yea you need two psu but, do you have the ramps already? just that mks do a board mks gen l v1 apparently it can use either 12 or 24v " never used 24v thou " doesn't cost much more than a cheap RAMPS setup.by jinx - RAMPS Electronics
I wouldn't do it like that!! just buy mks mosfetby jinx - RAMPS Electronics
that link to the breakout board for " A4988/8825 External stepper" you compared pinouts with TMC2130s? is this any help!! late here just glanced over it hackadayby jinx - General

"Thing's like LCDs and SD card readers (from experience) aren't crucial on a first printer." I disagree with that, think it is well worth having an controller and printing off SD it avoids those pc mishaps when serial comms fails into a ten hour print , and for what they cost these days no excuse not having one "The extra danger from getting burned and the power/wiring associated with thby jinx - General
Quotefirefly I couldn't find anything in the menus that would indicate unlock/release/off steppers/motors, so I don't think the M18 command is being repeated. could be that not all styles are being updated equally " unlock/release" just home againby jinx - General
I prefer the tiles adds a little more colour you find it in the files as win8 style once the firmware and baud rate are sorted have a look at the pause needs tweaking these positions are also used for fila change #pause position (-1 is invalid; Z-axis is relative position) >cfg_XPOS:-1 change to 10 >cfg_YPOS:-1 change to 10 >cfg_ZADD:10 else you end up extruding filament ovby jinx - General
you should forget kits and start building contacts with parts supplier you got corexy in the collection yet ? have a peek at the hypercube on thingiverse or the H300 " which is the dual Zaxis of the hypercubeby jinx - Reprappers

" cheap e3dv6 hotend" in the same sentence cheap V6! "or could it be that the cooling of the hotend is bad," possible you checked to see if its blowing air onto the HE, not be first to reverse wire a fan. hotend come with shroud? always help directing the air flow you measured to see if the extruder moves 10mm of filament when asked, whats your retraction setting could be you retracting toby jinx - Reprappers
Quotemechabits if you run it with marlin or smoothie option the graphic display changes, , only had a short tinker with smoothieware but I dont recall a difference in appearance, think any changes are under the hood with the way it sends commands,,, thing with mks controllers there not intended to tinker with printers like the reprap controllers where we can tweak axis and just about all things wby jinx - CoreXY Machines
QuoteMechabits What software drives the graphical display, smoothie type, (not marlin?) neither there a 32 bit MCU on those controllers from mks and they run there own custom software communicating over serial. in the config file you have the option to define smoothie, marlin and another cant remember! which.. the TFT24 has the single ribbon cable option where as the 28 and 32 have both the sby jinx - CoreXY Machines
"24v compact single board design for around £25." think if i was spending £25 or there about it be mks genL with this TFT thou it still needs another £20 for drivers , with a little extra for the bedby jinx - CoreXY Machines
almost shocking ! that you posted the same Q without adding more details. things like board, you sure you wired it right ? you got as far as installing the correct values in firmware? able to take pics?... where you wire the fan too.by jinx - General
seem it not the most fila friendly for users HDPE and judging by the short entry aint a lot of love for it before that the chips gonna have to go through a filastruder or something , which then leads to the size of the chip not advisable to loading anything larger then 5 mm, so a grinder my be required grinder,,, need to search around more but it seems a lot of work for a poor preforming fby jinx - General
love to read a shot out between the boards,,, @ cwaa how do you equate popular too be better,, your way the RAMPS would be better than both boards which aint the case.by jinx - General
Quote I found this page that lists a variety of boards, I cant believe that red ramps made that list its a bonfire waiting to happen !!! there's an alternative to the RAMPS these days with the MKs Gen L series for the budget builder, thou as frank suggest the rumba its a belting 8 bit board with all the extra required for an advance user without stepping up to 32 bit.by jinx - General
90C is about the best you get with a 12v supply ...I wouldn't use PID with the bed with a RAMPS at 12V too many horror stories with burnt connectors and blown fets. grab one of these mosfet boards its simple to install and protects the main board from thermal damage.by jinx - General
which endstop you using ? you using marlin ?and you sure the headers are on the right Pins and observing polarity of the headers with marlin have a peek around line 489 in the config.h file // Mechanical endstop with COM to ground and NC to Signal uses "false" here (most common setup). #define X_MIN_ENDSTOP_INVERTING false // set to true to invert the logic of the endstop. #define Y_MIN_ENDSby jinx - General

"One thing I did not understand: why a second hotend? Did you mean to get a 1.75mm hotend so that when my 3mm spools are finished I switch to 1.75?" sry for the confusion, yea that what I meant get a 1.75 then you covered for either option,by jinx - Reprappers
my choice be titan of ali express like this gives you the option for either 3mm or 1.75mm in the kit/box. then get a second hotend for either 3 or 1.75mm. as for the stepper the one you have should do but if you need another these steppers do just fine with a titan of ebay. set it up for a bowden, there just to much weight to go mounting the extruder directly on the X axis with the bearingby jinx - Reprappers
heres a mount with a 3mm spacing if that fails you can find a 2 mm spacer titan mountby jinx - Reprappers
"but you can't put a heat sink on the stepper like I could on the Thing that I built, which is a drag" reduce the current to the driver, I've ran 3 T clones for 18 hrs a day and the stepper just dont get hot enough to warrant a heatsink on the stepper. as for the bolt coming loose you sure you put it in the right hole, first time ever read about one coming loose.by jinx - Reprappers
hi, you got pronteface or repetier or something with serial interface to the printer.... send m119 to the printer that will report back the statues of the endstops. does it change when the endstop pressed?. i gotta ask you plugged into the Z min header?by jinx - General
