I started a little project on Kickstarter in order to promote 3D printing and get some Mendel parts in some peoples hands for a reasonable amount. Check it out here Also check out the blog that is part of the project here Any help wuld be appreciated and rewarded at the right contribution level with Mendel parts. Thanks Bradby Curlrup - Reprappers
Geared so both wheels with the threaded groove spin not just one with a bearing. Will be driven by one large pulley with a toothed belt going to a NEMA 17. The two wheels will be spring loaded so there is constant squeeze on the filament. It's going to be sweet.by Curlrup - Reprappers
Well...my Darwin is working great except the darn extruder will not grab that filament consitantly. I also have some leftover material from an old FDM machine so i am going to rebuild my extruder to accept the 1 mm filament and do some reverse engineering on some old FDM pinchwheels. Time to hit the machine shop.....by Curlrup - Reprappers
Bad STL file fixed that now I am waiting for a gear to arrive so I can get some good grip on that PLA. I could be building parts if I could extruder consistantly. the bore on my current gear is a tad too big so it is wobbling which gives you some extruding and then no extruding, then extruding, then no extruding. New gear with the correct bore size on the way.by Curlrup - Reprappers
You might have a diffrent problem than me if you are running the v 2.2 extruder controler. I am running Gen 2 electronics. So no extruder controller. However, What fixed my problem was using a forked firmware that was tweaked to run 5D code on the Arduino Mega. The Mega has more memory and more pins so it is a slightly diffrent setup than a regular Arduino.by Curlrup - Reprappers
OK I got everything rolling again. I even got Skeinforge, and Repilcator G rolling so now I just have to get that extruder stepper gear to stop slipping and I am good to go. The gear I put on the shaft to grip the filament keeps workinig loose. That is an easy fix I know how to do. I soon will be posting first prints!by Curlrup - Reprappers

Yep none of that helps me at all. Sorry folks but when it comes to java and programing I am a complete novice, I know little to nothing. I know more than most but what Triffid and Ballance posted went right over my head.by Curlrup - Reprappers
I see. Why is it doing this now? Before I moved to the 5D firmware it would run an entire part (without plastic). Python will not install on my host computer. It gives me an error that I have an unsupported processor. It's an Intel chip on a machine that is maybe a year old. Unfortunatally this is teh only machine I have to work with, and I can't mess with it too much because it runs my Objby Curlrup - Reprappers
Running windows XP too I did a search on the error and found a thread where the person changed the Extruder material parameter from PLA Infill to PLA. That seemed to fix things I will try that but that seems to have nothing to do with what it is asking. Isn't it erroring because of something in the firmware set to -1 that should not be? Sorry I know very little bout Java, and C++/Arduino.by Curlrup - Reprappers
Ok my Darwin Running the forked for Mega 5D Firmware, Host 1.3 and Gen 2 electronics is working fine except.... it prints 2 layers and then gives me this error. Productionexception:java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: -1 I have no idea what it is talking about. Any thoughts? Thanks for everyones help so far I am almost there. Curlyby Curlrup - Reprappers
Well I tried a diffrent STL file and it works great! I think that SYL was bad, very very possible. New problem.......I know will it ever end. This is a little more cryptic It stops after two layers and gives me this error message Productionexception:java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: -1 ????? What is out of bounds? It is tracing the file perfectly. It homes and starts printing.by Curlrup - Reprappers
The funny thing is even though it is building huge parts when it homes and triggers the Optos it keeps right on going. If I home it in the control panel on the host it stops. I will get all my versions and G Code here soon. It's funny I jog the machine 10 mm in each axis and it jogs very close to 1by Curlrup - Reprappers
The machine moves fine it is just building everything HUGE. I know it sounds like a simple inches to metric conversion but where? Everything is set to metric and the STL is metric. The STL loads in the host software in the right scale but looks like it is printing inches....I have to be missing a conversion somewhere.....by Curlrup - Reprappers

Also how many opto endstops should I have? I have 2 for each axis but only 1 hooked up on each.by Curlrup - Reprappers
Well if it isn't one thing it is another. Now when I send a part to the machine that is about a 2 inch in diameter circular part it draws an oblong part all across the entire platform. I thought I had axes switched but nope all are where they should be. It's like it is building in metric on one axis and inches on the other. The z stage is fine. So wierd. Any thoughts?by Curlrup - Reprappers

New/correct firmware did the trick now I need to get my extruder to grab a little better. Very hot PLA smells horrible. just so you know.by Curlrup - Reprappers
Got it! it all works! That Firmware Wolfgang pointed me to did the trick. Now I need to tweak my extruder it's a little weak. Thank you everyone!!!by Curlrup - Reprappers
Update: Still fighting extruder problems. I can't get that stepper to step no matter what I do. So I am trying to work that one out. I will post pics when I have parts to show.by Curlrup - Reprappers

OK here is what I am running: The latest Host 1.3 Firmware 1.4 set for Arduino Arduino environment 0017 Adruino Mega Processor Gen 2 Electronics a Stepper extruder using the thermister/temp sensor, PWM board that came with the Gen 2 electronics, and Stepper controler board 1.2 All electronics have been tested and re-tested and re-testeted usinig various test programs. Everything works. When Iby Curlrup - Reprappers
Is there a library I need to add to the Arduino software in order to correctly compile and load the 1.4 firmware??by Curlrup - Reprappers
I am at a loss it should just work right? the hardware works the enable pin works...I'm just not getting any step or direction signals. Am I missing something?by Curlrup - Reprappers
Ok here are the notes from the firmware I am using Code added to GCode_Interpreter to support stepper-driven extruders. The ordinary DC motor speed (pulse = step) and direction (= direction) pins also drive the stepper. Ther is an additional stepper-enable pin defined. Set this -ve (the default) to not use a stepper drive. Set it to the enable pin for the stepper to use one. What is -ve? Aby Curlrup - Reprappers
