Theres an easy fix here marlin won't compile with arduino1.0. Downgrading to arduino0023 compiles successfully. I haven't tested this on the gen6 board yet though Peteby pete-theobald - Firmware - mainstream and related support
Hi Sicarius, I just tried to compile the new firmware but i'm having problems. I tried the marlin1.0 downlaod from mendel-parts and also from the marlin github but i'm getting errors on both. His forum was online a couple of days ago but full of spam so i'm guessing hes been hacked. He was running the site on a standard ecommerce platform and the forum on phopb3 which has a long history of security problems. I hope for other peoples sake (I bought an orca 3 through paypal which was received and does actually print) that his email hasn't been hacked as well, though at least somebody woby pete-theobald - General
I'm still having problems on ubuntu. I can definitely communicate with the gen6 board. Setting the temp works and home works. Basicaly any individual commands work but trying to print a part fails very quickly (If i'm lucky it finishes printing the outline). My mistake, Just enabled public view to the source so you can find the files. The gitweb url is and you can pull the repository from there.by pete-theobald - General
I'll add the link to my git repository here as well. My setup is at . Its working for me and prints relatively well. One word of warning, skeinforge saves its settings in the users home directory so you won't have my actual skeinforge settings. Peteby pete-theobald - General
Hi Soeren, I didn't get any problems compiling the mendel-parts firmware on en6 deluxe. You can find my hole setup at . It works as is on windows so you could just pull it in from the git repository. I checked the mendel-parts blog and Camiel hasn't even promised to update the firmware. The gen6 deluxe page syas hes going to release new pictures but thats from december. Not someone I can be botheby pete-theobald - Firmware - mainstream and related support
I figured out the problem and its a very difficult one to find. The FTDI drivers under linux only support a few baud rates. The windows drivers support a much greater range. The firmware on mendel-parts is set to 250000 and the FTDI driver silently rejects it. To fix it you need to change the baud rate in configuration.h to the baud rate you need and upload it. You need to press reset on the boarby pete-theobald - RepRap Host
Hi Soren, I wouldn't wait for mendel-parts to put anything up, it regularly takes weeks for anything actually turn up. I have the gen6 deluxe working using the existing firmware and its fine. Download it from mendel-parts and it should just work on windows. Don't try and connect the heated bed as it isn't supported by the firmare, just connect the power supply directly to the heater resistors. Yoby pete-theobald - General
Hi Everyone, I just started reading an article about 5axis milling and it got me thinking . the article suggest that there is a choice between 3d printing and machining. As i see it, printing is pretty good but lacks absolute precision and you always get some rippling in the surface but generally its good. Milling needs a lot more material but can be much more accurate as you don't have moten plaby pete-theobald - General
Hi Geraldine, I got the gen6 firmware to work on windows using the software download on the mendel-parts site. The configuration works for most of it, but the heated bed definitely does not and its a new addition to the deluxe version. Few things that may help Marlin I don't think that the gen6 board comes with software installed. You need to install this first. The process is basically as follby pete-theobald - Firmware - mainstream and related support
I don't agree and i'm seeing some disturbing messages on the mendel parts site as well as no design files for the new orca 0.4 which should be released if its GPL licensed. My orca 0.3 is definitely based on the GPL'd mendel. I think the gen6 deluxe electronics are a completely new design so it doesnt need the files to be released, but it would help to have a manual for the thing so I can get theby pete-theobald - General
I'm guessing there wopn;t be any proper support coming from mendel-parts. Camiels just posted a pretty unhelpful statement QuoteAlso we are a webshop, that means no pickup anymore, no coming by for chatting (during week) etc, its very simple: from the past we have learned this just takes up hours of time everyday, which we dont have. Hi Everyone, I'm trying to get the mendel-parts gen6 deluxe electronics working in ubuntu. It works fine under windows 7 but its failing on two different ubuntu machines. I definitely have access to the serial port and the same erors happening if I run pronterface as root and also if I chmod the usb serial port to 0777. Whenever I try to connect, I get an exception from pyserial. This is the outby pete-theobald - RepRap Host
