Personally running 42BYGHM809's. They all work like champs. Looking at the specs, they don't seem so different. I bet nophead has an idea about why they don't work. Have you metered out the leads and have the steppers connected correctly?by akhlut - General Mendel Topics
Model #? I've used Wantai steppers for 3+ months now with zero issues.by akhlut - General Mendel Topics

I'm a little dumbfounded. People buy reprap kits all the time - how is this one any different? Sure, the design is unique and may alleviate some of the problems of the Prusa, but why the vitriol? Who cares if someone commercializes the technology and tries to make some money from it? Will it affect me? No. Will it prevent me from building my next Reprap? No. More choice in a marketplaceby akhlut - General

Really? That seems very hot. Anything above 50C for me results in PLA warping.by akhlut - General
John, How did you make out?by akhlut - Reprappers
Those labels (the reusable ones) seem like they might work - not too expensive either. Only problem is range - no single sticker will work for PLA and ABS - the sticker ranges are too narrow. And it's a bit expensive... I just ask about the kapton because unless it is perfect it may be interfering with heat transfer. Since heat transfer is a function of surface contact any imperfection in theby akhlut - General
Depends on the level of accuracy. I measure the temp at the edge of the heated bed, knowing that the center is invariably hotter. How much hotter? For me about 15C at full blast. Why the kapton between the PCB and glass?by akhlut - General
I am not an engineer, self-sourced everything and didn't break the bank. Just have to play with the numbers to minimize shipping costs. And if you go with an SAE Prusa the parts are fairly cheap and locally available (assuming you're in the US) - you may already have some. Matmo - who did you eventually get your kit from? $575 is pretty cheap.by akhlut - General Mendel Topics
For PLA: 55C for first layer or two 35C for rest of printby akhlut - General
I've been experimenting with the same technique - with great success I might add. Still minor lift here and there, but the extra plastic really helps with warping.by akhlut - General
I cracked the PEEK when I pulled my seized J-head apart cold. Never do that again. Believe it or not I re-assembled it and it prints fine, even with the broken PEEK. Can't say enough about J-heads.by akhlut - Reprappers
Just had the same thing happen to me a few weeks ago. I'm not sure about how tight the setscrew needs to be - email reifsnyderb@hotmail.com to get an idea. I just tightened mine down until I could see about 1/8" of thread. Worked ever since. Cleanup (for me at least) involved tweezersby akhlut - Reprappers
Ultimachine plastic is good. I've used their PLA and ABS without issue.by akhlut - General
Beautiful first print! Some people would commit a crime for this print quality. Awesome job with the build and calibration! Turn your heated bed down after the first layer or two. Personally I go from 55 to 35 - your mileage may vary. I'm sure others will comment on the minor banding. Great job all around!by akhlut - Reprappers
Way too hot! 185C should be fine for pla. When the plastic starts to turn brown turn it down! Seriously. ABS does have a bit of a stink to it.by akhlut - Reprappers

I buy stuff from Misumi all the time. Never had to sign anything. Maybe I'm an outlier and snuck under the radar. You could always make up a company name and label it as a sole proprietorship. They can't argue with that. The great thing about the extruded aluminum machines is the ability to order cut-to-length extrusions. Damn near perfect. MendelMax. Don't get me wrong, the PrusaV2 is an excellent machine - I love mine. But I could have built 2 mendelmaxes in the time it took to build my Prusa. Between measuring, cutting, grinding and jigging I wasted alot of time. If you want to get up and running with (so far as I know) superior prints then MendelMax is what you want. I'm working on a MendelPrism right now, but it has a fby akhlut - General
