I just purchased a full graphic smart controller from greentech (has anyone else had experience with them?) to upgrade my printer. I have used the regular smart controller in the past and it was great. When I added the controller it appeared to be working well at first but then I noticed that it was not able to move the axes. Auto home and move axes did not work but everything else like preheat Pby erikn - RAMPS Electronics
I had to fashion one of the acrylic parts by hand that I never got, and I just ordered the missing hot end from ebay. I'm still trying to get the parts but at this point I'm probably going to give up soon. I honestly don't think they're even checking their inbox anymore. Luckily I'm only about $20 deeper into this and a little bit of extra labor. Has anyone else been trying to contact them still?by erikn - General
Just to put this to rest; diytechshop closed down as well as the other related company xssink .by erikn - Prusa i3 and variants
They changed the printer from a Core XY to just a basic movement. Thats why they took forever to ship out because they were being redesigned mid order. Use the modified x axis pdf to build the new x axis. I guess they never updated the github since they went out of business. BTW, anyone who ordered one not get it yet?by erikn - General
Yeah by the time I came across this it was too late, I'm guessing I lost about $50 from the missing hot end and the extruder part I'm somehow going to have to replicate. At least the instructions have been released and anyone that's stuck can come here for help.by erikn - General
Just make sure you don't go down the way of diy tech shop! It's actually impossible to reach them at this point no matter what I do. I have no idea what's going on over there but it doesn't seem good. I just want my hot end what if they closed down :/by erikn - General
Found the cable, its the DB9 serial header cable. Not sure how to delete posts but maybe someone will come across this that needs itby erikn - RAMPS Electronics
I'm trying to find the reprap discount smart controller cable so that I can extend the panel to the front of my printer. Of course I could just splice the cables and solder in some wires but then I wouldn't be able to change things up later on. I feel like the controller wouldn't be designed with such a random cable but I can't find a name for it, although I did find it (from the print on the cabby erikn - RAMPS Electronics
I think they made a mistake on my order with the extruder parts. There are a bunch of weird markings where there should just be a check next to all of the extruder parts on the bill of materials. On the oder list though it says hot end and bowden extruder though so I think something went wrong communications wise. It has been impossible to get in touch with them, unfortunately. If I wasn't missinby erikn - General
I just noticed that they abandoned the CoreXY movement! I should have know right off the bat when I saw the motor in the x axis but it took some time to process. Thanks to those photos though it makes sense now. Still missing lots of things though.by erikn - General
Update: Their website is undergoing maintenance and they are not taking any order anymore. I think people were right to say they were really really in over their heads with everything going on. I will give them a call and see what I can do. Best of luck to them though b/c I know from past experience that they are helpful.by erikn - General
While building this printer I'm starting to realize that I am missing many many parts. The extruder is nowhere to be found and I am missing pulleys and lots of screws. I am also missing the extruder plate. Who knows that I'll come across, or rather not come across, next. For now I am just trying to do as much as I can.by erikn - General
I actually never got a shipping number, it just showed up. Last time I ordered with them I got the shipping details within almost a week or two. This time I barely heard back and then finally it just showed up about a month and a half later.by erikn - General
Major thanks for the instructions! I'm really looking forward to building the printer. For a second I was afraid there weren't even any! I'll be posting some updates as I move along.by erikn - General
Hey, Its pretty comforting to know everyone is pretty much in the exact same boat as me with this printer. Its crazy how your experiences almost exactly match mine. The only thing is that this is my second printer form DIYTechshop and the first one was great and came with great customer care. Anyways, I never received any instructions and when I try to contact them about it I don't get any repliby erikn - General
I'm beginning to suspect that the shifting comes from print speeds that go too fast in tight areas of infill. It also has to do with the general shape of the print. Something that has no infill and is just a repetitive rectangle shape with an open bottom and only several layers thick will not shift. An example of this is a gopro case. But when I go to make a phone case the large amount of infillby erikn - General
