I think if you read through the posts in this thread, and of course refer to the Slic3r manual you will find your answer. I think the problem I was having in trying to have Slic3r execute "java -jar myprogram.jar" was that this command has (two) parameters. Slic3r wants to execute a command with NO parameters - exactly what you are asking to do. When Slic3r itself calls yourprogram.exe, it wby RetireeJay - Slic3r
Well, the answer to your question is "kinda sorta." In general, I intended to write the Java application as basically a text processor with little to no user interaction. But in order to test the simplest possible case, I wrote a little "hello world" app which pops up a GUI window. I discovered the code for this in Wikipedia. The simplest way to send a string to a GUI window is actually to usby RetireeJay - Slic3r
Someone on another forum suggested the same thing. But it still doesn't work! Either with just plain "java - jar" preceding the patch to my Jar code, or with a full path to the Java executable, like this: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_45\bin\java.exe" -jar "C:\Users\Jay\Documents\Java\HelloWorldDemo.jar" Of course the above does work within a CMD window. Slic3r says "The configured pby RetireeJay - Slic3r
The subject line says it. I'm talking about Java, not Java Script. I do NOT have much experience with Java, so maybe it is a silly mistake I'm making. In the Eclipse IDE, I have a little program in Java (at the moment, just a hello world kind of demo) and using Eclipse, I can "Export" it to a "Jar" file. This file seems to be "runnable" in the Windows environment, but when I try to call it froby RetireeJay - Slic3r
Something horrible has happened to the speed of Slic3r in V1.0 when "Avoid Crossing Perimeters" is turned on. It was not this way in older versions: With Avoid Crossing Perimeters turned on: Slic3r (x64) 1.0.0RC3 took 104.8 seconds to slice a fairly small part Slic3r (x32) 0.9.10b took 12.9 seconds to slice the same part with exactly the same settings. I'm sorry to use the wrong thread. I searched for Slic3r being slow, and this is what I found. I'm sure there's already a topic about it somewhere but I didn't know where to look. I do wish that Slic3r 1.0.0 could get fixed; I like some of its new features. I'm printing Taulman 645 nylon at 235C. I just recently learned that I can specify a very fast "retract" for the extruder when preparingby RetireeJay - Ormerod
I have given up on using 1.0RC2 because of the incredibly slow time to write the G-code file. The earlier versions of Slic3r just take a few seconds to maybe a minute on my Win-7 computer, but Slic3r 1.0RC2 can take 5 minutes for a simple model and 20 minutes for a complex one. All the settings are the same (including avoid crossing perimeters, which is a necessity for me printing with nylon).by RetireeJay - Ormerod
I've had exactly the same thought as Jaba - why not just push a little more plastic through, and lay down a smooth trace. Another maddening "feature" is when the infill is a very low percentage. For example, here is a snippet of G-code. G1 X77.170 Y87.608 F30000.000 ; move to fill point G1 X77.109 Y87.547 F720.000 E38.19390 ; fill G1 X77.315 Y88.235 F30000.000 ; move to fill point G1 X79.148 Yby RetireeJay - Slic3r
There is an option in Slic3r in the Extrusion Width section for "First Layer" extrusion width. I was hoping that this would be, in effect, an Extrusion Multiplier for the first layer, but it seems not to be the case. I specified 400% because I'm printing on a somewhat uneven surface (canvas) and wanted to be sure the plastic would be "smooshed" down into the texture nicely. I guess it must extby RetireeJay - Slic3r
Although I do not have a Printrbot Simple, I am active in the Printrbottalk forum and trying to support many people who do have Simples. The Simple has no "zero" switches, so the printhead must be located at 0,0,0 manually and then the software told that this is so. It's easy enough on the Printrboard - just power down and back up. In Repetier for the MAC there is a "Set Home" button which aby RetireeJay - RAMPS Electronics
The article on z-banding artifacts got me to do some investigation. I'm using a Printrbot Plus, which has smooth rods to constrain the direction of motion on the z-axis, so "wobble" is not an issue. The article says that only true full steps of the stepper motor are repeatable and accurate. But in my experience with the Printrbot and Kysan motors, microstepping seems to work just fine. I love Repetier-Host 0.84. But one thing is annoying. Even though I have the application screen Maximized on my Windows 7 machine, it feels crowded. Initially, I didn't even know there was a "log" window because it didn't appear. Now that I have the "log" visible, then the tabbed windows on the right don't all fit. For example, in the Manual control tab I can't see both the G-code line at thby RetireeJay - Repetier
