Cool, i'll try that. yup, PLA.by bryancostanich - Slic3r
Hm. i set them all explicitly to 0 and now it works. So it appears to be a Slic3r bug, in that if you leave them empty, it's fine, but as soon as you set them, you have to explicitly set them to 0 to reset back to default.by bryancostanich - Slic3r
was messing around with settings in Slic3r trying to tune some stuff, but now i'm getting this error when i try to export: But i've removed all the Acceleration settings: And what's stranger, is that i _think_ it occurred when i changed the "Bridge flow ratio," here, but then i reset it back to one and still getting the error: any idea what's causing this?by bryancostanich - Slic3r
Hey all! I'm trying to tune my reprap and i'm having problems with bridges and overhangs. see (note first image show the part upside down so you can see the overhang issues): I read in several calibration posts that i should be increasing my Bridge Feedrate Multiplier by 0.1 increments until i get bridging correct (i don't think that actually fixes overhangs though). And i can't seem to findby bryancostanich - Slic3r
Both screws are tensioned. If i don't, then the hobbled bolt grip is _extremely_ loose. Gears aren't particularly tight on each other. I've tried a ton of different 1.75 filament, all with more or less then same results. some i could get to work for a bit, others won't work for shit. I'm not sure I understand the last instructions. What's the point of that?by bryancostanich - Reprappers
@DaveS: I checked, there's nothing in there. it's clean. @Droftarts: it's assembled correctly. see the images below. Here's the deal, I pop the gear in, load a piece of filament, it catches and feeds just fine. moderate grip. but as i turn it, i can actually pull the hobbed gear assembly out of the top. this is what's happening when it runs. it works for just a bit, then the damn thing works itsby bryancostanich - Reprappers
The problem is that the gear w/hobbed bolt slowly works its way up, so that at some point, the hobbed bits are not in contact with the filament. i tightened the bolts on the side and that had no effect. i think i have my printer limping along right now, i'm going to try and print out a new extruder piece. i think it could have just been a poorly printed piece. we'll see. truthfully, i don't thinby bryancostanich - Reprappers
Do you guys hate that extruder design that much?by bryancostanich - Mechanics
That's how i had it in the beginning. same effect. actually, it was even worse. adding the washers was the only way i could get it to work even remotely reliably. worked on natural colored 1.75 PLA. today i put some black through it and it didn't work at all. and no, the washers don't lock the hobbed bolt against the bearing. the washers only touch the inside portion of the bearing. it spins freby bryancostanich - Reprappers
Here are a couple shots of the gear. I wonder if the teeth bits on the metal piece are just not big/sharp enough? note that there are extra washers in there as spacers, to force the gear further down, because it seemed like it was in the wrong place (works about the same either way - which is to say, it doesn't work worth shit).by bryancostanich - Reprappers
that's the one. "bin it?"by bryancostanich - Mechanics
Hey all! i built a reprappro mono mendel, but the extruder gear keeps popping out when i'm running it. i've tried tightening the bolts to keep pressure on the filament in there too, still no good. i actually think it's kind of a crappy design. is there a list some place of other options for the extruder feeding setup? i found lots of designs for the hot end, but not the feeder part. thanks!by bryancostanich - Reprappers

So that was it. i picked up a PC power supply, did the conversion on it, and now i'm using it for the reprap and it's working great. that OEM power supply is a cheap piece of garbage.by bryancostanich - Reprappers
It was the crappy OEM power supply that came with the hardware kit.by bryancostanich - Reprappers
Hey all, i built a reprap mono this week, and today i was commissioning it. had a few software hiccups, but finally got through them. got all the way to the part where i was to warm the bed. i set it to 45 and off it went. the power supply made a weird noise for a moment and then *pop* a little blue flash within it and it stopped working. now here's the deal - i DOUBLE and in some cases TRIPLEby bryancostanich - Reprappers
Ok, i found a reliable workaround. If i connect to the TTY interface, as opposed to the CU interface (as it says in the wiki), when it starts acting up, i can click disconnect and immediately reconnect and it works. if i try the CU interface, the disconnect/reconnect trick doesn't work so well because it often won't reconnect and i have to restart the app.by bryancostanich - Reprappers
Ok, i think it's a software issue. when it stops working, if i hit 'Disconnect," wait a few seconds, and then reconnect, it responds for a little while longer.by bryancostanich - Reprappers
More info: i suspect that my power supply might be faulty. i can move the thing for a bit, and then my power supply gets noticeably louder, as if it's taking more load, then things no longer work.by bryancostanich - Reprappers
GAH! i _thought_ i solved this. the pronterface downloaded from the reprap site works for a little longer. but then it fails just as with the github one. not sure why that would be. i suspect it's quietly disconnecting.by bryancostanich - Reprappers
Hey all, I just finished building a Mono Mendel. All the wiring checked out, i double checked the readings on everything. I'm now on the commissioning stage, and something is strange. If i reset my menzi, I can send movement commands (e.g. G1 Y10 F500) to it and they work for about the first ten seconds, and then it starts responding, as in, it will ignore my commands. I thought maybe the poweby bryancostanich - Reprappers
Hey all, i'm running a macbook pro retina, and when i try and use pronterface, i'm missing the GET POS button. I've tried both the version i got from the github link: and the precompiled binary linked from the reprappro docs: i can connect just fine and get the temp though. this is the first time i've ever installed this app on this machine. in the instructions it says to delete the ".pronsoby bryancostanich - Reprappers
never mind, i snipped a bit of the black heat shrink tubing and it worked just fine. the little piece of clear heat shrink stuff that was in the kit (and it said use the clear piece) wasn't worth a shit. the black stuff worked great. to be clear, i wasn't using the long piece of hard PTFE.by bryancostanich - Reprappers
sorry, not the PTFE. i tried the little piece of heat shrink tubing. it only shrunk a fractional amount.by bryancostanich - Reprappers
I've tried to shrink the heat shrink with a heavy duty heat gun and a lighter. neither one do anything other than turn it clear. it's got to fit into the heater block. i think that any insulation needs to do two things: 1) prevent shorting the leads with the metal block 2) provide thermal conductivity to the thermistor i think that kapton would suffice for both of these. thoughts? *EDIT: iby bryancostanich - Reprappers
