I've not used BatchPCB, but the files needed should already be in the reprap-mendel-20100308.zip release file, under mendel/electronics/ (or you can get them from svn, but nothing in those directories (for the Gen3 electronics) has been changed since the 20100308 release). The software used for designing these boards was the free (closed source, free as in beer) version of Eagle, which runs fineby jmarsden - General
Thanks. OK, the embedded_images module is now turned off completely, until someone has the time to figure out why it is breaking.by jmarsden - Administration, Announcements, Policy
QuoteMarkus Hitter ... there's a "Motor Driver History" box right at the top of the article. A list with the available versions and a pair of previous/next buttons. OK, thanks. Now I understand. I think the first issue is that the 1.1 page was not named using the same convention as all the others (1_1 instead of 1.1 at the end of its name). I just moved it so it matches the rest of the Steppeby jmarsden - Administration, Announcements, Policy
QuoteAgeingHippy can you point me to some documentation on the wiki which will specify minimum modifications need doing and how to use them with Mendel? Not really; I doubt any documentation of the minimum mods exists. If you understand the electronics enough to read a schematic, you can check what parts on the board use the 3.3V supply rail easily enough by eye (that's what I did before postinby jmarsden - Controllers
I'm leaving the embedded_images module mostly disabled for now. It seems to cause the embedded links you can create using the embedded_attachments module to "disappear", instead of displaying them inline... not exactly desired behaviour.by jmarsden - Administration, Announcements, Policy
But the second one seems to break things... hmm. More testing needed.by jmarsden - Administration, Announcements, Policy
I tried adding those modules... testing... OK, the first one works fine.by jmarsden - Administration, Announcements, Policy
Those extensions look like they should work. I'd prefer people used the forums for short term epemeral, and put more complex documents (including those containing images) on the wiki. But that's personal preference. If the modules are easy to install, I'll install themby jmarsden - Administration, Announcements, Policy
My Sent Items has many messages in it... you do have to click that "Keep a copy" button, as Seb says, if you want to keep a copy, but PMs really do seem to work as advertized (for me, at least).by jmarsden - Administration, Announcements, Policy
(1) Editing a wiki page, even a large and complex one, should not generally need a wiki admin to be involved. What exactly are you having difficulty doing? Can you be more specific about the problem? "The (more pretty) history" is a little vague as a wiki concept... I am not sure if your question is "How do I make Mediawiki do X?", or "Mediawiki seems to be formatting Y incorrectly, it's manuby jmarsden - Administration, Announcements, Policy
OK. Let us know how it goes. That's an interesting cost trade-off you seem to be making: the usbtinyisp kit is selling for US$22, which is more than the cost of a USB to serial TTL cable or board (you should be able to use the Sparkfun boards which are around US$15, for example). If you have a usbtinyisp already, but no usb-to-TTL converter, then using the already-paid-for usbtinyisp is goingby jmarsden - Sanguino(lolu)
Glad to help. QuoteTony PhanHow should I test the firmware with the boards and the host software, without having the hardware (motors, extruder…) assembled? That's a good question to be asking. I'm not an expert on testing Gen3 electronics (I don't have a set of them myself!). Here are some ideas: Talking to them 'manually' by typing GCode at them over the USB-to-TTL connection using a seriby jmarsden - Sanguino(lolu)
It should be possible. Since you (apparently) have the board and the usbtinyisp, try it, and then please tell the rest of us if it works I think most Reprappers are likely to find it more convenient to avoid connecting an ISP programmer to try out new Reprap firmware, change steps/mm parameters, etc. Once you have a bootloader in place, it's just simpler to program it over the same USB-to-serby jmarsden - Sanguino(lolu)
I can confirm the issue loading this STL file into the current reprap host software. Running it through one of the mesh fixup software tools (netfabb? I forget the name) might help? I'm guessing that those who printed this file must have used Skeinforge or some other host software, rather than the reprap.org host code.by jmarsden - RepRap Host
I'm one of those old-timers I have a set of Gen 1 electronics that used to work. From memory, the Stepper Exerciser was, if I am not mistaken, more or less equivalent to the XYZ panel of the current host software. It's just a little GUI for moving the bot mechanism around under host software control, for testing, basically. There should be no need to find years-old versions of the host softwby jmarsden - RepRap Host
The current release of the Sanguino definition files, Sanguino-0018r1_1_4.zip , appears to include the needed main.cpp file. Could those who encountered this issue please let us know what revision of the Sanguino files they were (or are) using? Thanks!by jmarsden - RepRap Host
Either way should work fine, editing your properties using the GUI or using a text editor is a matter of preference. Being a bit old fashioned and command-line oriented, I tend to edit it as a text file (and sometimes keep old files called reprap.properties.20080203 around "just in case", too)! Being able to compare your setup to how it was at some earlier date can be handy. Therefore, as Iby jmarsden - RepRap Host
QuoteTom Frisch The instructions say to change the port() in reprap.properties.dist Where do the instructions say that? Editing reprap, properties is fine, editing reprap.properties.dist is not. The reprap.properties file is stored wherever the Java implementation you are using thinks such application data should be stored. Using the Preferences tab of the Control Panel is one way to edit thisby jmarsden - RepRap Host
Taylor: You should find a reprap.properties file in ~/.reprap/ after running the host software for the first time. If you do not see it there, search for it, maybe OS X puts it in a different location? You can edit this file to ask the RepRap host software to use a different serial port (and to configure lots of other things, too!). See Java_Software_Preferences_File for more about that file.by jmarsden - RepRap Host
I'd check all the power wiring and grounding really carefully if I saw serial comms errors like that.by jmarsden - RepRap Host
Getting the relevant 64bit Java libraries, and persuading java to use them with the RepRap host software, really should work. I have done this on 64bit Ubuntu just fine (I should add the info to the wiki, and post a message on the forums pointing to it). I don't currently have easy access to a 64bit Windows machine, unless we count servers at work, which I shouldn't use for RepRap experimentsby jmarsden - RepRap Host
Quotemm does anyone know how to permanently change permissions for /dev/ttyUSB0. Mine keep reverting back. Don't do that. Just add your user to the dialout group so you have appropriate permissions on the device. I suspect, but have not fully confirmed, that whatever sitename you use when you log in, that is the name set in your login cookie. After that, whenever you use that name for forum pages all is well, but when you use the other one, you appear to be logged out, because you have no logon cookie for *that* sitename. I'm not sure that you can upload images to the forum system. You can, however, upload the images to some web server somewhere, and then put the URL to it between the img tags. If you prefer to buy kits, so avoiding the need to source individual components, you can get RepRap Opto Endstop v2.1 kits from ultimachine.com (and very probably from other places too). I have no knowledge of the github extruder firmware (yet?). Do check that you have connected the USB/TTL cable the right way around -- on the Gen3 boards in the reprap.org svn, the serial wiring connections on the motherboard are the opposite of the serial wiring connections on the extruder board, so you have to turn the cable connector the other way up when connecting it to the extruder board.by jmarsden - Firmware - mainstream and related support
I can confirm this issue, and I seem to have found a solution. There appears to be a bug in arduino 0018 that basically means the comments at the top of the main FiveD_GCode_Interpreter.pde file confuse whatever behind-the-scenes transformation of the C++ code it does.
