I'm resetting all my settings and reinstalling the programs to check I have the latest (Pronterface was the wrong one well as Slic3r so getting there!). Looking back at the instructions these are much better now. Thanks Ian. Going through the Z plane levelling, my question is when it states note the z position: QuoteRaise Z by two or three mm, and move to X = 60, Y = 180. Repeat the procedure,by Treth - Ormerod
See my earlier posts. I believe Slic3r is wrongly inserting into the g-code G1 Z5 F5000 ; lift nozzle which is causing the problem. I manually commented this and the home out of the code and it appears to plot from my home settings, but it look as if it can just be deleted for future g-codebuilds? I still get problems with extruder feed 'reversing' and then there is no material to print! BUT Iby Treth - Ormerod
QuoteMoigy Hi Treth, I had the same issues with the prints not sticking. Found two causes - 1 - print head too high to start with. I now set by sliding a bit of paper under the print head, fine adjust in 0.1 steps, the paper should drag ever so slightly on the head. 2 - clean the Kapton tape after every print. I use paper tissue and RS solvent cleaner. Wipe dry after to ensure no residue. Haven'by Treth - Ormerod
@rayhicks, mine was from the SD card. Interesting differences in print quality, presumably this is related to the output printing rate being disturbed by the USB data transfer speed? Could also show that it is important to have a fast microSD card (but that may be a different issue!) I'll certainly will try the snowman again.by Treth - Ormerod
Unfortunately I have to stop now, but on my Windows 7 system I do not seem to be able to find QuoteOn Windows 7/8, the profiles are stored in folders under c:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Slic3r I have hidden folder set to visible, but still cannot find it. I'll try again later, but thanks Ian, I'm sure this will solve this issue.by Treth - Ormerod
Haven't had much time to progress, but on the printer settings you can disable the 'home' code or insert your own: I could not get the advanced mode to turn on. Also as a warning where you select the "G code flavor" the mouse wheel keeps this active and toggles through the options, i.e. you cant click to deactivate the selection, so if you twist the wheel even with the '...... flavor' off screby Treth - Ormerod
Quotemarkbee did you double ckeck you are really on COM6? Markus Yes this is the most likely issue. I found my PC moved the Ormerod around between Com3 and com5 apparently randomly, but I think it was after a reset or unplugging the Ormerod which will do this. There is a PC 'fix' that stops the PC reassigning com ports, but I need to search that out.by Treth - Ormerod
I posted this yesterday related to X,Y issues and homing, but this is a 'better place'! I to have the same issues regarding slic3r............ previous post: Further observations of the 'home' procedure and a problem I experienced. When I home X it homes reliably to the silver foil on the tab. When I home Y the plate stops with the extruder nozzle about 5mm or so off the plate edge. But to homby Treth - Ormerod
Further observations of the 'home' procedure and a problem I experienced. When I home X it homes reliably to the silver foil on the tab. When I home Y the plate stops with the extruder nozzle about 5mm or so off the plate edge. But to home Z, I then need to move X about +55mm to get the sensor centralised with the reflective film and then move Y 10mm to allow the sensor to be over the reflectivby Treth - Ormerod
Many post back I mentioned my Z-axis distance sensor readings. Just as an example and to help you visualise what to expect, I share my data over a 4.5mm range with my original build and also my current readings after adjusting the extrude nozzle to be lower in respect to the z-sensor face. Hope this may help in understanding choosing the values for the G31 Z1.4 P687 command (but with your valueby Treth - Ormerod
I successfully printed the snowman, but would like to understand some issues I observed. Pronterface showed an error for M27 as an invalid code. This did not affect anything and seems to be related to reading the SD card and I presume used for the %age complete? Also during z-height sensor calibration I would go through the sequence (captured from Pronterface): >>>G92 Z0 I set the zeby Treth - Ormerod
Hi Actiondrone, Sorry to hear of your problems. QuoteFrom pronterface I see the duet cant find the config.h file, but this file is good on sd card reading from pc windows. obviously without config.g I cant connect with web interface and only green light on the ethernet port blink. Hi and here is my first print on #007 today and also a snowman! All comments welcome. The main issue I had was getting the nozzle close to the print surface with a suitable clearance on the z-mount holder, but got there in the end!by Treth - Ormerod
Quotedroftarts You can use our Mendel Tricolour troubleshooting guide for many problems - it will form the basis of the Ormerod troubleshooting guide (which we're working on), as there will be a large crossover between the two. See specifically: Ian RepRapPro tech support Thanks Ian this is a good guide. I now have one successful print of a snowman (2d shape with thickness) which I assume lookby Treth - Ormerod
