Firmware - Marlin
This is a really old thread, but I decided to post here. Running Marlin on Prusa i3 metal frame. I too have encountered inconsistency using the bed leveling feature of Marlin. And I am using a standard inductive sensor obtained from Aliexpress and an aluminum hot bed. So, here's what I have discovered. The sensor itself is very stable, the M48 command reports something around 0.0002mm deviation.

I'm looking for this solution too, but at the moment (March 2017) Marlin does not support DUAL Y endstop feature, only Z axis dual stop is supported.

I don't know if this has been already solved, but I would like to point out that all high power outputs on RAMPS 14 (that is, fan, extruder heater, bed heater) are OC (open collector) outputs. This basically means, that the MOSFET itself only drives the output to GND and does not provide any particular voltage on output. Check out the schematics:

I always wondered: why not glue small tin foil squares in 4 corner parts of the hotbed glass and connect them to ground, then somehow isolate the hot end from the ground and use it as a sensor terminal?
I think that's the easiest, no?
In fact, I think hotend metal part is already insulated from the ground in most extruders.

OK, now deciding on the electronics upgrade on my Cupcake. Missed some action lately, so I need some confirmation if I got this right, please:
1. "Gen 7 electronics" found on this website is a board with an Atmega 1284P MCU which relies on 4 Pololu drivers to drive the steppers. Pololu's are plugged into it. So, it's basically an all-in-one-board 3D printer controller.

Because Cupcake original design had a DC motor extruder MK3 I had to modify extruder board firmware to control the stepper motor (I am a programmer). It had a pair of nice H-bridges that worked fine

I own an old Makerbot Cupcake CNC. The extruder that came with it broke itself in about 1 week. It got all messed up and clogged, then the DC motor died too. По объявлению купил в Москве полусобранный MakerBot Ultimate (экструдер MK4, электроника gen3) и вот только что собрал.
Заработало все в первого раза (даже экструдер, надо же, сам не ожидал, т.к. его собирал полностью сам).
