I've been using the same roll of PET tape for about half a year or so ..and it works better than kapton tape IMHO .. the green PET tapeby noobcake - General
do you have a 4th axis on that cnc? how did you do all the weird perpendicular holes if you don't? That must have been a lot of work if your CNC (from that pic) only has 3 axis? 0.0' good job!by noobcake - Plastic RepRap Parts for Sale
--- nvm now. can an admin delete this pls? I don't need it anymore... I'm going to try making it myselfby noobcake - Job Shop: I need stuff made!
Wow, I just read (then skimmed eventually) this whole thread and ...WOW! Good job keeping at it! That really sounded frustrating at around page 12...I'm glad you finally are making parts! You deserve it! ^__^by noobcake - Reprappers
To nophead: Quotehttp://blog.makerbot.com/2010/09/01/how-good-can-a-makerbot-printed-object-look/ ah cool ok. I never even heard of plastidip...thanks! so, he dipped it in watered down acetone and then used abs cement and grinded it with a dremel and then used some Plastidip to make it look uniform...amazing result! lots of work but I'm encouraged that we don't have to settle for this : Toby noobcake - General
I am wondering if anybody out there has a good/unique way that they clean up or post process their plastic parts, that they will share? I mean to flatten (or round/shape) the parts after they are printed... beyond just the knife/x-acto... Does anybody clean their parts up with a grinding wheel? or a dremel or a heat gun or something? Iron? sand paper? How about jig it up into a subtractive CNCby noobcake - General
Thanks! I did that and then it got to about 60C then I added another one in parallel and it got to 74C or so... I don't think that makerbot psu can do this now...I already just ordered another psu from amazon, it is 500w and says it can do 12v 25A when it gets here I will just power the heater with it and maybe a LCD, LED, Arduino, thermistor, etc. but mainly just heater stuff not the motors orby noobcake - General
Does anybody know what the resistance(Ohms) should be for a 12in x 12in copper pcb traced heater platform should be? using 12v psu from makerbot (12v 11A, 400watt max) I just tried today, and made a pattern and engraved it on a 12in x 12in pcb and it came out just like I was hoping at 3ohms (3.3 ohms or so really) and I thought that I needed 2-3 ohms resistance but then I hooked it up directly tby noobcake - General
I'm almost done with it. I just have to wait for a piece from mcmaster carr because my original z design had to be changed xD But It does work and should be completely done soon. I'm not sure about the heated platform though. I am going to try the engraving a pcb method...and if that doesn't work I'll have to get some ni-chrome wire I guess...but either way it'll be done soon Here is a pic ofby noobcake - General New Machines Topics
"old title: can I post pics of my repstrap in this forum? can I? " Ok, thanks! I'll change the title this will be my picture log of my repstrap v1. After it is done hopefully within a few weeks, I plan on making another one which should be completed faster and possibly change something and I'll fully document the next one and maybe make an instructable or something. So, this is just my firstby noobcake - General New Machines Topics
Well, I ripped apart my makerbot and started on my repstrap already ^__^ I am kind of limited in space and I can't make it as huge as I first was going to...so after $150 more of supplies... I am now shooting for a 1' cubed build volume area. here is it's progress so far....that is the x axis. I am going with a sliding bed gantry style.... the good thing about additive is there are almost noby noobcake - General

Yesterday I increased the size of my heated build platform (10mm on all sides) on my Makerbot with a piece of polycarbonate...it works great! I scuffed it up a lot and put on some PET tape (green) that Spacexula told me about. I then applied 2 layers of PET tape ontop of the polycarbonate (which is .93" Lexan) a sandpapered that a lot too...and I can now print Wade's Geared block and it snaps offby noobcake - General
Hi, anybody know if there is a repstrap that has a bigger actual printing work area larger than Mendel? Mendel is I guess 200mm x 200mm x 140mm right? I am about to convert my makerbot finally to a repstrap and while I'm at it I was planning on making the build area huge... just because I can. Would a 16in. (406.4mm) x 10in (254mm) x 10in (254mm) be the biggest repstrap work area to date? Thanby noobcake - General
Thank you SOOOOOO much Spacexula! With your unbelievably generous help I can see maybe where my Makerbot works now I am not selling it now and no longer giving up on it....thanks to Spacexula the nicest person in any forum ever! ^__^ I don't know if I can post pictures in here but I'll try Thanks all!by noobcake - General
If you're serious I'll be putting it up on ebay probably within 3 weeks...if I can't make it better myself. I have a working machine I like using I've had enough headaches with the Makerbot. Offer me say $700.00 right now and if you are serious I won't even try to work on it. I also installed the heated platform v2 and some LEDs and a fan that sucks air off the extruder pcb...and I added velcroby noobcake - General
Thanks for your suggestions all. Well, I'm going to modify my makerbot and see if that works (my second option) ...I bought a linear rod tonight at Lowes that I will cut in half and change the Z-axis out. If that doesn't work....I already have a design in my head that I will model if just changing the Z-axis isn't enough. I didn't really just randomly change the settings xD I followed every wiki and tutorial on skeinforge i found...can you please tell me of some that has helped you that I didn't find? Thanks fr the reply!by noobcake - General
I bought a Makerbot "Cupcake" kit a couple months ago for the purpose of being a (what I thought at the time) an easy RepStrap.... This was in the middle of playing/learning with my other CNC machine a 3-Axis Gantry Router style subtractive CNC.... and I went a little CNC happy xD (also bought a Cricut...) Anyways, I assembled the Makerbot and also bought and installed the heated build platforby noobcake - General
