Hi Lawrence, ... we had in past some discussions about fabbing with a pick'n'place-head and prefabbed elements - maybe small spheres or bricks. Imagine a magazine supporting an endless count of small plastic-balls (maybe 1mm in diameter), a dispenser-needle (~0,8mm OD) with vacuum as gripping element, and last a heating element (maybe with friction-heating) which melts the lower half of the balby VDX - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Hi sid, ... my stepper-drivers are capable of 70 Volts and 6 Amperes, but i can drive 5volt/0,4Amp-steppers with them without problems - i have only to adjust the max. current. When the motors are happy with 2.2 Amps current, then they will run with 2 Volts too. The higher voltages are important when reversing the current through the coils - when your max. micro-stepping frequency at 2 Volts iby VDX - Controllers

Hi Lawrence, ... nice idea, but i didn't think it's precise enough for automated fabbing. Whereas it's possible to build manually every shape you want, you didn't have the control or feedback which will allow a precise additive fabbing over larger areas or volumes ... ... there are two directions for tool-changing. 1. manual change: - here you can use any connector-type you want. 2. automated change - this is very tricky and most comercial systems use highly sophisticated and expensive components. If you want to fab a complex part over some hours to days then an automated (cheap'n'easy) tool-changer would be very welcome Viktorby VDX - Controllers
Hi sid, ... i think this is some brainstorming for a multi-head-toolchanger. Hi sid, ... the only important value is the capacity. Hi Martin, old plotters had normally a resolution of 0,025mm (1/40 mm) what was enough resolution for pen-drawing but not enough for laser-cutting. My CNC-mill has an accuracy of 0,0125mm with halfstep or in single micron-range (or even sub-micron) when driving with microstepping (i have 1/8- and 1/256-microstepping-drivers). So a conclusion: - for a 'perfect' resolution where you didn't see aby VDX - General
Hi sid, i have an ISA-card GPIB-interface and a second 'naked' PCB somewhere in my stock - i think it's the same as HPIB, but i didn't have running software or a working PC with ISA-slots at hand.
