Yes, that would be a good way to cut printing time. You may need to widen the bay area a bit to allow the x carriage room to fully print. But that is just a case of making the threaded rods longer. Also, the top vertexes and Z motor mounts could have half circles each to clamp onto the top of the Z smooth rod. That would remove 2 bar clamps from the print too.by MrJohn - General Mendel Topics
I have an aluminum bed with the cut away square. This there a way to order my extruder to go over that area and dump some plastic, then scrape itself on the edge before printing? Keep in mind I don't know how to write gcode.by MrJohn - General
I have fixed this same issue on my bot. (Gen6 as well) It's not the Z speed, or Jitter, or Lash. It's CLIP! Activate Clip and start witht the default 0.50 clip and increase untill the blob is gone. Got my major blob to go away around 0.56 clip. Here's a video of my issue-Corner Blob Now that same print goes counter-clockwise until the layer is done and goes up quickly with no blob. After building the Prusa Mendel I do find it easier than the Sells. I have one major issue that has caused me some pain. The orientation of the smooth rod groove mount walls on the x idler and motor ends. They are currently designed to have the smooth rod on the outside of the 3 walls that the bushings are placed in. This is done with glue or epoxy. The problem is that when trying to tighten orby MrJohn - General Mendel Topics
I got my second set of parts from botmill today. They are much better and I can see any problems with them. They are perfectly clean and definitely no sanding or drilling will be needed. Good job botmill! I'll update if something pops up.by MrJohn - General
My breakdown. This might help. Might be incomplete.by MrJohn - General
Update March 17: Gil has contacted me and is trying to make things right. Botmill, I know you are watching this thread. Yes I am GeoDroidJohn from youtube. That is no secret. I am one of several disappointed customers you have. I post here, on youtube and in the IRC. It's not hard finding others that feel scammed by your products. How is it that you have no positive or negative reviews of yourby MrJohn - General
According to Gil's facebook they test the Gliders before shipping.by MrJohn - General
I've sent a few more e-mails to both Fred and Gil. Nothing back from Gil but Fred sent this- " My understanding is that they changed a supplier that provided us with some below par pieces and now they are waiting on a shipment from a new supplier. Unfortunately it looks like it will take a few more days. I hope you understand and be patient about it. If by any chance you cannot wait for few moreby MrJohn - General
I just weighed my fully assembled axis kit with power supply, hot bed, 1lb of plastic filament. It came in at 19.6 lbs. Keep in mind this does not included packing material and the extra nuts an bolts left over after the build. I posted a video on my youtube channel. Here, should be up in a few minutes.by MrJohn - General

The tools are a joke, they are cheap. The allen keys are in SAE not metric. The pliers, needle nose and dikes bend easily under any load. If you thought the kit includes EVERYTHING needed, you are going to be disappointed.by MrJohn - General
The axis kit I got weighed 23 lbs.by MrJohn - General
I've attached a screen capture of a charge-back form to force a refund from botmill.com I will send this through if I don't get a shipping tracking number by tomorrow evening. The box that arrives better contain a full set of working parts or I will submit the charge-back. I will send an e-mail to botmill before I do so giving them one last chance and informing them of my intent to do a charge-by MrJohn - General
Must I drill a hole or pit for the thermistor or can I just tape it to the block with krypton tape?by MrJohn - General
I'm glad you've had a good experience with them. It's very frustrating getting a "full kit, everything you need to print" kit that costs over $1000 and a week and a half later I am no better of than the day I opened the first box. I have a mocked up sells mendel that can't print because so many things are missing, broken, warped, or not drilled correctly. Mark Shulzt Wrote: ---------------------by MrJohn - General

Yeah, the pieces I recieved are pretty messy. I don't have that groove on mine. I had to dremel it out and place a M4x20 bolt there. I was reading the wiki on how to build the hot end and it calls for 2 M3 threaded rods, one is 92mm and the other is 58mm. I have two threaded rods but they are M4. They fit the holes and seem to work fine. Is this an error in the wiki or do I have the wrong parts?by MrJohn - General
Thanks for the tip on the foil. I cut some into strips and threaded it through the heater block, I had to use 5 or 6 strips before the resistor would stick well inside. I don't have any shrink tube but no foil is touching the leads. I need to read up on the wiki and I might have more questions about how to attach the thermistor or thermal-couple, whichever I received with my kit. Please look atby MrJohn - General
Thanks for the help, I've read the wiki over dozens of times and that's where I learned about the fire cement. A quick google search shows that it isn't sold in local hardware stores. I hate to keep buying stuff online if I don't have to. I'll try the foil, can I use my wife's hair dryer to shrink the tubes?by MrJohn - General
I'm trying to figure out how to build the extruder nozzle but I'm confused about how to bond the resistor to the heater block. Do I use fire cement, epoxy or nothing?by MrJohn - General
Yeah, I have a full set of Sells mendel parts and hardware, but it is giving me major problems. I was considering buying a Prusa plastics and just using that set to build my x,y axis' while keeping the z axis belt system as a Sells setup. Come to think of it I could replace the Sells Z threaded rod 360 and 180 bearing and the mover (the part with the nuts that go up and down on the threaded roby MrJohn - General Mendel Topics
I have made contact with Gil and he has already shipped a complete set of new parts, that's like a $200 value. I also asked him for clearer instruction on how to build the extruder and hot end and he offered to build it for me, take pictures with descriptions and ship the extruder as one piece with the plastic parts. Now that's customer service. Gil told me there are no more issues with the stuby MrJohn - General
I am currently building a botmill Axis 2.1 Sells-Mendel kit. It has tons of nuts and bolts, and was wondering if I could mix some of the Prusa features with the current build. Such as the triangle pieces, X axis, Y-carriage and bar clamps. I know I cannot replace the z axis belt system unless I get another motor but would this even be possible? Any problems might pop up that I cannot think of?by MrJohn - General Mendel Topics
I need a metric set, do you have any ready? Also, I'd be more inclined to buy if your photo was much clearer with a note with your name and date.by MrJohn - Plastic RepRap Parts for Sale
I don't think so. The parts I got looked reprap'ed on the outside but smooth and white on the inside. Commercial 3D printed I think. I'm posting videos on youtube right now.by MrJohn - General
I got my kit yesterday. First the good stuff. 1. Well packaged and organized. 2. Almost everything was included that was promised on the site. 3. Extra tools included. The not so good stuff. 1. Most of the plastic parts are warped, glassily, not drilled correctly/ at all, whole faces of parts missing. Mismatched, grey and black. 2. The 1 lb of PLA filament was not included. 3. Stepper motorby MrJohn - General
I've found a free online family tree maker and started adding families to it. You can add your own info. Setup- It is split between Reprap and RepSTRAPS. (Parts purchased from ReprapLTD have their own branch, True Bloods, if you will) Select the repraps side then you must have gotten the parts from another Mendel/ Prusa Mendel/ Huxley. If you got your parts from anywhere other than aby MrJohn - General
