Changing the slicer seems to have solved the problem, for nowby J3d - Printing
Hi, When printing ABS I often have something odd happening, like if there was not enough material extruded. This occurs not at the beginning, but anywhere during the print, and if I re-print the same part from the same file it can be somewhere else, or not at all. That is weird because the machine otherwise works very well, I calibrated the extruded length, this is printed at very sow speed (40mby J3d - Printing
Thanks, that seems very impressive I will have a closer lookby J3d - Reprappers
Hi Srek, I use E3D clones, V5 and V6 and an old PEEK hotend, but that should be an easy change that I can do myself, as long as I can get most of the extruder in openSCAD that should be OK. Where can I find what you designed? J3dby J3d - Reprappers
Thanks Dust but I want to print flexible filament, among others, therefore no "remote" extruder but one which moves with the x-carriage (this is why I thought a smaller/lighter NEMA14 would help lower the total moving weight) I should have explained that better in the first post but I do not know the name for this type of extruder, is that a "wade" type?by J3d - Reprappers
Hi Trakyan, Thank you for your answer. As you can imagine I already tried to google these keywords but only came up with more or less derived versions of the same basic extruders and with only .stl files. J3dby J3d - Reprappers
Hi, I scavenged a nice little NEMA 14 motor (in an OKI printer/scanner) and I am looking for a model of direct extruder (using an MK7 or MK8 gear), without success. Can someone send me links for relevant CAD files (preferable openSCAD format)? This is for our (highly modified) Prusa i3 and we should be able to modify the drawings (to adapt it to our induction sensor, fan, etc.). Thanks in advby J3d - Reprappers
I have some of this vinyl tape and will give it a try, thanks @Roberts_Clifby J3d - Reprappers
Yes, we learn every time a little bit more We still have not solved the adhesion issue though: even with kapton tape we still need ABS juice otherwise it does not stickby J3d - Reprappers
I ended up installing X & Y endstops and now everything worksby J3d - Reprappers
Hi, Thank you for answering and suggesting solutions @o_lampe: with jumpers on the XY terminals the G28 made the steppers move 5mm as you said and then the z-homing began but it only kept moving along the positive X and Y axis (probably because the X and Y endstops were always triggered), is it because I have options elsewhere in Marlin which are not correct? @Roberts_Clif: I am going to try yby J3d - Reprappers
Hi I got an inductive sensor installed on our printer. It is a basic SN04-N which works surprisingly well, however we can only home Z. G29 does not work because if requires to home X and Y before Z, and we cannot do that without endstops. We are using the printer without endstops since the beginning, and are happy that way. What can we do to bypass this step? J3dby J3d - Reprappers
Hi I replaced my "generic 350Watt chinese PSU" with its fan always on by an ATX PSU taken from an old PC and what a difference: my printer is now extremely silent. The PSU was the main source of noise, this ATX PSU I got for free and it is so much better, powerful enough, does not heat up, more compact and the adaptation was straightforward. I strongly encourage you to try. J3dby J3d - Reprappers
We gave up using the aluminum and copper sheets, not only it does not stick but it radiates so much heat (especially with copper) that the whole printer was becoming way too hot. So back to glass & looking for a local source of PEI, PET or similar tape I have ordered some from China but it is going to take over one month to arrive Any idea where this sort of material is used and where we cby J3d - Reprappers
I will try to source PET tape locally What sort of thickness is the most appropriate for these tapes, I can see rather thin ones (a fraction of a mm) or much thicker ones (1mm or more)by J3d - Reprappers
ABS is carcinogenic? It does not smell that bad... Anyway, we are printing in room which is well ventilated, it is more to avoid my son manipulating acetone, it would be great to print without adding things to the surface Which other material would you recommend instead of ABS?by J3d - Reprappers
I have just ordered kapton tape but that will take ages to arrive and it may not work either... We are not printing large parts, so not much issues with warping but the main problem is that ABS does not stick from the beginning, it just glides on the surfaceby J3d - Reprappers
Hi, I built a Prusa i3 for my son with a heated bed which heats up reasonably well and a sheet of glass on top. ABS does not stick on glass, therefore we tried painters tape (not much success), hair spray (not better) and ABS juice which works very well However, ABS juice based on acetone is not something I want my son to manipulate and inhale. I am therefore trying to find an alternative priby J3d - Reprappers
Yes, the DRV8825 must be installed differently, I checked that before plugging them in I can only assume that they worked originally and have been damaged after installation on the RAMPS Is there a way to test them on their own, to see what can be salvaged?by J3d - Reprappers
I tried the DRV8825s on the MKS GEN V1.4 on the x-axis (which worked with the A4988) and they do not work Which makes me think that the DRV8825s have been damaged on the RAMPS, therefore I do not want to risk damaging the A4988s on the RAMPS I also increased the voltage on the pot for the z-axis A4988 from 0.5 (which is was I set for all the drivers) to 0.75 and it has not solved the problem wiby J3d - Reprappers
Thanks for your inputs There must be something wrong with the Arduino and/or the RAMPS and/or the drivers I therefore gave up using the RAMPS 1.4 and DRV8825 for the moment and borrowed an MKS GEN V1.4 with A4988 from a friend That worked straight away except for the z-axis The x-axis, y-axis and extruder are plugged directly on the board but I have 2 motors for the z-axis. Here is a picture of the stepper driver on the RAMPS boardby J3d - Reprappers
I have installed Repetier-Host now... These are the stepper motors I have: I used an ohmmeter to check the coils and there is one pair with the red/blue and the other with the green/black wires, connected to 2B/2A and 1A/1B respectively Is that correct? Both 5A and 11A on the RAMPS board are connected to 12V, the hotbed and hot end work, the LCD also, only the motors do not move The stepperby J3d - Reprappers

Hi Rossos, Yes I did plug the DRV8825 correctly, thanks There seems to be something that prevents the motors to move, perhaps a safety feature? J3dby J3d - Reprappers
