QuoteTraumflug Failing which way? People that don't care about organization and don't feel any responsibility for keeping things tidy will always show up when there is universal access. (I'm not against free editing access, but things like floods of commercial links happen.) If the ones tidying up give up, or if they don't agree on what is "tidy", then the magic fails. QuoteTraumflug Forget about some sort of "social agreement" in advance. Typically tedious discussions, zero results. Just go ahead and set your marks. Others will follow magically. QuoteTraumflug You mean these linked pages don't share the same headers? I agree, these pages should do so. Yes, it looks much better now, nice work! What do you think about having some stronger norms for the top/bottom part of all wiki pages? Is enforcement of such norms wanted? The most effective would be if we imposed a restrictive template through the wiki software, but I'll be happy to staby tobben - General
I also suggest that we invent family names for groups of printers based on the shape of their frame. This is would be easy for beginners to understand, and could be used to structure typical beginner-pages like "RepRap Options" and "RepRapMachines". If other materials than thermoplastic filament becomes a logical choice for beginners, the "Print material" catergory should of course be presentedby tobben - General
For the sake of the greater good, I persuaded my wife to try to use the Wiki. It produced confusion and eventually useful input about user experience The short version The overall visual impression of the Wiki is a bit cluttered. I agree with Paul Wanamaker. Only reason I'm writing here instead of heading off to the wiki to start editing is that it just... Making the wiki really good seems overwhelmingly time consuming. I guess I have to feel more like I'm in a work group to dare starting to invest time in it. I've had problems using the wiki sometimes because it's slow or not responding at all. My printer now runs again! This is quite embarrassing. Here's what I did: Scrapped the old USB-cable got a new one. Switched power jumper to USB. Got connection in Pronterface, led flashed happily. Noticed that ground cable in 12 V supply socket was actually a bit loose/moveable. Remounted it firmly. Switchet power jumper to PSU. Printer worked perfectly. Thanks for the answer! I measured voltage between the housing of a usb-cable plugged into my new laptop and the PSU-ground. It was a 275 mV DC difference. I think this should be ok? I'm not able to make the measurmement with my old laptop's USB-port, and there might have been a grounding error there... The computer and the PSU were plugged into the same double contact with ground connectors. Theby tobben - Controllers
Hi guys! This weekend, I replaced the Melzi on my parents' Mendel. This is all I ever did to the new Melzi: Wired up Adjusted trim pots Uploaded RepRappro Marlin Connected with Pronterface Motors and hotend worked fine, but when I switched the heatbed on, I got a disconnect. I rebooted my laptop (because of software updates) and hooked the USB cable back in. That's when the CPU melted. Quiteby tobben - Controllers
Sorry for disappearing like this. Yes, samp20, that sounds like a good compromise. I'm very eager to test this out in real life now. Wow, very interesting work indeed! Using only springs/suspended counter-weight to control z-height and keep all lines tensioned seems to give really smooth motion. However, it seems expensible to lose up to one-fourth of our motor torque, just to keep them tight... I can think of two possible solutions to this A setup with a dedicated z-motor, and no springs at all. This will require the fourby tobben - Delta Machines
I think I understand what you mean. I'm planning on haveing the three xy-plane wires' anchor points close to the floor, so that they can have some damping effect on the jumbling. These three wires can collide with prints of ceirtain shapes, thats true. It will narrow the printable volume quite a bit. A pretty wide print unit/carriage will help both with getting a better angle for damping jumblinby tobben - Delta Machines
Thanks for the link! Yes, looks very much like what I had in mind I love the idea to wind the cables around screws. It could make it possible to build this printer with fishing line instead of expensive synchromesh cable. Wonderful.by tobben - Delta Machines
The "Finding a reasonable home position"-part turns out to be really easy. I will explain it in the 2d-case first, to avoid unnecessary typing. The only thing we control in this system, is the length of the three wires. Every possible combination of wire-lengths, (l0, l1, l2), corresponds to a unique point in the avilable print area (a triangle). To map a point (x', y') to the corresponding wireby tobben - Delta Machines
Om jag går miste om många intressanta diskussioner ska jag överväga, men annars tycker jag fördelarna med att hålla allt samlat på reprap.org verkar större. Ah, don't worry about other people building nice printers. Companies can mass produce hardware, but they can't mass produce skills on how to use it. Using a 3d-printer to its full potential as well as troubleshoot and repair it is complicated and hard. Look at the programmers, they never even got the chance to produce their own hardware at the beginning of the PC desktop era, but theire not partiby tobben - General Mendel Topics
Hi, about half a year ago, when I was building a frame for a Mendel, I started wondering if it was possible to design a printer that uses the inside of a house as its frame? I haven't been able to get the idea out of my head, so I thought I might as well try to build one. What if we could just skip arms, smooth rods and frames, and just use wires instead?