Thanks for the help, Im using RAMPS 1.4 with Marlin with everything cool to the touch, even the steppers. My drivers have heat sinks and a fan. I spent a long time dialing in the steppers just right and I'm pretty sure they're good based on what I can tell. I am doing a Cura print right now to see if I get anything different. I create the gcode directly onto an sd card and use my Discount smartby erikn - General
This problem has been plaguing me for some time now. To be honest I am not entirely sure if it is a software issue or not. It seems like it cant be. I get print shifting on some of my prints of up to a cm off. Sometimes it is just a few mm. Sometimes it happens just a few layers in and other times is comes after hours. For the ones that happen after hours they are usually really small so I am thiby erikn - General
I've worked with DIY tech shop before and I had a good experience. I received free threaded rods beause mine were a little warped and I also got a whole new RAMPS Kit when my arduino was blown out along with some stepper drivers. They had great customer service and the fact that they were even willing to help was amazing. This is a kit and most people will just leave you to figure it out on yourby erikn - General
Hey everyone, thanks for all the help, my Marlin settings are as follows #define DEFAULT_MAX_FEEDRATE {500, 500, 1, 25} // (mm/sec) #define DEFAULT_MAX_ACCELERATION {9000,9000,100,10000} // X, Y, Z, E maximum start speed for accelerated moves. E default values are good for skeinforge 40+, for older versions raise them a lot. #define DEFAULT_ACCELERATION 3000 //by erikn - General
Hello, I just got my prusa i3 done and printed some nice prints. As they got longer I started getting some x axis shift. It happened a tiny bit with short-ish (20-30min) prints. For long prints about 20min. in the x axis would shift so the next layer would be off by sometimes up to a 5-7mm. I did one 2 hour print where the result was just completely un recognizable and by the end of the print thby erikn - General
Also, the motors do vibrate when they move and make a lot of noise. I have found a great calibration page on the wiki that I am going to follow and see how things progress.by erikn - General Mendel Topics
I have been doing some research on how to check voltage on the drivers and from what I have been seeing it seems like you probe between the trimpot and the ground pin on the driver, and also that there is a Vref test point. Yet when I try this nothing is read on my multimeter. Once I figure it out how do I set it? Do I adjust the trimpot to get the right resistance across all of them? I got the accuracy thing fixed but now my printer just goes absolutely wild when I ask it to print a cube. It wont go past its limits anymore but it will be going all over the place when the cube is only 10mm^3. Could this be an issue between the Cura to Printrun gcode transfer?by erikn - General Mendel Topics
I just realized that I actually did receive some jumpers with my kit, I feel like I should have realized this late in the game. I only got one jumper per driver though so I installed them in the 1m slot, i.e. the 1/2 step slot. Then I went to measure the travel of the printer and it went 7.5mm per what is supposed to be 10mm. I guess the jumpers did their job. I'm going to use to calculator to trby erikn - General Mendel Topics
Putting over 12V through your Arduino runs the risk of overheating the power supply regulator and damaging the board. I would not recommend this. I quote the wiki here "D1 should only be installed if the 5A rail is powered by 12V. It can be omitted and the Arduino will be powered from USB. You will want D1 installed if you add components to print without a PC. To reiterate, D1 MUST be omitted iby erikn - General Mendel Topics
Thanks for the replies, This is what I have for the #define DEFAULT_AXIS_STEPS_PER_UNIT but I'm not sure how to know what the steps per mm (don't even know if it's mm) is for my nema 17s, also factoring in the belts and threads of the z I foresee that that number may not be easily reached. #define DEFAULT_AXIS_STEPS_PER_UNIT {80,78.80,4000,660} // 660 was 760 * 1.1 calibrate extruder per sliby erikn - General Mendel Topics
How much printing are you doing? If you're doing a ton of printing maybe the filament machine may help. Personally I use my printer to make stuff and not replicate stuff but if that is your use for your printer then the scanner is awesome. I don't use a crazy amount of filament plus its easy to buy and saves me time so I would go for the scanner. Time is money and I'm not sure if the filament macby erikn - General
The RAMPS 1.4 is filled with components of varying max voltages. The D1 and D2 diodes on your RAMPS can only handle 12v on the 5amp rail. Personally I just use 12v off of a 500w power supply. If you're looking to heat your bed faster of your hot end a more powerful supply might help although 500w is more than enough. I would not go below 300w or 18amps with a heated bed. If you have a heated bedby erikn - General Mendel Topics
Hey all, I am very close to getting my printer working but there is one major problem. When I hit the print button the bed heats up and the extruder and the x y and z axis all move to hit their endstops and once they hit them they back away then slowly go back to hit them. All normal. Then the printer will go kind of wild and the x or y axis will move way out of the way for some reason just tryby erikn - General Mendel Topics
