Which is the better approach?by Freebird01 - Firmware - Marlin
ok... ended up using a different fork of marlin... downloaded and flashed this one: now i have it configured where it will home ok... now i'm just figuring out all my steps/mm now right now i have 190x190x170 in my firmware for dimensions... i know this is off but its a starting point.. question now is should my display show those values at 190x190x170 when at my home positions... (x is far lby Freebird01 - Firmware - Marlin
I have been messing with this build off and on for quite awhile now. I have a Prusa i3 steel I have built...Marlin firmware (Marlin 1.1.0-RC3) Ramps 1.4/Arduino Mega... I for the life of me cannot get this to home... I can jog it in each direction but when i hit the home buttons in pronterface it wont move... i attached my configuration.h file... hope you guys can help..by Freebird01 - Firmware - Marlin
i didnt have hardware flow control selected...all works fine now. thanks guys!by Freebird01 - Duet
Sorry guys...hate to dump a question and run...the printer is at work so I won't be able to mess with it until tomorrow. I know I am able to connect with pronterface just fine and that's what I've been doing. Slice with s3D and print with p-face. Baud rate and com port were the same in both. I'll try it tomorrow and see what I come up with. The only problem I see with slicing to the SD card oby Freebird01 - Duet
Trying to get simplify3d to connect with my duet board....im running 1.09e of DC42's firmware fork... any hints or tricks to look for? I know im using the right com port but it still wont connectby Freebird01 - Duet
thanks! thats pretty much what i was thinking about doing on my next build.by Freebird01 - Prusa i3 and variants
has anyone used a single motor to drive a twin screw z-axis on a prusa i3? couple the screws with a belt and pulleys or some other mechanical means?by Freebird01 - Prusa i3 and variants
Yea I don't feel like that's an issue. I'm not working on it...all I'm doing is loading a gcode file and hitting print with itby Freebird01 - Printrun/Pronterface
I gave up.... I am not an IT guy nor have ever played with Linux. I wasn't doing this to learn the program just wanted to help make a netbook run a tad faster for a specific application. I ended up putting Win7starter back on it with a clean install. That worked and I've been printing with it and have no issues. It's notably slower then Mint was but it works and doesn't error out right away likby Freebird01 - Printrun/Pronterface
mine is appx 90mm center to center for arm spacingby Freebird01 - Delta Machines
So in an effort to cut the tether to my primary laptop and still be able to run my delta printer I took an old netbook i have (Asus Eee 1015pe N450 atom 1gig ram) and flashed it with Linux Mint 17.2 to boost the performance over win7 starter. that all worked out well. i have pronterface installed and got it to connect to the printer. it will send g-code just fine and no issues with homing or bedby Freebird01 - Printrun/Pronterface
"Steel conduct heat, current, is heavy and transmit a lot vibrations," an aluminum frame does the same things except at half the weight... the only instance where plywood is superior to steel is weight reduction and maybe easier to work with for someone who either is not experienced in working with metal or doesn't have the proper tools. There is nothing wrong with talking about your own choiby Freebird01 - Prusa i3 and variants
the bigger issue with patents is it doesnt matter if you patent it 6 ways to sunday...the chinese mfg's will copy them anyway because they know the expense it takes to fight something like that internationally. my post was not a stab at the design. everyone is guilty of looking for a more cost effective way to procure components. my post was mainly directed at the budaschnozzle style hot endsby Freebird01 - Prusa i3 and variants
the ones i have seem to be a heat soak issue more then anything. even with having a 30mm fan on it and wraping the heated block with insulation i still seem to get issues with the nozzle cloggingby Freebird01 - Prusa i3 and variants
yea i learned my lesson with the knock off v6 hot ends. i have 2 of them and havent even made a single good print with them at all. thats why i went to the budaschnozzle... but the design is a bit different so wasnt sure if it would have the same issues. obviously thats one of my fears. did you ever get a DVM on the heater cartridge and see if that was the issue?by Freebird01 - Prusa i3 and variants
for my delta i went with a budaschnozzle v2.0 from makergeeks.com im currently working on building a prusa i3 steel and realized i dont like how the j-head hot ends i have fit in the extruder carriage. I believe the bore isnt deep enough and causes the hot end to wobble. so i thought why not go to the same budaschnozzle like i used on the delta. my question is has anyone used the chinese knockby Freebird01 - Prusa i3 and variants
well maybe i spoke to soon...i remeasured everything (delta rod seperation) and they are within .1-.2 mm.... must have been how i was holding the caliperby Freebird01 - Delta Machines
interesting....i print a 30mm cube and all the dims are only .2mm big...L,W, and H... i was printing some prusai3 parts earlier and they were way off.... bolt pattern for the motor was way small.... bores were undersized...etc...by Freebird01 - Delta Machines
im printing a 30mm test cube right now. i know my rods are parallel as i designed the end effector and the tower carriages in CAD and after measuring they are within 1mm of each other. not enough to really effect much. i will measure the rods again when the print is done. they should all be the same length as i made an assembly jig when i put the rod ends on so they were all adjusted the same andby Freebird01 - Delta Machines
is it unusual to see having to scale your parts up by 6-7% to get them to print the right size? my .stl files are all drawn in Solid Edge and are outputted at .0001 resolution...?! what gives?! "6-7% is very bad. Have you calibrated the printer axis steps/mm and extruder?" im running a delta with a duet board... essentially its a bigger version of a mini kossel. 20T pulleys driving the towerby Freebird01 - Delta Machines
i understand that...according to everything im reading 80steps/mm is what it should be given my parameters and thats what i have it set at.... if i have to adjust it up or down from there i am not sure how to figure that out.. care to shed some light on this?by Freebird01 - Slic3r

ok...this is a quirk thats really bugging me with pronterface. I have it set for circular build platform... and in slic3r my parts are in the middle of the build plate.. pronterface has them out in left field. ive done some internet searching and come to the conclusion that i should be able to update it in the settings... however those areas are gray'ed out and there is no where to adjust...by Freebird01 - Delta Machines
ive had too many issues with chinese e3d knockoffs that ive been watching that like a hawk. that hasnt been an issue. the filament is Makerbot filament...the replicator 2x we have at work doesnt like PLA at all and will only print abs reliably. so im using a roll of it in my printer.by Freebird01 - Delta Machines
