David, Thank you for the latest upgrades. I am running the thin wall test so I will stop it at around 12mm to measure the thickness. The filament usage time on this print looks to be more accurate, after all its just straight walls. I will do a small print completely after this has finished and report back. One minor thing I have noticed and which is a bit distracting is the fact that the Head Pby appjaws1 - Ormerod
David, What slic3r version are you using?, I have just moved to 1.1.1-experimental, one of the bug fixes was "Bridge angle detection was failing in many cases (thanks ledvinap for patches and debugging) " . I reprinted your little test piece and I must say it's the best result I've seen. I am using all of the suggested settings from Ian that he posted a few days ago and so far I am really happy.by appjaws1 - Ormerod
Yes it does block some of the light but enough shines through, I think I will make that part thinner in future but it does help keep the airflow pointed at the printed part. Also I had thought of printing it in clear pla.by appjaws1 - Ormerod
Hi Tracy, Some time ago it was suggested that the nut be changed for a brass long nut from ebay. I did this and also change the rod for stainless steel and I must say that I have not had any problems in the Z direction. I can't remember the thread but id would have been early Feb - Re: z- axis nut (long brass) Important Update! February 02, 2014 09:49PM . Hope that helps. Bye the way did yoby appjaws1 - Ormerod
For some time I have been modifying iamburny one piece hot end. I have incorporated a number of features. 1. 3 vents to distribute the air flow across the width of the head, cooling the filament quicker as an aid to bridging -- tests ongoing. 2. Slots for the heater cables and the sensor wires. 3 Protection of the wires from the aluminium block. 4 Extended and strengthened post to keep tby appjaws1 - Ormerod
Hi David, I just printed your test item again using Ian's suggested settings in slic3r, set all extrusion widths to the nozzle size, print the external perimeter first = yes and Start perimeters at: concave points' (and non-overhanging points). I also followed his suggestion of putting the following in config.g:- M203 X15000 Y15000 Z300 E3600; speed tweaks for improved finish M201 X1000 Y1000 Z15by appjaws1 - Ormerod
David, Just had my first crash whilst printing. The chrome interface completely froze, the printer just stopped. I tried to get ctrl/shift J but no response. Tried to refresh chrome but I ended up with the Oops message. Restarted Chrome, again Oops message. Turned Ormerod power off and back on. still the Oops message I can ping the Ormerod. Connected via usb and Pronterface - connected. Issuedby appjaws1 - Ormerod
David, I'm not at home at the moment but I think option 3 would be best followed by option 2. I think most users use slic3r, but maybe the interface could have a button to select which slicer was used. Oh wait, the interface already detects this. So for me option 3. Maybe cure users would want option 2by appjaws1 - Ormerod
David, I haven't said that I use a thicker layer in another thread. But I do I have 1st layer set at 160% of layer height. This was recommended ages ago in order to obtain a good finish on the bottom layer and to help with adhesion. This certainly explains why the Print Duration, Last Layer and estimated Print End Time have never worked for me and why the print information starts at layer 2. Iby appjaws1 - Ormerod
Well the layer height is set correctly and I applied & saved the settings again just to be sure. Started another print of 38 layers with an object height of 9.024mm. It is a reprint of your insulator for ultrasonic. I am now at 10% layer 4 of 38 and all of the boxes just have zeros in them. I am using the Chrome browser version 34.0.1847.116n. on windows 7 Now layer 6 15% completed all othby appjaws1 - Ormerod
Very strange, the interface is working well today with no hang-ups, I have printed 3 small items with no resets. So maybe yesterday was just a glitch. Now that the interface correctly works out the height and % completed, should all of the other information, Print Duration, Last Layer and estimated Print End Time be working now? or is that something that needs work to get it completed? I see thaby appjaws1 - Ormerod
OK will check if it happens again. Thanks for your time Paulby appjaws1 - Ormerod
Thank you David, I knew it would be me and not you.(smile) You were right I had M0;stop at the end of the g file. I tried the circle and that was perfect, the interface just waiting for my next command. Paulby appjaws1 - Ormerod
Hi David, I am using your latest firmware and web interface. I have just completed a print using your new facility - Upload & Print. It worked well, the problem is at the end of the print. X and Y are homed and eventually the hot end fan turns off. All of this is good, however, the interface is frozen, the red button is Retrying (but not actually doing anything) and the status on the right sby appjaws1 - Ormerod
Rather than relying on a set time could the switch off ( M81 ) be dependant on the hot end fan being turned off by the firmware? At least that way a known temperature has been reached so it is safe to turn off. just a thoughtby appjaws1 - Ormerod