My electronics are identical to this board I worked out the wiring by looking at the PCB but it needs updating. I'm sure the issue is in firmware. Pronterface has a bar graph for the bed temperature but it doesnt turn the bed power on. It doesnt read the thermistor temp back either and it is definitely connected and has a voltage across it. Hi Everyone, I had a few ideas for improving the heated bed in my printer and I thought I'd share them and see what other people think. I have an orca and the aluminium bed is slightly warped at the moment and its about 0.2mm lower on two opposite corners. I added a glass plate to it using silicon adhesive and its pretty flat now but not perfect. I had two ideas 1. Use a precision ground pieceby pete-theobald - Printing
Thanks Traumflag. I wish it was that simple. I think i have it wired up correctly but I think the issue is in firmware. Pronterface isn't showing the heated bed temperature even though i've got the thermistor connected. I found a couple of references in the firmware from the mendel-parts site that refer to the bed heater but activating them all didn't change anything. There aren't any M codes forby pete-theobald - Firmware - mainstream and related support
Hi everyone, I'm trying to get the heated bed on the gen6 deluxe from mendel-parts. The board has a 4 pin connection for the heated bed but theres no documentation so i've had to do a bit of guesswork to figure out how to wire it up. The thermistor has 5v across it and this remains when I unplug the second power supply so I think i've got this in the right place. Hi Everyone, I just noticed something very disturbing on the mendel-parts site . In case it gets taken down i've copied the relevant part which is at the bottom of the page on the MP site. well I know hes been working on the linear bearings for the orca instead of delivering the kit I paid him for at the beginning of november and i'm not fussed about keeping quiet about it. I think the same happened when he released the orca 3. He hadn't finished shipping orca 2s that had been paid for when he released the 3. Still nothing. Camiel posted on his blog on the 29th saying that he'd have everything shipped by the end of that day. JHB received a delivery note, I haven't yet! Theres also a note saying that theres some exciting news from mendel-parts. I'm assuming that means hes spending all his time designing his orca4 and not working on the orders hes been paid upfront for! I will be very annoyed if he releby pete-theobald - General

I saw that note on the mendel parts blog earlier but i'm not holding my breath. No notification that anythings been sent yet so as far as i'm concerned i'm still waiting. Its good to see that hes considering some form of stock control though! Selling 200 orcas without being geared up to make them is just stupid. peteby pete-theobald - General
Based on my experience of the last week I would suggest avoiding any contact at all costs. I've spoken to Camiel 3 times in the last 10 days or so and each time hes said my orca is going to be shipped in the next few days. I think hes ignoring the phone now (i've been calling him pretty much continuously for a couple of hours today so i'm guessing hes turned the speaker off). Just to add to this. I was wondering if these could be used instead of a hobbed bolt . You could either thread the motor shaft to M5 (I'm guessing that would be hard work!) or build some sort of connector. They could be soldered onto an M5 brass nut pretty easily and then coupled to the motor output shaft, maybe even using a moulded coupler. Thoughts? I've seen the bulk cost at £22/1000 so a veryby pete-theobald - General
I'm sure I saw something about them being made by an engineering company. Its just a properly made version of the hobbed bolt so i'd guess you'd need to get someone to make them for you. I'd guess they're pretty cheap to have made in reasonable volumes. Best feature i'd like to see on an orca is delivery. If it actually gets to my door i'll be over the moon! Good luck with the business. Peteby pete-theobald - General
Has anybody heard from mendel parts lately. I'm waiting for an orca 3 ordered at the start of november. I've posted on the forum and emailed him but heard nothing back and his last blog post only said he'd ship all of octobers orders in the following few days. Theres plenty of scope to be hopeful but I suspect hes waiting for an order of some important part and he might be being a bit economicalby pete-theobald - General
