I believe all you need to do is reverse the direction in which the X carriage travels and connect your end stop on the other side (where the z motor is located). Don't believe there is a need for any modification to the firmware.by pdf417 - General
I've done exactly that.... Stuck an old iron under my print bed See my blog for details and issues I've encountered (http://pdf417.blogspot.com) The main issues with using an iron are: [1] You'll have a massive hotspot in the middle, however if you concentrate your build within the hotspot, you'll be Ok. [2] You need a thick (>2mm) aluminium or steel bed to diffuse as much heat as possible. [3by pdf417 - General
Techzone replied to my e-mail, but they said I have to wait till mid next week cos the guy that can help me is at an exhibition. I can wait till then. Its not a matter of life or death, but I'm eager to get this printer working. I decided to take matters into my own hands and build a heater controller that is independent of Techzone electronics. I'm surprised you're having communication problems with Techzone. Although I'm still having trouble getting my extruder board to work properly, they were always very responsive (replied within a day or two). I agree with SebastienBailard in that they are more like web 1.0 but hey, so is RepRap as its far from reliable at this point and there a lot of work needed (Eg. improvements on the software)by pdf417 - Reprappers
Thanks Anthong Redbeard, I'll be looking forward to your comments. I gave it another go this morning, but this time the heater simply stayed on all the time charring the heater wires at contact point with Nichrome wire. This erratic behaviour must be a dry joint on the board but I can't identify where. Regards Pby pdf417 - Reprappers
I'm sure others have a working techzone board and I don't believe its the design of the board that's faulty. But I do believe the particular board I own is faulty. Possibly a dry joint or something due to the erratic behaviour. Anyone willing to swap a good Techzone extruder board for my faulty one Regards Pby pdf417 - Reprappers
I gave it another go using the same GCode as before and it worked we and got past the 10 layers. However it still failed! This time at layer 39 (one third through the build. No clue what's going on but I'm suspecting its an issue with the extruder controller board from Techzone. I'm on my 3rd board and its still failing to complete a print. Very frustrating! I'm thinking of swiching to a differenby pdf417 - Reprappers
Hi Jkelso, Sorry didn't know that... I would have directed you to the blog earlier. In any case if you need any help please feel free to PM me or post a comment on my blog. I'm no expert by I'll do my best, although I'm having problems of my own! (see forum http://forums.reprap.org/read.php?4,60590) Solder blobs is the same issue I had and Kimberly is the right person to contact. I'm guessing tby pdf417 - Reprappers
Firstly, why do you have a 10 way ribbon cable from the mother board to the extruder controller. My techzone electronics only needed 2 sets of 2 wires. Take a look at the bottom image in . As you can see on the left is the main-board with 2 blue connectors on it's left side passing from underneath the boards and going to the extruder controller at the centre (blue connector) and on the top rightby pdf417 - Reprappers
I'm using the Java software that's available for download from to generate the GCode. The STL files where created in OpenSCAD then converted to a Binary STL using NetFabb Studio (free version) Will be trying out a smaller build today to test if the same happens around the same layer or at a later stage. Thanks again Regards Pby pdf417 - Reprappers
There is actually only 1 mention of M109 and it goes like this "M109 S240.0 ;set temperature and wait" Should this be in other locations as well.... I mean in between layers for example? Thanks again Regards Pby pdf417 - Reprappers
Had a quick look at the GCode and can't see anything wrong there. It all looks looks the following in between layers from the beginning till around layer 15 ( I didn't go any further than that and the print stopped at layer 8 and 10 in my print runs)..... Is this code correct? Should T0 be at every layer? G1 X69.4 Y64.3 E8343.1 F1500.0 ;horizontal move (This is the last command of the previous lby pdf417 - Reprappers
Thanks for your replies, The MOSFET is just slightly warm, so not even hot. I'll check the GCode tonight.... what should I be looking out for? As I said, its quite a big build and the file is 8Mb in size so it will take me all night to check every line, one by one. Thanks again Regards Pby pdf417 - Reprappers
Hi All, I have finally finished my RepRap Mendel including a heated bed which is working very well when printing the first couple of layers. (see for further details on the heated bed). The problem occurs around the 8th to 10th layer where the extruder heater simply switches off. Everything keeps working.... all axis keep following the correct path, the extruder motor keeps turning back and foby pdf417 - Reprappers
Thanks for all your suggestions. I now managed to get a print (if only partial) by mounting a pre-heated acrylic bed. By preheated I mean literally pre-heated by sticking it in the oven at 150C for 30 minutes. see my blog for further details (http://pdf417.blogspot.com/) Regards Pby pdf417 - Reprappers
Hi Sebastien, No not yet. I'm starting my second year in 4 weeks time as I'm a part-time student. Any cool suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I need to pick a topic by end of this year. Mendel build not going too well though see my blogby pdf417 - Reprappers
Brill, Thanks for the info. I will try these tonight and let you know. Regards Pby pdf417 - Reprappers
Hi, Building a Mendel in preparation for my dissertation (MSc Robotics) which is due next year. Meanwhile I plan to print preliminary prototype designs for products the the company I work for manufacture.by pdf417 - Reprappers
Hi all, I have just finished building a Mendel and all works fine (with the exception of a minor glitch see ). The problem now is that when the Mendel starts printing, the plastic doesn't stick to the bed. I've tried different materials as a bed surface glass, acrylic, wood, laminated wood and masking tape but all give the same result. The material is 3mm round ABS and the extruder temperatureby pdf417 - Reprappers