QuoteJamesR10 Thanks. That's interesting because on rs they have stated 500x460x410. So I'd need a little less space then. That's excellent news. I just measured mine (ignoring the power supply). Allowing for leads that come out of the sides, clips and the feed tube at the top, I make the enclosed size approx: width Y 470mm, depth X 420mm, height Z 480mm So RS figures give a bit of working sby Treth - Ormerod
QuoteWolf1130 Hello, my SD Card is empty. The linked drivers are not so good, of course windows 8.1 bring the message new keyboard/mouse found. Hi All, I have got there! I have set the Z sensor and home on all axis works. I have good temperature stability, but a 10C difference even when having stood unpowered for 12hours, but assume this is not 'too' important? My question now is the PLA is not sticking to the Kapton. Does this mean my nozzle clearance is too high (looks OK to an untrained eye!) or is there a special cleaning requireby Treth - Ormerod
Connection via a network lead is new area for me, however I have been doing a little exploring from Windows 7. From "Network Connections _> Local area Connection I find it reports the IP address as 169:254:100:212 and subnet mask as 255:255:0:0 Running diagnose eventually returns an error message "Local Area Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration" I have tried editing the entriesby Treth - Ormerod
Quotedroftarts Treth - The fan MUST BE RUNNING ALL THE TIME.It's vital for smooth running of the nozzle, as it isolates the heat in the nozzle. Without it, the filament will melt further up, the extrusion pressure will increase, and eventually block. The nozzle mount can melt, and molten filament get stuck in the end of the Bowden tube. Basically, a mess. However, you'll have to take the nozzle aby Treth - Ormerod
@rayhicks QuoteMy fan runs whenever 12V is supplied (not just during heating) - have you checked that the pins from the fan are fully inserted in the housing near the hot end? Yes you are right, the 0V pin would not latch in, so replaced crimp pin (last one, I think crimping these pins and sockets is going to be a major hurdle for the successful build and long term reliability for many printers)by Treth - Ormerod
Hi All, Thanks again for all your helpful advice and I'm making some progress (in the smaller and smaller time slots that are becoming available!) Using Pronterface I have been going through the setup procedures and all the commands behave as shown. My reading for the z probe height seem a bit different from those stated, but I'll check these later. The hot end fan on the extruder does not opeby Treth - Ormerod
Networking question. Just a thought we don't have to use a reversed connection network lead when plugging straight into a PC do we? I remember having to do this a good few years ago for a web-served monitoring instrument.by Treth - Ormerod
Thanks Ray. Regarding reflective foil, tape and sensor etc. @Ian, you say it did not perform well reflecting off the aluminium bed through the glass and hence the use of reflective tape which is on the ideal top surface, but do you need to cover it in Kapton tape, does that not degrade the reflective performance? A question: What is the homing sequence? Using Pronterface my system homes Y,by Treth - Ormerod
The monster lives! Now have x,y and z operational from Pronterface. Y and Z home also work, but X home doesn't tell the stepper motor to drive (but the step functions do!) But another step in the right direction....... Advice as mentioned on earlier post on Chrome/ network connection is still of interest. Hi All, Good detective work re component orientation, I have the same 'wrong' layout, so assume that's how they were all produced. The good news is I don't think there should be any damage as it means the feedback pin is floating (hence no output or wrong voltage) and one of the resistors is just across the 5V supply, so there should be no problem. I expect both will be replaced when repaired. Iby Treth - Ormerod

@Ian, Hi thanks for advice. I have installed Arduino software, downloaded the firmware, but get stuck at the next stage. In Windows 7 trying any command similar to: /usr/local/arduino-1.5.5/hardware/tools/bossac --port=ttyACM0 -U true -e -w -v -b RepRapFirmware.bin -R fails, I think predominantly because "Program Files (x8s)" has spaces. So I copied Bossac to a simple folder C:\Temp along witby Treth - Ormerod
Right I'm being a bit 'thick' today! I now have Pronterface for Windows installed thanks to DeuxVis. I have USB and a network lead connected. Two LEDS are illuminated on the board and also the network connector has a green led illuminated. The 12V supply is connected but switched off. I have the JP9 link inserted. Many thanks DeuxVis, have now downloaded from "http://kot.......", the RepRap link is still broken. Thanks for the "Repetier" link that looks useful.by Treth - Ormerod
Software clarification! Right I'm ready to switch on! To start I was just going to insert the micrSD card in the slot (I'll look at updateing later if problems). I understand that the firmware is ready to run on the Duet. What do I need on the PC? I followed a link to Pronterface but the download compiled for Windows zip option seemed to be broken.
