I edit /Applications/replicatorg-0018-mac/machines.xml in TextEdit and rename ~/.replocatorg/machines.xml with either Finder or terminal (mv machines.xml machines.xml.bak). ReplicatorG automatically places a copy of the new machines.xml into ~/.replicatorg directory. I use Spotlight to hunt down duplicates.by stevew - General
The Java is beyond me. . . I downloaded reprap-mendel-20100628 and seached for the #define MAX6675_THERMOCOUPLE and looked at temperature.h too. The best (known name) reference that I could find using the MAX6675_THERMOCOUPLE is casainho. Take a peek at this and perhaps it will give you a clue, sorry that it does not fall open at my touch. (all the code with MAX6675 defined) Here's another pby stevew - General Mendel Topics
Greg, Thanks for the "Ground Bounce" idea. I'll set up a star ground set of wires back to the PS. On my 2nd set of MakerBot electronics for a MillStrap build, I wrapped the 10'-0" ribbon cables and the power leads separately in grounded baking foil and taped that with 2" packing tape. My Mendel has all unshielded wiring and the 3 ribbon cables and stepper wires run right next to one another.by stevew - General Mendel Topics
I've gotten the "horrible buzzing" when the values in my machines.xml file were way off. Using 5/16" Stainless all thread Z axis lead screws on my Mendel and hacking my own machines.xml values caused the problem. Resetting the steps value to lower values fixed it for me. Could this help?by stevew - General Mendel Topics
In my case the interference is causing spurious steps on other axis. The ribbon cables and the wires from the stepper boards currently run next to one another and appear to need separation and/or a grounded shield around them to ensure that that is not the source of the extra steps. I twisted everything and even plaited the stepper motor wires with a whip 'braid' but my Mendel setup has then toucby stevew - General Mendel Topics
Lionel, Mine sits in a ziplock bag, a mystery that has evaded my comprehension this far. Best suggestion is to write to Kimberly and Lambert Andrus at TechZone and ask them for a photo of an assembled one. I purchased a Wade's geared extruder in PLA from beverageexpert(sp?) which also sits in a bag as my fastener supply does not have the appropriate parts and McMaster-Carr orders are qty. 100 oby stevew - General Mendel Topics
If you didn't get the lasercut parts to fabricate a geared extruder, then use Google. When my Techzone Lasercut Mendel was shipped in April their extruder was still in development and I purchased a Plastruder from MakerBot (~$225 with spares kit). Google "reprap mendel extruder" and there are 33,600 returns. The MakerBot Plastruder is heavy and large, not the best idea for a Mendel. It severelby stevew - General Mendel Topics
Thanks nophead. I've a spool of PLA that I've yet to try and will try some of that before I disassemble my machine a bit for further mods.by stevew - General Mendel Topics
The designers intended that the aluminum build plate be notched to allow passage of the screws. I too used washers at first, but removed them to add clearance. Quote from an email: QuoteLambert Andrus I also knew that the build plate needs to have a little filing done, but I wanted to make sure that the plate itself gets attached under the screws too, I have found that a sharp knife does a fineby stevew - General Mendel Topics
Greg Frost, My printbed supports also strike the vertexes at the extremes of movement. The printbed itself has no clearance issues. I've installed MakerBot opto end stops and current Y-axis range of movement is approximately 160 mm (~6 3/8"). I set my vertex distances from the file (requires Open Office to view the file) J2 = 234 mm -> distance between vertex faces, which are measby stevew - General Mendel Topics
"Green" with envy. Thanks for posting your machines.xml. I have a TechZone LaserCut Mendel assembled and working, without a properly configured machines.xml file. My attempts at parts and calibration testing pieces form Thingiverse are failures so far. I used SAE 5/16" Z-axis lead screws and need to continue calibration. All of my electronics and motors are MakerBot's and I'm using their Plaby stevew - General Mendel Topics

