I am gathering bits for a heated bed as you describe, I will use a dibond sheet and fasten Nichrome wire underneath. On top i have got hold of a sheet of glass from an oven door. The question i have is the thickness of the nichrome wire, I have some that is 0.8mm thick, as it appears the thinner the wire the better it would work. Is this the case or am I totally stupid and should get thicker wireby jtribe - General
I used a hotglue gun and they seem solid still, sadly i cant remember what glue it is as I bought it in germany years ago.by jtribe - Reprappers
I did look, but for some reason seemed to think the modelfixings was cheaper, Old age is addling my brain I suppose and being Welsh im as tight as a ducks down feathers on silly things ;-)by jtribe - Reprappers
Small issue I came across was finding a few M3 taps at a reasonable price, most are about £6 each. Anyhow i got a set of 3 from modelfixings.co.uk for less than £9 with postage, I bought the M3.5 tap set after reading Nopheads blog on hobbing a bolt. Hope to get them done this weekend.by jtribe - Reprappers
I too could not find the electronic set I wanted from a UK supplier so got the ramps 1.3 from in Holand. It took 5 days to arrive and seems fine, all clearly labeled parts. Perhaps there is a market for a UK supply group?by jtribe - Reprappers
Items I overlooked are the heating elements for the hot end, and a power supply? have you got those covered yet?by jtribe - Reprappers
I decided upon the ramps 1.3 kit as I have not really soldered before, or had any experirence of electronics. So far so good(fingers crossed) I started of puting the Polou stepper kits together, and I am over half way on the main PCB. It is not as bad as I thought and the instuctions on the wiki are pretty straight forward. there are pre-made kits but it takes the fun/frustration away, good luckby jtribe - Reprappers
I am looking at the hobbed bolt area myself and had a thought about using a knurling machine, sadly I dont know anyone with one. What I have come across is Knurled locking nuts, they are 5-6mm wide and could potentially do the job if some adjustment where made to the mounting? Since tests have been done is it worth trying this method out or stick with a tried and tested hobbed bolt? EDIt not suby jtribe - Plastic Extruder Working Group
