Hi Everyone Thanks for your comments and feedback. I don't think there is sufficient interest for the publisher, but I would still like to go ahead anyway. My current idea is to create an eBook which would be supported by donations, and a hardcopy available on a site such as Lulu.com. It would be published under the Creative Commons License. The next problem is finding time to write it withoby geoffd - General
Hi Brupje It would bring sections of the wiki, plus info from other places on the web into one place. It would be available as an eBook and as a hardcopy. You would have to pay for either/both, but the publisher is aware that RepRap is an open source project so price is an issue. Cheers Geoffby geoffd - General
Hi All, I am thinking of writing a book on the basics of building and using a RepRap machine. It would cover the mechanics, electronics, updating firmware, calibration etc. There would also be some chapters on designing using tools like OpenScad and one or two 3d design tools, and chapters on the host software and using Skeinforge. IE A beginners guide to RepRap. I have found a publisher whby geoffd - General
This thread is also a good intro to setting up SF40 feed rae etc.by geoffd - Skeinforge
I was not suggesting that it be used for production, just to eliminate one complex variable to see if the setup works, or crashes, when fed commands directly. I've never found a problem with it for simple commands to test out the setup, drive then head so I can set platform height etc. I had to use it originally because like Ostowe, ReplicatorG and Repsnapper would not talk to my GEN6 electroby geoffd - Controllers
I have on old iTouch without a camera... Time for an upgrade!by geoffd - General
Hi Ostowe Have you tried driving the boiard using either the Arduino Serial Monitor, or a terminal program? Try doing things like: G1 X10 To see if the head moves then M104 S190 This should switch the heater on Then doing M105 Will return the current extruder and platform temperatures Doing M105 once every 10 seconds or so will show you if the extruder is getting hot. The Mendel-parts.com head uses a 4R7 7W resistor and I happily melt ABS at 230 degrees C. How is the resistor mounted? I have mine through the hole in the block and held in with fire cement. Geoffby geoffd - General
I am just in the process of building a Prusa-Mendel. Printed parts off ebay from Nophead. Hardware kit from ThingFarm.org Gen6 and v5 Hot end from Mendel-parts. Following Gary's visual instructions made the whole thing easy to put together. Go for the Prusa. Cheers Geoffby geoffd - Reprappers
Hi Gary Thank you. I built my Prusa using your guide and it made the whole process very easy. Brill. Cheers Geoffby geoffd - General
I had the same problem with the steppers and optos, so I swapped wires etc. then download the very latest firmware off mendel-parts.com and found that they were fixed in software already, so I swapped them back again. Cheers Geoffby geoffd - Reprappers
So do I, but I actually live in France.by geoffd - United Kingdom RepRap User Group
Hi I have just started to gather parts for mine. I brought printed Prusa Mendel parts from nophead on eBay, and a complete Prusa hardware kit from Thingfarm.com. I can build electronics etc. but think I can get going faster by buying pre-built electronics etc. and I am going to buy the GEN6 board, stepper motors and hot end from Mendel-parts.com just as soon as he reopens his web shop, probabby geoffd - United Kingdom RepRap User Group
Hi I have checked out all the code from the Subversion repository, installed java3d etc, but whenever I try to run the application I get the following error: Exception in thread "J3D-Renderer-1" java.lang.NoSuchFieldError: maxTextureUnits at javax.media.j3d.Canvas3D.createNewContext(Native Method) at javax.media.j3d.Canvas3D.createNewContext(Unknown Source) at javax.media.j3d.Renderer.doWorkby geoffd - General
