Why is fire cement needed over the insulated nichrome wire in the ThermoplastExtruder 2.0 design ?

You need something to keep the wire in place that will stand the heat. Nichrome expands when it gets hot, so it will not stay tight.
Makerbot use Kapton tape instead.
