It's actually wired into the 12v aux, I already have my ramps fan wired into D9, but then I suppose, I could change the connectors around, and have the extruder fan into D9 and then the Ramps fan into the 12v aux port. But I only ever have my that fan on when there is a print running.by JamesSimpson - Controllers
Hi Guys, I have now had my all metal hot end fan in for about a week now, and printing is great, but I have my hot end fan plugged into the ramps board where it says "fan" which seems to be on permanently. I also have a fan cooling down the actual ramps board too, as it was getting really hot, and that is plugged into the spare extruder heating wires (which is controlled via geode) Now what I wby JamesSimpson - Controllers
I have tried this, and the most i can get it to stably is 200c, I usually print abs at 220, but anything over 210 and the hot end goes mental... Its nice and stable increase all the way to 200, then it just jumps 210, 230, 250, 300 and then i hit the max temp limit and it cuts off. I did the auto tune successfully for 200, but then when i try auto tune 210 and it fails with Autotune failed! Temby JamesSimpson - Controllers
Hi Guys, I have just got a new geetec all metal hot end, fitted it and started running some test. This is the hot end: I updated the firmware as there was a change in thermistor on this hot end, and now running setting "8" on the thermistor settings, as you can see in the link above, it uses a 100K NTC thermistor. Anyway, this thing heats up really quickly, and I don't know if the arduino caby JamesSimpson - Controllers
I can't figure it out, its always the solid toper layers that always mess my prints up. It is fine on the first layer, then the second layer is fine, then the third layer (before the infill) builds up a little, then the hex infill starts and evens everything out, and its perfect in this part, then the top solid layers start, again, first is perfect, second layer builds up a little, then the lasby JamesSimpson - General Mendel Topics
I know this is a little old, but I have a fan connected to D9, and there seems to be no power going to this port? Have I blown a fuse somewhere?by JamesSimpson - RAMPS Electronics
Yea those temps are a bit too high, they are temps used for ABS nearlyby JamesSimpson - General Mendel Topics
Managed to get that issue fixed now, and managed to do some calibration blocks, with some slight infill issues on the top... Any ideas? Do I have my infill set too fast?by JamesSimpson - General Mendel Topics
Hi All, Finally getting somewhere with this now, and today managed to get my first successful print (yipee). Although, I cannot get it to do the same again now thought. So to recap my earlier issues for anyone else running into the same problem, first marlin was configured to the wrong thermistor, hence reading the wrong temperature which means the temp was not correct to extrude, and the bobbedby JamesSimpson - General Mendel Topics

The second video has now uploaded, and this shows pretty much exactly what I am on about clearly. This is the extruder motor, and as you can see, it will move on its own accord for a little bit once its had some help I can't figure out whats wrong? Are the plugs wired wrong or are these the wrong motors for the machine, or is it something I have done?by JamesSimpson - General Mendel Topics
This is the first video to upload, its me trying to move the X Axis using Printrun, you can hear the motor trying to move on its own, but just makes a loud noise. If i nudge it, the x axis moves as it should, but won't move until i give it a helping handby JamesSimpson - General Mendel Topics
Hi Guys, Spent all of yesterday, and most of today building this kit I got off ebay: After looking all over the place for build instructions for the different parts (no one build manual was suitable for the whole build process). I managed to get everything in place and bolted together. The easiest part was modifying the PSU for use for the Pursa, as I have modified a few of these for other proby JamesSimpson - General Mendel Topics

That is a great post. Ideally I would like the best of both worlds. Although I've been looking into the OB1.4 and that is pretty much exactly the kinda kit I would like to build, but I can't see anyone that sells a kit with all the bits in one package, which makes me think to get a 3d printer that will let me build that and then use it's parts to donor into the new 3D printer. To be honest I'mby JamesSimpson - General
Absolutely love this kit - How much did it cost you all in roughly? Would you be selling kits of this? - I would love one for my first 3D printerby JamesSimpson - New Zealand RepRap User Group

Hi Guys, I have been reading up on loads of different models of 3D printers, from the reprap to the full fledged companies that now provide "out the box" built 3d Printers. But what gets the best quality prints? I have a feeling that companies will be cutting costs, by supplying cheaper parts which will mean a loss of quality, where as a reprap kit would be built to how ever the builders qualitby JamesSimpson - General
