Thanks. I looked on amazon and the only thing anyone has is 8mm pitch. I believe that's too aggressive for a z axis.by Embed - Reprappers
I'm using 5/16 threaded rod now. I'm trying to get a little more precision and a better way to mount it with the brass nuts. I looked on the us amazon site but it seems they leave something out of the description every time. They either leave out whether its a multistart or i have seen a lot leave out the pitch all together. So you don't really know what you're getting.by Embed - Reprappers
Does anyone know a source for 8mm 1mm pitch single start leadscrews and nuts in the US ? I've looked all over the net .by Embed - Reprappers
Has anyone used both ? 2 level belts would be a lot easier to implement . Another thing , looking at the picture I attached from fabtotum dot com , it looks like all 4 belts are attached to the hotend carriage and not one side passing through. Is that correct? This is on the 2 level design they have.by Embed - CoreXY Machines
I don't order anything starting with " Ali" . Aliexpress, Alibabble, Aliwhoknows etc. Or ANYTHING from China. I learned my lesson the hard way yearssss ago. Now I do use China made parts sometimes, but I do not order them from China, I order them from another vendor .by Embed - General
I'm glad someone can get thingiverse to work. The way they have everything on one page when you're browing just boggs my computer down. That's with a 4ghz proccessor , 8 gigs of ram a 2 gig video card and a 65 meg internet connection. As far as IE, I haven't used that in years. Like vreihen said. If I do a format I only use IE long enough to get Firefox downloaded. Then install adblock plus.by Embed - Reprappers
Halloween is coming up and this is the type of things I built a printer for lol I haven't made anything for halloween yet so I'm asking what materials and colors has everybody used and had success with? I know orange and black are common but was wanting to experiment with clear or translucent materials. Which one is better for led projects maybe? Also these may be outside so I'm not sure about PLby Embed - General
Yeah I think I have that problem too. I have 2 motors lifting the bed and it seems to get off. I'm going to redesign that and use 2 motors with a central belt or something. Maybe I can put a gt2 pulley on the bottom of the z axis on both sides and connect them together with a belt. Then it wouldn't have no choice but to turn the same amount . Right now I'm trying to deal with this hotend draggingby Embed - Reprappers
Thanks dentist. That number calculator I was talking about is here calculator It's down some on the page under "Optimal layer height for your Z axis "by Embed - Reprappers
Ok. In the steps per mm part in the config file. Do I go up or down with that number to lower the amout that's extruded? My thinking is I go up with it for less? I did have time to learn some things about the filement I'm using. I started it at 230c now I'm up to 260c and it's bonding a lot better. I guess the cheaper the filement the hotter it needs to be. Also theres a write up on the wiki abouby Embed - Reprappers
I have checked the filament probably 5 or 6 times and it always comes out 1.74, 1.75 and 1.76. I have it set in Cura at 1.75. Maybe I need to change the settings in the config file somewhere.by Embed - Reprappers
Sorry for the late reply. It's hard to get off work long enough to work on it. Thanks everybody for the help. Each step get's it better. I have a couple more questions. Dentist, I set the junction deviation to 0.02 and I swear it seems to have got faster instead of slower. Will different parts change direction at different speed depending on the slicer or something? I'm also having a problem withby Embed - Reprappers
Ok, I finaly got time to go get another micro sd card. For some reason that fixed the extruder not working. I get a timeout from the board every once in a while , but I think that's just a setting or something simple.I got it to print a test cube 12mm ! It's all warp sided, stringy and a long way from actualy being a cube, but it's a start. Now that I'm finaly able to test the printing part, I haby Embed - Reprappers
Ok, that means theres something wrong with the board then . i've tried all of those. I will pick up another sd card in a bit and re flash it with firmware like you said earlier but I dont see that helping as I dont see a problem with it finding the card or files on the card. I did notice that just pressing the reset switch is a big no no as for as resetting. You have to pull the usb cable if youby Embed - Reprappers
Dougal, where's the firmware tab in cura? Traumflug, every software I've tried doesn't have an option for smoothieboard. I don't know how I'm supossed to chose it if theres no option.by Embed - Reprappers
Iv tried everything to get this smoothieboard to work. Reversing wires on steppers, changing config files, modifying gcode itself, wiggling the antenna on my truck etc etc. I'm going to try 1 more thing before it goes on the junk shelf. In most programs ( I've downloaded about 16 million of these it seems to get this to work ) it ask you what firmware type or what machine type it is. None of themby Embed - Reprappers
I think because my z steppers, I have 2 , is on the bottom side of my printer and my bed raises up is the problem. That's backwards from most of the printers out. But there is no machine in setup like mine in Cura.by Embed - Reprappers
The extruder works fine in pronterface, so I know it's not the stepper. The temp is reading 235c in cura.by Embed - Reprappers
Ok that makes sense. I'm finding out now the dumbest part of this whole build is the software. I got the motors to turn correct, now I can't get the extruder to turn while trying a test print in cura. I downloaded slicer or whatever it's called and I dont see a print button nowhere. I guess it only .... I have no idea. I was able to resize a test cube in slicer.... Is cura the only software thatby Embed - Reprappers
When I got my printer mostly built and all the steppers hooked up I used pronterface to test them. When I pushed the up button in pronterface for the z steppers, they went down, so I inverted the pins in the config by adding " ! " . That fixed the direction .I'm using a smoothieboard by the way. I got ready to test everything to see how I need to set up the machine and used the cura that came witby Embed - Reprappers
I'm fixing to start testing a printer I've been working on for months from scratch. I haven't had a lot of trouble finding info on where I got stuck most of the time except now. How do I tell the printer, software, driver board or whatever where the bed is located? This hasn't been talked about nowhere. I looked through a couple of programs, cura and such and still don't see anywhere it says to tby Embed - Reprappers
Your worst nightmare. 3D printing software comes with windows 10. I've been beta testing it for a year and a half now. It's called 3D Builder under the apps. I would screen shot it if they allowed that here.by Embed - Reprappers
Has anyone used 303 stainless for linear rod? Like this rods Is a 10 RMS finish good?by Embed - Reprappers
Every design I've seen moves the head up and down in the z axis instead of the bed moving up and down. Why is this? Don't moving the bed in the Y axis take off a lot of build area? The hotend, extruder and electronics is smaller than the bed so wouldn't it give bigger build area to move it in the Y axis instead? Or am I missing something here ?by Embed - Reprappers
Has anyone used PrintinZ.com filament before? They're advertising 3lbs of black abs for $19 with shipping.by Embed - Reprappers
I'm a noob too, but think that looks better than the layer lines in all prints...by Embed - Reprappers
Ok, thanks for the replies. After seeing this and looking more on the net , think I'll stay away from maker slide right now. I'm probably going to have to come up with some other solution because there are no linear bearing or slide rail dealers in the states except for professional. And I just don't do ebay, china. ali anything. Learned my lesson the hard way on those.by Embed - Reprappers
Does anyone have any experience with these slides? How much runout or bow do they have per foot? I know regular extrusion has up to 0.025 -in runout. 0.635mm. It's been asked in several forums but noone ever got a straight answer.by Embed - Reprappers
I'm planning on milling only small acrylic and pcb boards, not metal.by Embed - Reprappers
Finaly got time to order parts and odered a smoothie and megatronics. So my next step was guide rails and then motors. After looking I see everyone using 8mm rails. I'm planning on using this as double duty, a 3d printer and a cnc machine. The 8mm rods are very small. If I go up to 12mm do you think the mass would be too high to move with nema 17 motors?
