Another quick update. I got bored inside and came out to tinker. Got all the axes fitted and belted. Then hooked up the Techzone electronics set I'd made up on a thick sheet before and got the X-axis working!!!!!!!by CraigRK - Reprappers
Hi, I've spent most of the day on the Mendel (as blogged) and now have frame sans Y-axis, but all Y-axis bits ready for installation having made Nophead's froglet out of Dibond. Craigby CraigRK - Reprappers
Nudel, Thanks for the suggestion. I was thinking of using the Dibond as I still have a number of sheets left over. Craigby CraigRK - Reprappers
The Mendel assembly is coming on apace. I've not been sticking religiously to the script, so tend to find myself running out of parts. e.g. I have been assembling the Z & Y-axes today, but don't have the thick or thin plates yet so can't finish. So tomorrow morning I'll be tackling the thick plates... Enjoy! Craigby CraigRK - Reprappers
As blogged, the ScrapScrap is Scrapped. I just wasn't getting the time to work out the kinks and I really want to move on with the project, so I invested in some RP parts (already having everything else) and have started assembly of a Mendel. (All detailed on my Blog) Craigby CraigRK - Reprappers
Hi all, I still have some of these available if anyone wants. Craigby CraigRK - For Sale
Ok, guess I'll figure out GitHub instead then and wait. I appreciate the benefits of the openness, and also the control that caused the initial core vs user trade off. For my sins, my day job is to manage a software development team. Just a small one, 5 (no actually 6, wait that'll be 7 soon) members. The biggest challenge I have is in ensuring that changes people made are documented AND requby CraigRK - RepRap Host
Hi, Thanks for details, I'll figure out the Subversion story. As I understand it the "svn log" will contains the details of changes as it is a change management system, but this will not necessarily indicate something was changed unless the author added comments to code, right? Thanks, Craigby CraigRK - RepRap Host
That looks fantastic. Keeping my fingers crossed that it works well. Glad there was enough PEEK. Craigby CraigRK - General
Hi all, I noticed yesterday that new RepRap host (& I assume firmware) was committed to SourceForge. While I realise that I can (and have) subscribe to an RSS feed about deposits. What I was wondering about is where do the authors keep the change log and notes on what was done? I am sure it exists, but all my searching has been in vein. I thought this forum might be a suitable place, butby CraigRK - RepRap Host
David, I've managed to spend a bit more time looking at this. I reprogrammed the firmware in the motherboard, but to no avail. I then started messing around a bit and eventually got it to return the EB message in a loop. At this point I had the extruder wires disconnected from the motherboard completely so started connecting them up one by one and the problem re-occurred, but not in a consistby CraigRK - Controllers
Hi, I'm guessing that your buildings will be hollow. If the is the case then I would assume that while there will still be time issues, the actual 'running length' printed (i.e. extruded) will not scale in ratio from the current mendel parts. A mendel part has infill (of some amount) which takes time to print and could be reduced for this consideration. As for the heating, would the 'heated rby CraigRK - Reprappers
Hi David, Thanks for the clarification. Seems to be a problem then, as I definitely get not temp reading. Should I be expected it to loop (i.e. constantly trying to get a reading)? I will try to reprogram the firmware again and see what happens then. Thanks, Craigby CraigRK - Controllers
Hi, Never got a temp reading that I noticed. Should I disconnect the Extruder controller totally (i.e. disconnect wires, not only power it off) and try again? I would have thought that if the power was off it would have no influence. Thanks, Craigby CraigRK - Controllers
Hi all, I am at the point of running through the tests on my electronics (this page on the wiki). (I'm running Tech Zone Remix boards) The motherboard seemed happy, so I moved on to "Testing an Extruder Controller". When the power is off, I get the following: C:\Misc\Reprap>java -cp ".\reprap.jar;.\RXTXcomm.jar;.\j3dcore.jar;.\j3d-org-jav a3d-all.jar;.\j3dutils.jar;.\swing-layout-1.0.3.jby CraigRK - Controllers
Me again... Making slow but sure progress on the ScrapStrap. I have been connecting up my TechZone electronics. I detailed the process step by step in case I need to repeat it in the future. I hope to update the wiki HowTo later as well. On the side I tried to make a barrel/nozzle on my lathee and failed miserably (not blogged yet), so ordered different materials and will be trying again sooby CraigRK - Reprappers
Hi, Me again. I'm busy programming my extruder controller (eventually, yeah I know, I'm taking my time). Anyway, I bought the B57560G104F recommended above. From what I can make out, the standard table in the latest firmware (20100702) seems to match. It is described however as RS Thermistor 528-8592, which comes back as B57540G0104J. Can anyone confirm of the table is the same? Or if not,by CraigRK - Controllers

It's nice to see the community coming through on this one. Good one spacexula!! I just saw this thread and have read it all, my thoughts were that it is quite ambitious trying to get ones head around 3 projects at the same time. (CNC, Cupcake & Cricut), even though they are similar. I have found that while building my ScrapStrap, all other projects have come to grinding halt, and I stillby CraigRK - General
Thanks Nophead, Thought you'd reply. Based on your advice I might well stay away from that for the first attempt. I've not even finished sorting out my electronics, let alone started making an extruder. It seems strange that non seems to be available in this country as it does seem to be used for plastic welding. I can't believe that everyone in this country is using the sticks and filamentby CraigRK - Wanted
Hi all, Where are the UK guys getting their filament (at decent prices) these days. I've been reading lots of forum posts and blogs and getting my head in a spin. I don't really want to spent a fortune (and wait ages) for US shipping, but will if that's the best option. Thanks, craigby CraigRK - Wanted
The ScrapStrap cartesian bot is complete. I have tested the motion using some stepper drivers I had from a previous CNC project and Mach3. I may need to change the tensioning spring on the Z-axis drive to a bolt, but other than that all is well. I have moved on to the electronics now. I bought a Tech Zone Remix set (sans PSU due to shipping costs). Today I started blogging about setting thesby CraigRK - Reprappers
All the axes now have their drive mechanisms. The next step is fixing the Gantry in place. I have also updated my blog to fix the reference of which axis is which. Craigby CraigRK - Reprappers
Shipped to the USA today....by CraigRK - For Sale
Hi all, I still have lots more of these. So far shipped to the UK and Norway, still waiting for the buyers to complete and post details on their beds. I will be making my own when I have completed my ScrapStrap Craigby CraigRK - For Sale
Brian, Good to see that you are continuing to try to improve your offering and taking note of issues when reported. if only all producers took things as seriously. It's not as if you could even be coming closer to making a living out of these parts, yet you approach it in a very professional manner. Good work! I've been reading all this with interest as I hope to make my own parts (having aby CraigRK - For Sale
I've made a small amount of progress tonight with adding a salvaged belt drive to the X-axis (I noticed that some refer to the lower axis as Y, but I have it in my head as X, sorry). I have also identified some parts for the Y & Z as previously noted, pictures on my blog...by CraigRK - Reprappers
Terry, That seems pretty quick since your complaint. Were the goods on their way already? Anyway, glad you're sorted and that you're taking the time to let us know. So often people complain in public, but don't come back and let people know when the issues are resolved. Good luck with the build. Craigby CraigRK - For Sale
