These are good suggestions. The Y-Carriage moves very smoothly since I replaced the bearings and the rods, but after reading your posts I noticed that the Y motor isn't 100% straight. It looks like the previous owner put the tension part a centimeter off from where it's supposed to be. If it's not straight there's a good chance it's binding, which would put a strain on the motor. I'm going to

I have a Prusa-Mendel (I believe this is the i2) that was working fine, but for the last three weeks has been printing the leaning tower of Pisa. I noticed my bearings were worn so I replaced the smooth rods and bearings for both X & Y. Then I leveled the frame and hung a plumb line to make sure the Z axis was straight. Then I tightened the Y axis belt a tiny bit.
Nothing helped. Whenev

That makes sense tmorris9. I guess the cotton balls weren't distributing the acetone as evenly or profusely as wrapping the entire interior with paper towels. My glass container should be fine, but I will have to track down some magnets and try it with paper towel instead of cotton balls. At least now I know it can be done. Thanks!

I must have been half asleep when I posted this. I meant ABS. The parts I printed and put under my glass were ABS. I just edited the topic to reflect my dementia.

I picked up some acetone, jars, cotton balls, a flat aluminum pan, and tried to use vapors to get a shiny finish on some parts. I failed miserably.
In most of the instructables I've looked at, people are putting the jar on a heated plate and turning it way up. I don't have an easy way to do that outdoors, and honestly I'm afraid of it bursting into flames. So I tried doing it cold and leav

Sounds like you just saved me from creating a sticky mess, thanks!
I'll have to see if I can find some stackable glass trays somewhere that will fit inside my 2 gallon glass bottle. Perhaps a candy dish.

I'm going to experiment with smoothing out ABS prints in a glass jar using the vapor from Acetone. I want to be able to do several parts at once by building some stackable trays to go into the jar.
As I understand it, PLA isn't affected by acetone. Will PLA resist Acetone enough that I can use it to make my trays?

I need to replace my pulley belt on one of my Prusa Mendel's. Right now my printer has a belt labeled LL025XL, which as best as I can tell is made by Gates, is 1/4 inches wide, and has a .200 pitch. I'm having trouble finding it on Amazon or Ebay. Does anyone know if this belt goes by a different name that is more commonly found on RepRap sites?

I have two Prusa-Mendel printers I recently bought with identical parts. One had a sanguinololu board, the other was missing a board. I picked up a pair of Ramps 1.4 boards to pop in, downloaded a marlin package and can't seem to get it to play nice. My motors do a tiny wiggle and stop. I'm not sure if my temp readings are right either.
The machine with the sanguinololu works fine. Is there

General Mendel Topics
I picked up a pair of Prusa-Mendel printers from the estate of someone who passed away. He had 3mm spools on both machines, but I can't figure out if his hot end was .35, .4 or .5. I tried extruding in mid-air and measuring the thickness of the filament with my calipers, but my calipers read .55mm or .6 mm depending on how I hold the stuff. That can't be right, unless this stuff swells afte

That is exactly the kind of answer I needed. I really appreciate you taking the time to spell it out for me. Thanks!
I would like some minor clarification on the source code.
1) When I include "source code", I copy the related files from your site to my website, then modify them, correct? Do I need to include a printed or CD version with every item I ship or is the website sufficient? I'm

I'd like to build some TAZ printers to sell. I'm a little confused about how the GPLv3 thingy works. If I want to sell my own version of the Lulzbot TAZ, how do I give Lulzbot credit for the original design? Along the same lines, can I call the machine I build anything I want, or do I need to include Lulzbot in the name? Do I need to call it a TAZ? Would calling it something like "MoonTimb