Two requests: 1. If anyone has a working TechZone Mendel either with M8 Z-axis lead screws or SAE 5/16" lead screws, please post your machines.xml data for your machine. Mine was wacky and I've deleted it. 2. Has anyone tried heating the aluminum build platform? I bought extra wire and thermistors and dielectric tape for an eventual heated bed. Adrian Bowyer's heated bed (see: ) has me thiby stevew - General Mendel Topics
Thanks nophead. I tried three times, met failure, descended to four letter Anglo-Saxonisms. My bad. Will dump page source when off phone and learn. My machines.xml for RepG is bad, yet more to learn.by stevew - General Mendel Topics
We can all assist one another. This request goes out to everyone using a Mendel that reads this. Getting a working Cartesian machine was easy for me. Getting ReplicatorG and Skeinforge has been the tough part. The main problem that I am having is my extruder tip, MakerBot's, hits hardened ABS ooze or strings and the X and Y-axis steppers lose steps resulting in failed prints. Turning up theby stevew - General Mendel Topics
Start by reading every post here and follow each link and read there. Get the software and install it. ReplicatorG, Skeinforge, Pleasant3D (for Mac OS X), check out Thingiverse and search for "calibration". Get a metric measuring device. Google is your friend, learn to use it. I just entered "wiki lasercut Mendel assembly", basically your query here with the addition of 'wiki'. This is onby stevew - General Mendel Topics
I too worried about accurate measurement of long distances, having only a 1" Starrett micrometer and an assortment of inside and outside calipers. The lack of great accuracy may be contributing to my inability to complete a single successful print. Warping without a heated bed has been a major problem, that and my ignorance of Skeinforge's settings and electrical (RF) interference. Striking haby stevew - General Mendel Topics
I did not have too much trouble with the assembly. Fine adjustment was difficult. There was not enough bottom clearance for the belts and I jacked the whole RepRap up on scrap wood parts from my try at a wooden Mendel. The Y-axis 360-bearing was missing one popsicle stick, plasmator is right. I have always saved lots of those for throw away single use epoxy mixer/spreaders and just step drillby stevew - General Mendel Topics
I was not brave enough to use Nylocs. They're too strong for me. I just used M3 hex nuts and put a tiny dab of hot glue between the exposed threads and the nut. It makes disassembly easy and as I found adding washers to shim belt bearings into better alignment Nylocs would have been too much work as many fastners end up being tightened with just the tips of needle nose pliers and the Allen wrenchby stevew - General Mendel Topics
All working. Assembly complete. MakerBot electronics drive all 3 axis well. Reduced stepper power until just enough to move axis and it is quiet. Will post film. The belt clamps for the X-axis carriage need 4 bolts run from inside. Required removal of upper x-axis 360 bearing. M3 16 mm caps screws worked for me and the short arm Allen just reached. Note: don't waste time with cheap Allen wrenchby stevew - General Mendel Topics
Will post pic in General Assembly soon. You will want a dozen #6, 10-32 round heads or pan heads and a bunch of washers and nuts 3 nuts per machine screw. 8 for the Frog and 4 for the bed an aluminum plateby stevew - General Mendel Topics
Seller says my post-processed parts shipped on the 6th, May 2010. Will post pics, at unboxing.by stevew - General Mendel Topics
Yes, thanks. Ordered #100 count boxes of fastners from McMaster-Carr yesterday. Hope that they're enough. Cut belt appears to be stocked at all their locations, but Z-axis continuous comes out of their New Jersey warehouse. Electronic have shipped too. Will be busy.by stevew - General Mendel Topics
The Differences posted at www.reprap.org/wiki/LaserCut_Mendel mentions QuoteTech Zone Remix on RepRap Wiki far fewer m4X40 bolts (and less bolts in general), but it uses more of the m4X16 bolts My parts have been shipped and I'm trying to order the remaining parts. Is there a parts count for fastners and bearings for the Tech Zone Remix Laser Cut Mendel posted? (I have a Mendel bearing set, roby stevew - General Mendel Topics
