I noticed this as well when making a go-pro mount - then I decided to flip it so that it was printing the "fingers" on it's side, longitudinally. If you think solid layers are strong - this orientation was MUCH stronger! My concern was probably similar to yours - "I don't want to lose my GoPro if the mount breaks!" -This is of course dependent on what your final design looks like, but you couldby mobile chernobyl - Printing
I was not impressed with Igus's stuff either in terms of the static friction threshold. PBC's variant however is proving to be quite an eye opener in terms of what plain bearings are capable of in terms of performance. My next 3D printer will most likely be using their Mini-Rail as Y axis slides and the simplicity round shaft line for Z and X gantry. The only reason I'm using them on the Z is dby mobile chernobyl - Extruded Aluminum Frames
I would be interested in a 14" x 14" square heater pad, 110VAC, and integrated thermistor/thermocouple would be a nice touch. No personal need for an external controller as I would be integrating directly into the main controller by way of SSR and closing the loop with the thermistor/thermocouple. - let me know if you have any interest in having these made - if you wouldn't mind drop me a PM.by mobile chernobyl - Delta Machines
You will see that this has been implemented pretty thoroughly already in the 3D printing industry! - Look up "H-Bot" or "CoreXY"! Core XY was proposed to alleviate some of the moment inducing aspects of the traditional H-Bot gantry system for Cartesian movement - and is therefore considered to be an evolutionary advancement on the H-Bot system. Must have been an interesting meeting though! (Jby mobile chernobyl - Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)
QuoteRigor_M For the heatbed, I custom ordered a silicone heater.. a 230mmx300mm (thats my build platform.. its on the 120Vac rail. they dont cost much.. I think I paid under 100$ for 2 of them.. best of all, you dont need a big power supply becase they are on the 120v.. so, you need about 6A for a single extruder with motors. 10A for a double extruding system. a simple SSR (solid state relay)by mobile chernobyl - Reprappers
Yea I saw that design as well, I really like that too. I was thinking about perhaps adding that as a method of selecting the angles for the pivots on the sliders. I realize the pivots on the sliders complicate the hell out of the math too - This right now is a thought experiment and I just like the simplicity of it haha. As-is the current head will have 2 water lines, 4 bowden feeds, and 4 setsby mobile chernobyl - Delta Machines
QuoteA2 Alternative idea to the prismatic(slider). To alternate between multiple hot ends, mount the hot ends on a revolving plate, and splayed as you have noted. The plate is at an angle (cam), and revolves like the lens on a microscope with a small servo, or NEMA 8 stepper motor. NEMA 8 Frame Size(20 x 20 mm) 1.8° Step Angle Torque - Up to 4.25 oz-in That idea crossed my mind exactly! hahaby mobile chernobyl - Delta Machines
I also posted this on the Google group but thought it would be good to cover both forums... I've been stalking this forum ever since I got my Cartesian printer late last year - my goal for that printer was simply to fool around and print a vitamin kit for a Delta. I have to admit though - usually it's not the juice I'm after but rather the squeeze. The concept of the delta was fascinating, Iby mobile chernobyl - Delta Machines
I was in expert mode - but the Settings... button seems to be the only way to force a unique print setting for a selected object out of a set on the platter being processed in the same g-code generation.by mobile chernobyl - Slic3r
Okay solved it - The Settings... button (I'm using the latest Slic3r release - 1.0.0.RC2) has awesome ability for you to select just one object and vary almost every property for it! I can see the reasoning for not wanting to allow the user to apply a completely new print setting as some of the settings could conflict such as specifying a unique layer height. It would still be nice to vary somby mobile chernobyl - Slic3r
I've tried to do some research prior to asking this question - and I'll be delighted to hear that the option already exists but I could not find anything... Basically I've seen examples of blending different print settings together such as the G-code blender "GBlend" and I've also seen that the creator of Slic3r mentioned interest in creating "region" specific print/slice settings. I would simby mobile chernobyl - Slic3r
