Well the general rule of thumb when using anything that gives off fumes is to ensure you use it in a well ventilated area. With that said, if we look at the two plastics mentioned: PLA It's a biodegradable polymer. From my personal experience, it's easy to work with as a beginner material, I've had no ill effects using it in my printer in the lounge room, and it gives off a smell, i can onlby Jaramaniac - General

Of Course! Bridging is essentially the print head, extruding plastic out into open air, from 1 point of built up plastic to the next. there are a lot of files available on thingiverse to help calibrate this for your printer. Example its a combination of getting the correct temperature for the plastic, so that it still extrudes nicely, but will cool shortly after being extruded to prevent it sby Jaramaniac - General
I Understand what you mean as far as more complicated shapes go, but I have to disagree with your statement that the hollow cube you propose would never work. It would most definitely work, this is the exact situation where "Bridging" come in. I know this works because I have been able to print 20mm hollow cubes as test prints with no issues. as far as making a part hollow to reduce plastic andby Jaramaniac - General
I remember seeing this model come and go through thingiverse, maybe someone can clarify this for me, but I thought Games Workshop actually got involved and asked 3dyeti to remove the model, due to it being an exact copy of one of their models.by Jaramaniac - Look what I made!
Hi Roger, no i didnt need any support for the ears as it does an entire layer at a time, it just gradually builds out further and further as it goes up.by Jaramaniac - Look what I made!

Another Awesome Print! I like it, and I definitely agree with your kids, I see the dinosaur skeleton thereby Jaramaniac - Look what I made!
I believe it should definitely be printable, if not stand alone, then with some support material that just breaks away. What format do you have it in at the moment? I have access to a few different programs, i might be able to convert a copy and try.by Jaramaniac - Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)

Alternatively, if you are just looking for a simple option, and are running windows, you could do what i did and download the latest Precompiled version from HERE! it is also linked to in the windows section of Kliment/Printrun's GitHub page This gives you a windows executable file, super easy to use. Also you can do the same thing with Slic3r, they also have a precompiled windows version, allby Jaramaniac - Reprappers
Thats a Pretty nice Yoda Nodeva! Your layer height is very specific, any particular reason you went to that many decimal places?by Jaramaniac - Competitions
Thats Impressive! Quite a unique Design you have there, is it based on any current designs, or is that your own. Also what material did you use?by Jaramaniac - Look what I made!
This is interesting to know as i was planning the same thing on my raspberry pi as well. I dont have anything super constructive to contribute yet, just wanted to post so i csn find this thread easily later :pby Jaramaniac - General
I agree with the kit process, having not long finished sourcing and assembling my Prusa Mendel, i have yo say thst i feel much more comfortable with the machine and that troubleshooting is easier as i am more aware of each parts function. I hadnt seen the ultimakers in action prior to this post though. Those things are crazy fastby Jaramaniac - General

UPDATE So I went hunting for some other posts that might help. Found: Printing Issues|Nozzle Dragging this mentions a couple of good things to check I am also trying switching to the latest release of Slic3r, and will upgrade my sprinter firmware if available. Hi Everyone I have been running prints off for about a week now, and have hit a snag. I seem to be able to handle smaller items, but larger items present a challenge. Firstly, it seems that I am feeding too much plastic, and it is building up on the first 3 solid layers. Secondly it is causing a fairly dramatic shift on the y axis Hopefully what i mean is visible in the photos. I have a Pruby Jaramaniac - Printing

Two main excerpts I pulled from the article cover: "You can make a receiver like Guslick's out of plastic because it houses only the basic mechanical parts of a firearm -- the trigger mechanism, the magazine, and other components. It's the barrel of a gun and/or the firing chamber, both of which you attach to the receiver, that must be strong enough to contain the heat and explosive pressure thaby Jaramaniac - General
