So just how "flexi" is the flexi?by Inquisitor - New Zealand RepRap User Group
There's certainly a lot of interest in 3D printing. The number of people that attended the Lower Hutt Library lecture series is a good indication of that. But I suspect that most people who would be interested in kit-sets either have one or will source parts from overseas. I agree with clogs that you would have trouble competing with Chinese suppliers, especially when you would need to straightby Inquisitor - New Zealand RepRap User Group
I just got back from the 3rd session. Tim Miller from Vic Uni. A very interesting talk on the history and current state of 3D printing, with several interesting video clips. What really interested me was a free form metal printer. I couldn't make last week, so I can't talk about that. Tonight there were 30-50 empty seats, so a few less than the first one. Butterfinger, you will be pleased to knby Inquisitor - New Zealand RepRap User Group
It was an excellent evening. Both speakers were very interesting. It was good to find out that kiwis are still keeping at the leading edge of 3D printing. I look forward to the next two talks.by Inquisitor - New Zealand RepRap User Group
Thanks butterfinger. I've just signed up for the first two.by Inquisitor - New Zealand RepRap User Group
Vik from Diamondage gave me some for free. That's always a good deal.by Inquisitor - New Zealand RepRap User Group

Sounds like your power supply is faulty. Probably lucky it switched off, rather than starting a fire. I agree with needing the heated bed for larger prints with PLA. Small, quick prints are fine onto blue masking tape, but larger prints will warp and lift. I've been trying impact-modified PLA. Unfortunately this is prone to warping on larger prints, even on a heated bed. Yet the same print usinby Inquisitor - Huxley
Tata was good value, but 6m is the least they will sell to you.by Inquisitor - New Zealand RepRap User Group
The main advantage of the Huxley is its small size. My Huxley doesn't take up much room on my desk or cupboard, and it is easy to transport. There also may be a small saving on cost of materials. That said, I'm now building a larger machine. This is because I want to occasionally print larger items; experiment with different materials, such as pastes; and eventually make it a dual, or even triplby Inquisitor - Reprappers
When you say "glowing blue PLA", is this glow in the dark? or just clear with a blue tint? What is your print like with plain white PLA?by Inquisitor - Reprappers

Your base looks OK, so I guess that the taller part is not getting enough time to cool between layers. Try printing 2 or even 4 at a time and see if there is any improvement. Or add a fan.by Inquisitor - New Zealand RepRap User Group
I got 6m of 8mm stainless steel rod for about $39 at Tata Steel.by Inquisitor - New Zealand RepRap User Group
When it hits the endstop, is it actually switching? I had to bend the levers out a bit to ensure that the endstops triggered properly.by Inquisitor - Reprappers
How big is your print job? I have no problem with most prints sticking, except when I try to print something small. Then it lifts up and just makes a mess. I get around this by adding a raft layer and then the small jobs print fine.by Inquisitor - Reprappers
Destructive testing is really the only way. You need to test: the specific parts how they are likely to suffer damage printed in the plastic you are going to use on your machine with the settings you have chosen Change any of these and it just becomes guesswork.by Inquisitor - General

I'm not sure about the metal lathe, but I have used a woodturning lathe quite a lot. I suspect that PLA may actually turn better than ABS. ABS is a little soft and may not turn that well, but the rigidity of PLA would help provided your tool didn't dig in too far and shatter your piece.. I'm not sure if high speed is a good idea, but sharp tools is a must.by Inquisitor - General
I agree that it was busy. But this was mostly due to it being wildly successful. My only complaint would be a couple of choke points where there were stands in what should have been left as a corridor.by Inquisitor - New Zealand RepRap User Group

Try loading the .stl file into whatever 3D drawing program you use and then save it as another .stl file. This file may then work for you.by Inquisitor - General

Swiss army knife. Mostly for the small sharp scissors for trimming the thread oozing out of the nozzle just before I start a print. Big blade for snapping prints off the bed and small blade for cleaning support. And I've been cleaning the kapton tape with home-brewed vodka.by Inquisitor - General
If it is the MOSFET, it is likely that mine has been damaged too. My nichrome wire heater is still working fine though. It will happily do a 6 hour print.by Inquisitor - Huxley
As far as I know, there is no dedicated parking for exhibitors, etc. There is plenty of parking at the museum, which is close and not too pricey. Most of us will be arriving early, so getting decent parks shouldn't be too hard.by Inquisitor - New Zealand RepRap User Group
I'm just bumping this thread because I helped out with some painting for the exhibit backgrounds today.by Inquisitor - New Zealand RepRap User Group
