Quotecozmicray but without USB connection --- how will you control printer? Yeah, part of the puzzle is missing. What do folks normally do when the USB host is unable to supply sufficient power to the Arduino, LCD, LED's etc?by ajm1 - RAMPS Electronics
I'd like to power my Ramps 1.4/Ardunio Mega from the +5V standby feed (VCC pin on Ramps) from an ATX supply rather than USB. Is there a way to disable the board from drawing power from the USB bus? Is it safe for USB power and 5V standby to be connected and powered at the same time?by ajm1 - RAMPS Electronics
Yes, yes I do need the "s" thank you.by ajm1 - RAMPS Electronics
Planning to add extruder and stepper driver cooling fans that I want to control via Aux-2, outputs D40, D42, D44 etc. I am testing control of those outputs via pronterface and trying the commands: M42 P40 255 M42 P40 0 etc, but so far am unable to control the state of those pins. I suspect that I need to tell the marlin firmware to configure those pins as outputs, or to allow control via M42by ajm1 - RAMPS Electronics
Yes, adding a fan(s) helped me, as did hairspray! I also rotate the models in slicers to get problem corners closer to the fans.by ajm1 - General
A good source for low MOQ M3, 4 etc hardware in Edmonton is Edmonton Nut and Bolt. They also have reasonable priced threaded rod in various grades/materials. Address: 8635 63 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 0E8, Canada Phone:+1 780-465-1466by ajm1 - General
I notice that you're slicing in what I call pronterface. I had experinced some problems with slilcing in pronterface, so I started using Slic3r directly with better results - could have just been me however. Also, trust me, clean the teeth. I saw the same behavior as you - related to speed of extrustion???? Also have you calibrated the printer? extruding directly from Pronterface seems diffeby ajm1 - General Mendel Topics
I think that you're saying that the extruder motor is turning, but little to no filiment comes out, or when it does it's in blobs, correct? Does your extruder use teeth to drive the filiment into the hotend? Check the groves between the teeth of the drive wheel. I had a similar problem, and the root cause was the grooves between the teeth of the drive were jammed with PLA. I used the tip of aby ajm1 - General Mendel Topics
Yes, the steps have been changed, remember this is a diff, lines prefixed with (-) are removed and lines prefixed with (+) are added. From: #define DEFAULT_AXIS_STEPS_PER_UNIT {78.7402,78.7402,200.0*8/3,760*1.1} To: #define DEFAULT_AXIS_STEPS_PER_UNIT {80,80,4000,237}by ajm1 - Reprappers

Perhaps I had a similar problem. My Z axis movement problem was similar to yours but was also accompanied by loud noise from the motors. In the Marlin firmware I needed to change the Z feedrate to 3 #define DEFAULT_MAX_FEEDRATE {500, 500, 3, 25} // (mm/sec)by ajm1 - General
