i'm not sure what that is...by mlagana - Reprappers
So i'm making my reprap with makerbots pre-assembled gen3 electronics. i don't know much about electronics in general, I have already tried a motor from ozxmods.com.au and it won't start up when i hook it up to the driver. I tried hooking the colours up as according to the wiki instructions then later realised that the wiring of the ozxmods were different (they use the same 4 colours but in a diby mlagana - Reprappers
maybe the motors out of old printers would be better?by mlagana - Reprappers
hmmm interesting idea. Although i am more keen to get printing than experiment with anything else at the moment. here is a scan of one single negative i cut from sherlock holmes: you can see on the right inbetween the sprocket holes there is a DOLBY logo, which is actually a signal that is read i think with infra red. maybe that could be used?by mlagana - Reprappers
thanks! no the film is just scrap film that comes on either end of anything we receive; ads, trailers and spools from films. i probably have some plain film with no writing in the frames if that's what you mean? at work we put little magnetic tape on the film and the projector has a sensor which reads it and sends a que to the automation, i.e lights down, lens change, sound change etc. maybe thaby mlagana - Reprappers
film doesn't stretch much unless you apply alot of force, still pretty strong stuff. I'm a casual projectionist so we get heaps of scrap film, the gears are resin casts of an intermittent roller, a spare we had (from the head of a projector)by mlagana - Reprappers
wow i just realised that bit of film actually says printer on it!!!by mlagana - Reprappers

the silicone mould doesn't have to be tough it can be soft and easily slip out of the tight bits like the thread, i imagine you could take the casts out of the moulds with relative ease. Someone mail me the tricky bits (australia) and i will attempt it!!by mlagana - Casting and Moldmaking Working Group
if you cast the piece with the hex nut in it, the silicone would flow into the thread, then when you cast it there would be no need to put a hex nut in you could screw directly into the resin. once at my work we were unable to find replacements of these strange metal nuts, so eventually i just cast them in resin with a silicone mould and they have worked fine so far. pretty light application thby mlagana - Casting and Moldmaking Working Group

cool i will go with m6. thankyou all for your helpby mlagana - Mechanics
actually i am going to go ahead with the threaded drive... in the past i constructed one for manually controlled stop-motion camera moves,if i go this way after i have printed mendel parts i can't make, i can use the cartesian bot as a motion control system with openMoco (i'm an animator) so if i make it with m5 thread, with a pitch of .8mm, does that mean my 3d designs would come out larger? Oby mlagana - Mechanics
hmm Ok thanks guys. I will abandon the threaded drive, i assumed using a belt was just to save space, didn't think about speed. Time to learn about belts! thanks againby mlagana - Mechanics
Hi, i'm making a repstrap with threaded drives and am having trouble figuring out what size thread i should use. I remember reading about .5mm accuracy, does this mean i should go with M3?by mlagana - Mechanics
mmm. but if i had a printer or two i could cast the whole set minus the tricky ones, and have a whole set done pretty quick. I'm going to experiment with it anyways.by mlagana - For Sale
i haven't had a close look at all the mendel parts.. but here is something i just cast in resin (a part for a kick drum) this was just a 1 part mould (pictured mould is inside out). maybe the majority of the parts could be done in resin that would save alot of time for the trickier ones to be printed outby mlagana - For Sale
what if i made a silicone mould of all the mendel parts and cast them in resin? I could cast full sets in ten minutesby mlagana - For Sale
you can put me down for two kits.by mlagana - Australia, Sydney RUG
i've been drooling over the mendal for a while as i'm a stopmotion animator... finally starting sourcing out all the materials. I am good at mould making/casting and was thinking If i can get my hands on the parts I could easily make silicone moulds and re-cast them in resin... using this method I could produce sets of parts every 10 minutes. and that's assuming resin would be a suitable materby mlagana - Australia, Sydney RUG
