You can build anything you want that is patented, as long as it is not for commercial purposes. If your intent is commercial, you may have issues.

The Z axis was in need of some repair, so I purchased new bearing blocks and machined up new platform arms. Since the printer is now disassembled, I am going to take this opportunity to redo the sheet metal over the next few days.

If you watch the video they have on their website, you'll notice that nothing is printed on the center of the disk. This is because the extruder would make a mess of things right there. The result is a reduction in build volume. Its a nice machine, but I suspect thats why there aren't many more. CNC machines are a whole different ball of wax.

You checked all the bolts but did you adjust the belt tension? With such a small print, I don't think the stepper motor drivers are overheating, but check them out as well.

Based on the second photo, I would agree that segments are rather large. In what way did you modify the Morgan firmware?

You are definitely not starting at the correct home position from looking at the third picture. What version of the SCARA firmware are you using?, if its Ttsolo's I can help there. The first picture looks as though the stepper motors are either loosing steps or those belts are not tight. The drivers current may need to be increased.

Definitely second the recommendation for Fusion 360. The CAM portion alone his worth 10x the standard price of the program.

Have you considered the technique used on the shapeko x axis, but use it for the z axis. Use a geared stepper motor pulling a timing belt to raise the platform up and down. This would get you away from the complexity of the toothed helical gear.

Try as I might, I am not much of a programmer. That printer runs off a ramps 1.4 purchased from Ultimachine. Great board in my opinion, but a bit expensive. There are knockoffs available on ebay for $40.
I'm not using it at the moment. My main printer went down so I snagged some parts off of it. I have been meaning to rebuild it, I have never been happy with the sheet steel and have long been t

When I built my scara machine, I machined the holes to a very tight tolerance, heated the arms on a hot plate and chilled the bearings. Parts slipped together like a champ.

There is a former forum member named ttsalo that modified Marlin to use SCARA G codes. Perhaps check out how he did it on his Github.

Have you looked at www.chillipeppr.com. They have a program for the tinyg board specifically for use with laser cutters.
