Ok Price reduction starts as follows: 1. Plan on reusing the electronics and stepper motors on the darwin after completing the parts for it. (save $75.00 + elecronics from above) 2. Use the Plywood and see if you can find some 1/4 inch plastic from some friends ( save $75.00+ as listed from above). 3. The extruder can be used on both the Seedling and Darwin units (no cost reduction but youby bobt - General
Quote from Joshua Merchant: Is that smiley a guy with a toothbrush? I thought it was a guy with one of those plastic things you blow into to make that duck-like noise at wacky parties. So my intent was to "celebrate" the knowledge with the smiley... but if it's a toothbrush, that's just weird. Erik - Here is your favorite project and it is just going commercial. Look at the SunCatcher technology item. I have been following this company for about 10 years. They have the right idea but its does have its limits. I am traveling down a different path to achieve the same results.by bobt - Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)

And here is the legal info on "FDM" Trademark for any that care. And here is a second "FDM" Trademark item that is specific to what RepRap is and does. And that should put an end to this discussion about if we can use this term about the RepRap project.by bobt - General

Here is a place that supplies reflective film. I have purchased from them and they supply quality product and very quick service. This is a company I dealt with back in my solar days. Your mileage will vary.by bobt - Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)

Bruce - Looks good. Just a couple of items: Slide 17 - fix picture location overlaps text Slide 18 - fix picture location overlaps text Other than that I looks GREAT!!!!!!!!by bobt - Reprappers
I purchased 3 from Zach. They are really nice and easy to use. It will be well worth the wait for them. I just check the RRRF site. He has 0 pcb's for this but it appears that their are 10 kits available for $20.00 each. So parts only cost an additional $10.00 and everything comes in 1 package.by bobt - General
Victor - I just pulled down the software for the Arduino Single processor system and looked thru the code to find Single_Arduino_SNAP.pde and it listed the digital I/O pin assignments. Just for the record in the Single Arduino drawing on the Seedling Electronics page. The Stepper motor shown at the bottom is the X Driver, the middle one is the Y Driver and the top one is the Z driver. Now if wby bobt - Controllers
Where is the downloadable code for the g-code for the arduino and the other modules that are required to make the g-code based RepStrap "Seedling" operate. Sorry I can't spell or think straight again. Bob Teeterby bobt - RepRap Host
I have constructed the Arduino Electronics and have pretty well finished my Seedling construction. Now I need to connect everything together. My question is using the direction signal to each of the stepper motor boards which connection is the X-axis, the Y-axis and the Z-axis. It would be a real pain just to wire them up like the schematic says and have the wrong configuration and have to staby bobt - Controllers

Viktor - The only problem I see with all these items is even if you can get to the one nanometer resolution. You cannot make an item that is 12 inches cube or 300 mm cube with them. The story does relate that a slightly larger unit was created that was mounted on wheels that ran around the outside barrier of the town making additional houses each in about 10 seconds with complete interiors. Gentlemen - If you are looking for one of the first and specific versions of RepRap then you need to read "Venus Equilateral" by George O. Smith copyrighted in 1942. In the short story called "Special Delivery" he talks about the problem of replication using electronic beams to removing and replacing atoms on an atom by atom basis. The suggestion of using mechanical alignment was brought up andby bobt - General
Guys - I have a Gingery Foundry and am working on a Gingery Lathe at this time. Here is what I have done so far: As you can see it can be done very easily. Just some work in the shop. And yes working with hot metal has some danger in it. Working with 1100 degree F metal has some danger in it but if you follow some simple rules you will not be injured. But just think about this I can wake uby bobt - General

Bruce - have you seen the video from Jay Leno's garage about his Doble and Stanly steamer cars? I also have links to the Doble blueprints from the museum in California. Thank you for the Google patent site info. It has help isolate and correct some of the information that has been needed on several of my projects. It is by all means clear and complete with the first patents being from about 1802. Talk about holding a background in our industrial revolution.by bobt - General
No - G-code is a information format definition that the CNC industry uses to control a tool head. Move this direction, this fast, this axis. It is a specification of how to place a tool from one location to another. To get diagonal movement it is just like a multi-tasking computer it just does one thing just each one very fast. For those of you that worry about how to make your RepRap/RepStrap create a precise parts. You may want to take a look at this information. "Volumetric Compensation" was brought to my attention because of another product that I use for Wood Working. The "eCabinet System" uses a Thermwood CNC router system for making precision wood parts. Please note that the leftover glycerin from biodiesel can be used as a de-watering agent for an alcohol still. After processing your mash and having the system output 160 proof alcohol. You then can bubble the vapor through a vat of glycerin and remove the rest of the water and get about 194 proof alcohol. For those of you that are building an McWire "Seedling". One large word of caution. The Bill of Materials call for galvanized pipe to be used. USE IT. In my haste to get started the local Ace Hardware did not have any 12" galvanized pipe so I got some black pipe instead. Wrong thing to do. Here is a picture of the pipes with one hole in it and it ate 7 screws after drilling the hole. 2 scrby bobt - Mechanics
How about using a magnetic degree gage. Real cheap from Ace Hardware. And you can tell if it is off by even 1/10 of 1 degree visually. The frame is setting on a table saw. Table saw is horizontally flat by gage. The frame is aligned to the flat table surface and the horizontal pipe is aligned for zero pitch. That should be straight enough to fix it so that it can be tack welded to shape.by bobt - Mechanics
