I've done the Ponoko extruder, but not the full repstrap. The 4.5mm is supposed to be interchangeable with the 5mm, so that shouldn't be a problem (it worked fine on the extruder). The 9mm is MDF (medium density fiberboard, read wood). That's the bottom plate for it. They offer acrylic, mdf, and other materials. If you're at all handy with wood, this would be a good opportunity for savings iby Randyy - Reprappers
Yes, it will be twice as slow (assuming you take the same step speed, which is likely). To see the difference, imagine there are two coils, one pushing and pulling in the x direction, one in the y. For full stepping, one would pull Y, then pull X, then push Y, then Push x, before repeating the cycle. The internals of the motor would make one revolution (which would rotate the spline a smallerby Randyy - Controllers
That StepGenie seems promising. I just ordered a few (with Hexfets). Question, did you etch a PCB, wirewrap, or buy the demo board? If you etched a board, do you have the masks that you can upload? No use reinventing the wheel and I didn't want to pay $75 for the boards...by Randyy - Controllers
I'm in the process of building one now with Brian's part. I should have a firm answer for you by the weekend, but for now, I can say that (just holding it together) the heater element, thermal break, and nozzle appear to work. The extruder screw and bearings will not. The Ponoko extruder relies on an m8 stud for driving, the m5(?) that Brian supplies will be too sloppy. Likewise, Ponoko usesby Randyy - For Sale
Brendan, Have you thought about having the ATMega drive multiple motors? If it were possible, the logic could all be passed to a single controller, possibly making the design cost about the same as the rrrf controller? Just a thought from an amateur. Randyby Randyy - Controllers

Annirak, I'm new here, but I'd like to encourage you to continue your research on this. Like you, I'm interested in this project because of all of the *possibilities* it could have in revolutionizing everything we all do. And for me, that includes SMT. I'd love to see DIY Laser cutters, SMTs, pick & place, CNC, etc. I may only build an extruder, but I'd love to *be able to* build other hby Randyy - Controllers
That helps a lot. It is NEMA23, with more rated torque than the Darwin steppers, so I'm sure it'll have plenty of room to spare. I'll use half coil like you recommend and adjust the pot for minimum current. Thanks again. Randyby Randyy - Controllers
Thanks Nophead. Looking closer at this stepper, it's rated at 3.6v at 2.4a . Does it look like I'll burn it up because of the voltage problem? If not, it looks like I'll need to use the high torque/low speed option. Does this sound right? I don't really know too much about stepper's so I'm in new territory. Thanks againby Randyy - Controllers
Hi All, I have a question about the Stepper Driver 1.2 and different steppers. Since Zach and his supplier are out of the recommended stepper, I have been looking for others. I found a six wire, but can't figure out how to make it work (the board only has four connections). Does anyone know how to wire up a six wire to the controller board? My board appears to be working fine (flashing the oby Randyy - Controllers
Hi all, Sorry for such basic questions. I have BASIC electronics / microcontroller experience. I've recently built some of my repstrap electronics and am getting ready to start integrating it. I've completed a Sanguino, with the breakout board. After carefully checking it for solder bridges and opens, I took the plunge, plugging it into my USB (Mac OSX). The power light was steady and it blby Randyy - RepRap Host
Not to hijack the thread, (Congrats so far, Mikefazz), but can someone explain "backlash"? I don't understand. Thanks.by Randyy - Reprappers
