Hi I would use a Terminal programme to communicate. Then try simple commands. G1 F500 G1 X100 E100 If you have your firmware setting right you should have the axis move 100mm and about a 100mm of plastic extruded. A lot of info in this thread:-by emt - General
Hi Not that easy as. I started with the Skeinforge defaults and observed the results. Useful information here:-by emt - General
Hi Did you let Enrique know? He is normally pretty quick fixing problems.by emt - Skeinforge
Hi I have found on a number of occasions the only way to get a clean Skeinforge update is to delete the old Skeinforge working directory and start from scratch as Enrique has definitely changed the sub directory references as the programme has developed. So far this has not applied to existing preferences which have been picked up without any problems. However it is probably a good idea to keepby emt - Skeinforge
Hi You do need a fairly recent Skeinforge. I think skeinforge may produce 2 alterations directories. The one you need to change has sample files in it and I think is in the main skeinforge application directory. I cannot check at the moment as I am travelling. The most basic change you will need is an entry:- EtabA This will give you A axis instead of E for the extruder. Other changes wilby emt - General
Hi Skeinforge will support EMC. You just have to edit replace.csv in the alterations directory. Make sure you use a tab between the items. I had skeinforge producing code for my EMC repstrap. I gave up using it and am building a Mendel as my CNC machine could only do 300mm a minute, a tenth of the speed of Mendel.by emt - General
Hi I was referring to to the 5D Arduino firmware here:-by emt - Firmware - mainstream and related support
Hi I am using a Mega with the latest Mendel firmware. I also had the timing trouble with the host on Windows XP . There is a note that Java 6 is flaky on Windows so I tried Java 5. I still had trouble so I switched to Ubuntu. This works better for me and I can get jobs printed but I still sometimes get communication failure like this. ERROR: bufferQueue(): too many retries (4) sending T0 [27.9by emt - Firmware - mainstream and related support
Hi I can't see a need for a temperature sensor without a heater in normal circumstances but you never know. Maybe there will be a time when a seperate temperature input could be handy.by emt - Firmware - experimental, borrowed, and future
Hi Casainho Are you using Skeinforge to create the code you use with the original RepRap Mendel firmware? My understanding is that it is the code format created by Skeinforge (which is valid G code) causes problems due to the way the acceleration has been implemented.by emt - Firmware - experimental, borrowed, and future
Hi Great news that the thermistor may be added to the code. Could the code be structured so that a thermistor can be used for both Extruder and Bed? With regard to acceleration as far as I can make out nearly every body that uses Skeinforge to generate their 5D G code for a Mendel turns acceleration off in the official firmware as it causes problems with the way the code is interpreted. Not usiby emt - Firmware - experimental, borrowed, and future
Hi If any one has this working with a thermistor extruder and thermistor bed I would like to get hold of a copy. I would like to implement this on a mega. My Arduino programming knowledge is such that I should be able to make the required pin changes but not much more at this stage.by emt - Firmware - experimental, borrowed, and future
Hi If you want to alter the Skeinforge output you can use replace.csv in the alterations directory If you enter G1 E0.0(tab)G92 E0 in replace.csv the output code will have a G92 E0 instead of G1 E0.0. I use this on my machine. It may need a recent version of skeinforge.by emt - General
Hi Skeinforge has the ability to alter the E value as a proportion of the axis movement. Controlled by feed rate and flow rate in Speed. If they are the same flow is 1: 1 If you increase flow rate to 10% greater than feed rate you get 10% more extrusion and so on. (This may be only in the later versions )by emt - RepRap Host
Hi G1 is feed at defined feed rate (Fvalue) and G0 is rapid (get there as fast as possible regardless of Fvalue) in Gcode format. Are you saying one was incremental and the other absolute? If so something is wrong in the makerbot. You could actually change the G1 to G0 in the skeinforge replace.csv but I don't think that is the way to go. Unfortunately I don't use ReplicatorG so I can't helpby emt - Skeinforge
