syringes have alot of possibilities and capabilities that are very intriguing. so, i ordered a bunch of them online. they're actually really cheap, since they are intended to be used once, then disposed. that is great for us... because we can get a good deal. i ordered a variety of sizes of actual syringes, and a variety of sizes of needles. from 1mm down to like .25mm which should give someby ZachHoeken - General
this is exactly why its so critical for us to get v1.0 done and out the door to people who have ideas like yours. i've seen tons of ideas on this board that are fantastic, but unfortunately until you have a machine in front of you its pretty much impossible to test it. anyway, good idea, and i wish we could send you a machine to test it on =)by ZachHoeken - General
cool. i'll add this to the wiki somewhere.by ZachHoeken - General
both yes and no. as forrest pointed out, we are not mimicking their deposition technique. however, we are aiming to build a 3d printer which is what that machine does. other than that, the major differences are that we are open source, ours costs a tiny fraction of what that machine costs, and this is the kicker: that we're designing the machine with the goal of it being able to fabricate itsby ZachHoeken - General
yeah, its quite speedy now. good stuff =)by ZachHoeken - General
i've noticed its a bit slow too... i'll send a message to simon and see what kind of hardware its on. i have a nice server we could probably run it from if thats turns out to be the problem.by ZachHoeken - General
thats the way it should be! //commandline warrior =) ~Zach On 3/1/07, Vik Olliver wrote: > On Thu, 2007-03-01 at 11:13 +0000, Adrian Bowyer wrote: > > No - but then I haven't (re)installed Subclipse for a while. very nice. it would also be nice if we could get some sort of flickr / html stuff going too... thats where i store all my images and its a pain to re-upload stuff everywhere when i could just link to it directly.by ZachHoeken - General
We have a couple people who are interested in helping out with the Wiki. Unfortunately we disabled user registrations due to spamming. Could someone point me in the direction of how to administer that. I can try and find a solution and/or just manually add people as needed. Hey Guys, I finally bit the bullet and learned Kicad. Its really not too bad once you play around with it for a while. Anyway, I wrote up a list of things I'm going to try on the builders blog. If you'd like to look over it and make suggestions, that would be great. I'm thinking about making the board bigger. Its pretty small as-is and since we're doing this by hand that can cause problems.by ZachHoeken - Developers
sure... what command do you use to load firmware with that. okay, i got my olimex programmer and i've compiled picp. how do i flash the PIC chip? i cant get gpicp to compile, so i guess i'm doing this from the command line. theres nothing in the wiki about this. i dont need a technical explanation... just tell me what command to type at the shell. =) ~Zach _______________________________________________ Developers mailing list Deve&by ZachHoeken - Developers
oh, i've used FeCl before... thats how i made my last boards. i ran out of it though and had to re-order. this time i went for a larger shipment. also... please let me know if i got the right motors. i dont see anything on that url i linked to about voltage. the wiki should point to the motor that people will use from here on out, not what was used in the past. ~Zach On 2/27/07, Adrian Bowby ZachHoeken - Developers
i got the one linked from the wiki: is this the correct one? i sure hope so. if not, please let me know because that info needs to be correct... ~Zach On 2/27/07, Forrest Higgs wrote: > > Which Solarbotics gearmotor did you get for the extruder? no worries on the extruder... by 'final' i mean the final shipment needed for the comms + 3 stepper boards. i wasnt sure what i needed for the extruder one yet. i imagine i'll be making many more orders to mouser. also... today has been a great day! i just got a nice late-night purchase i had forgotten about: 11lbs of ferric chloride. i'm SOOO ready to start trying to make boards w/ reprap.by ZachHoeken - Developers
RepRap.org Its kind of a big deal. lol... some of these could come off as being snooty if they arent said out loud.by ZachHoeken - General
well if it was in a syringe... it would be pretty easy to just cover the syringe in electrical tape. then the 'reservoir' would just be whatever opaque container the stuff came in. the exposure to UV light would probably be pretty minimal. stick around... once you get a machine you should definitely try this.by ZachHoeken - Polymer Working Group
i just got my final shipment from mouser, my solarbotics motors, and my nichrome wire. this is going to be an exciting week. ~Zach _______________________________________________ Developers mailing list Developers@reprap.orgby ZachHoeken - Developers
i can talk to a couple graphic designer friends here at work and see if they'd be interested in making a nice design for it. that would be pretty cool.by ZachHoeken - General
how are these attached to the circuit board? do they use the 2.54mm pitch connectors? no problems. is the new design for powercomms in svn? honestly though, it shouldn't be that much of a change in the wiki. it just means we have to take more pictures and put them in the right places. all the components are the same... just a different layout. i got my HDPE i ordered from villageplastics.com at $3.50/lb it was a pretty good deal. It comes in 5lb coils, and looks to be of pretty good quality. check out myby ZachHoeken - General
this is definitely an interesting area to explore. once we get v1 of the reprap machine out to the general public, you should definitely get one and start experimenting with these polymers. unfortunately it does seem like they're a bit pricey, that was $25 / lb right? right now we're looking at HDPE, ABS, and other thermoplastics which are from $3-$6 / lb. who knows though, maybe this could wby ZachHoeken - Polymer Working Group

yeah, i was dismantling a PC the other day and they use those extensively. i think i'm going to write up a guide on harvesting parts from PC's and other electronics once I get some time. any idea what those things are called so i can lookup mouser part #s? Hi Nathan, I've been taking to storing all the supplier information i've gathered on the wiki. It's a bit sparse, but this page has all the info on stepper motors: I dont know exactly what size motors you need. I got some nema 17's and a 23 for testing purposes. If you can swing it, i'd suggest getting one of both for testing and then once you know what size you need, then get more of it toby ZachHoeken - General
you may want to come up with a different name other than the Mk 2.1. the 2.1 has a connotation of being only an incremental change that is compatible with the previous version. if its not compatible with the controller board, then its definitely not a v2. its fine that you're using the mk2 as a stepping stone, but we dont want people getting confused because they thought yours was going to workby ZachHoeken - Developers