After reboots the height is being calculated correctly, I'm sure I rebooted before I posted the comments. Ah well all seems to be working now. Paulby appjaws1 - Ormerod
David, Just using your web interface 0.70, great facility to print directly from a sd temp file. The progress is working well but the object height is showing at 5mm when in fact it should be 22mm, also the estimated print end time boxes are just reading 00:00:00. Have I misunderstood should the height and time be working now? Thanks for your efforts Paulby appjaws1 - Ormerod
Hi Kim I have been having problems with slic3r filling in large hole, making a platform. I didn't get to the bottom of the problem but the indications were that the problem appeared with some slic settings. I printed my model using dc42's settings and everything printed properly. So you might like to try them they are in the " Help with a slic3r or scad problem" thread The other thing I noticby appjaws1 - Ormerod
Pointy - Did your 3 vent make a difference to bridging? dc42 - I tried with your settings and it printed ok. I then changed your settings one at a time and checked in Pronterface for the fill in hole problem Each time I did this the print would have been ok. I then tried all of my settings and the print would have worked. It is almost as if this is random. So I have given up now, updated toby appjaws1 - Ormerod
When I compared your settings with mine, I saw an option -Complete objects, I had 1 you had 0 so I jumped to the conclusion that that was the problem, slic3r was trying to complete the object. As you know this wasn't the problem, it was my model.. I will try and print the original with your settings but I just wanted to get this going and see if it will improve bridging. I will also update slic3by appjaws1 - Ormerod
Sad, sad, sad----It wasn't what I thought. Having had a break for a day or so I looked at the g file in Pronterface and saw exactly where the print was going wrong. I altered my model to put an infill at the top of the vent slope, so now during print, the infill at the top of the vents stop instead of carrying on through and filling the hole. I then checked again but this time my tie wrap cut-ouby appjaws1 - Ormerod
Thank you for a great update, both working well. Could you please explain how to use:- * PID parameters B (full band) and W (I-term limit) added to M301 and M304 commands. These commands also take an optional H parameter to specify the heater number (default 0 for M304 and 1 for M301). I used to use M301 H36 and M304 H-11 to correct the low end readings, but if parameter H refers to heater numbby appjaws1 - Ormerod

Thank you David, that helped I think I might have found the problem. Reprinting nowby appjaws1 - Ormerod
Well I am at a loss to explain what is happening to my modified hot end 3 vents part. This morning it printed OK but I had the length of the vents 3mm too long. So I shortened it in OpenScad just by altering a parameter. I did need to adjust a few more lines but the model compiled and rendered with no errors. In the slic3r viewer all looked good. As you can see from the photo, attached, at aby appjaws1 - Ormerod
Thank you Dave, That procedure sound great and is basically what I have been trying to do, you are right it would be simpler is my items were broken down to modules. That's what I must do in future. now where did I see information about modules in OpenScad? Paulby appjaws1 - Ormerod
Thank you for that explanation Dave, the cutout(extension past the face) I have been applying and they are reasonably easy to find. The problem I had was on a fairly complex part, how to identify when two objects are touching along a single edge or point. My method so far is trial and error, highlighting each line at a time so it can be examined, removing the live and trying F6 again. This is soby appjaws1 - Ormerod
David, I used 198/192 and 65/65, also my extusion multiplier is currently set to 1 and Top infill at 40% of an infill of 50mm/s. As I explained in another thread, my slic3r settings have been adjusted so much when trying to identify the hot-end-3 vent printing problems where large holes would try and be bridged. All I can say is that it appears to be down to speed settings and I'm trying to naby appjaws1 - Ormerod
Hi David, Just printed your test piece and can not see the sort of problem you are having. I did have a thought though. Is your Orthogonal Axis Compensation values still valid? I remember redoing mine earlier on when I was having set up problems and the new values were completely different from the originals I had been using.. I am using your latest firmware, although at the moment I am using mby appjaws1 - Ormerod
Attached photo shows modified Hot end with 3 vents. -- At last--- The file that printed on dc42's machine would not print on mine and kept trying to bridge/fill in large spaces. I still do not know what caused slic3r to do this, the only items of set up I have changed are some of the speed settings, I got so frustrated with this that I became confused (not hard to do) so am not sure which setby appjaws1 - Ormerod