Hi If this was addressed to me I am using the latest version from :- I just checked and my first layer is put out at Z0.3 and my layer thickness is set to 0.6mm. There may be a setting in skeinforge to change this but I can't find it.by emt - Skeinforge
Hi You could try activating multiply with an offset for centre. If you have columns and rows set at 1 you get only one object BUT it will be moved away from zero. I use Inventor and have had the odd problem with STL files. Inventor 2011 seems Ok but on earlier versions I had to import the files in Rhino and then export new STL files. This also gives you the chance to move the model away from X0by emt - Skeinforge
Hi Skeinforge has changed the directory structure over time. I would get the latest version from here:- Install into a completely new directory. Run from the new directory It should retain your old settings but you could back them up as a precaution. When you are happy the new version works ok delete the old skeinforge directory.by emt - Skeinforge
Hi Uniquebot What repstrap/reprap are you running? I have just finished the axes on my Mendel. When you home you get a slight bounce so you have to set the Z zero slightly above the bed so that you don't hit the bed with the nozzle when homing. I can adjust the Z home slightly on the spring to control the first layer thickness. I wonder if that is why the SF first layer is half normal layer toby emt - Skeinforge
Hi Are you using standard Mendel firmware? If so you could try sending standard G codes from a terminal to figure out what your extruder is doing. Send separate commands, you should get an "ok" response to good commands. F100 (CR) G92 E0 (CR) ; sets E to zero G01 E100 (CR) ; The space between 1 & E is required I believe This should put out 100 mm of extrusion in one minute If the extrudby emt - Skeinforge
Hi You don't have to edit files. Any coding in start.gcode is automatically appended to the front of the gcode file that Skeinforge generates. I used it to invoke tool length offsets on my Repstrap.by emt - Skeinforge
Hi I think the alterations plugins may only be in later versions of Skeinforge which are here:- I always use the latest version as Enrique is improving the programme all the time. I have rarely had any problems and when I have Enrique has responded very promptly. I always delete the old version directory completely as the directory structures have changed over time and if you don't have a cby emt - Controllers
Hi I believe you can use a start.gcode file to add a small movement and a G92 to move the Z0 to where you want it F500 G01 Z???? ; whatever lift you need G92 Z0 Not tried but I think it will work. start.gcode is in the Skeinforge alterations directoryby emt - Skeinforge
Hi The price of the Pololu stepper drives and electronics is pretty low. My guess is you may find it is not worth the hassle of switching electronics.by emt - Controllers
Hi Which Firmware? Step per mm are usually set in the firmware.by emt - General
Hi I have used an extruder bolted on my CNC mill. It did work but was pretty slow. I managed to get up to 300mm a minute where Mendel runs at 3000mm a minute. So build were 10 times slower. I also had quality issues so I have finally after 2 years playing with a CNC Repstrap started to build a Mendel.by emt - Controllers
Hi I believe this firmware is working. You need to check the pin numbers, set the correct steps and set the motherboard type. I have a Mendel nearly complete with Pololu drives. The X Y & Z work fine with this firmware but I have not completed my extruder so I have not tested that. But Adrian did post a while back that his Pololu driven system was working. Look in the main blogby emt - Controllers
Replacing M108 S### with M108 R### S (tab) R in replace.csv should do it. Will change all S to R. For specifics you can I believe put M108(space)S (tab) M108(space)Rby emt - Controllers
Hi I have tried this. The stepper motor drives are not up to driving anything other than a very small mill. In the end I bought Chinese 4 amp micro stepping drives from here :- . and built a 40 volt power supply. Secondly none of the firmware I tried had suitable acceleration and deceleration to suit the inertia you get with a heavy table and screw drives. This may have changed in later firmwaby emt - Controllers
Hi I understand Skeinforge uses some M functions internally even if your firmware does not need them. You can play with replace.csv in the Skeinforge alterations directory to change the final output in the G code.by emt - Controllers
