Tinkercad is going to be charging for it's service soon if not already. I started to use it, then stopped. If we want a Thingiverse alternative for RepRap, then the community will need to do it themselves.by richrap - General
You can also slice the model a few times at different infills, and manually select by layer height change - join the Gcode text files together, for Yoda do just a hollow shell up to his shoulders, add 15% infill upto the neck, then 30% higher, finishing off with 60% for the top of the head. In Slic3r this whole process only takes a few minutes. with Skeinforge, about 6 hours. With some transluceby richrap - Competitions
It may well take a lot longer than 2 hours of remote help to get it working well. Either take it along to a hacker group / Reprap group meeting or start reading some of the extensive blogs and print guides on this forum and out on the net. More than just getting it working ok, you need to know what changes to settings and speeds / materials / etc. will do to your prints to be able to print thinby richrap - General

Hi John - Really love the 'Rod' design - Maybe you should consider putting up just the mechanical parts as a mini-kit? (No Alu sections, just the Rods, joints and sliding sections). It's a really big jump for most people to go from $10 to $600+ I just spotted the belts run in line with the Alu channels, Great! It's an nice design. Good luck with the Campaign. You can try - Change your USB cable - keep it 1M or less Check your PC is not putting the USB ports into sleep mode Try another USB port / powered hub Print from an SD card - you should do that regardless. And just as an advice point - Make sure your RAMPS stack is well clamped together - I use long M3 bolts to provide slight pressure to clamp the RAMPS to the Arduino, it's amazing how manyby richrap - General
Well done Rhys, a very nice print indeed. It's really great to see so many prints, this was a tricky one, if anyone else tried and failed, still post them up, it's all good information, and you will get some help. Looking forward to the next oneby richrap - Competitions

@NewPerfection Thanks Cameron, yes, you are right, you should see different results with just esteps reduction, in the past reducing esteps has helped me print a few more tricky things. I think messing with the nozzle size is quite a good trick for many prints, especially if you are trying to match object wall perimeters with multiple filament widths so you don't get tiny bits of infill. Sorry for the cross post, but I want to make sure anyone in the UK that may want to meet up gets a chance to see it - More info about the show in this thread hereby richrap - Reprappers
The TCT Live 3D printing and additive manufacturing show is on at the Birmingham NEC on the 25th and 26th Of September 2012 It's usually a good show, with some interesting speakers and stands etc. I only had time for a few hours last year and did a quick blog post Are you planning to go? - Is anyone interested in meeting up at the event for some 3D printing chat, coffee and an expensive sandwby richrap - United Kingdom RepRap User Group
Now that the kids are back at school I can make a meeting early October (first two weeks). Any dates and places proposed yet?by richrap - West of England RUG
My first prints of this lamp object were not great due to speed and layers curling up. (PLA) It's an easier print in ABS, but for anyone wanting to print this or objects like this in PLA this could help. I made a few more prints and found a solution that worked for me - I'm using Slic3r V 0.9.1 for the below. My normal nozzle diameter is set to 0.42mm, this gives me nice results for most 'noby richrap - Competitions
I'm just about to post my final versions and some things I have learned over the last week printing this object.by richrap - Competitions
My attempts from a few days ago (the problems I was talking about above) - Not sticking With Brim and PVA - ok, but printed too fast and no cooling. X skipped at top last 5mm or so. It's still welded to my Printbed, 2 days later! I'll try again.by richrap - Competitions
@richgain - I'm having almost exactly the same results, first two times, looks identical to your pictures. (Nice Brown PLA BTW) I pumped up the BRIM to 2.6mm and added PVA solution and the third is sticking, but I can see I'm printing way too fast (80mm/sec and 260mm travel speed) and trying to do it without an external fan with PLA is not going very well. And the X axis has just skipped on theby richrap - Competitions
Hi John, That's fantastic! Love the round base and top. Is it up and running yet? I'm building up a Rostock at the moment, and guess what, using T-slot (but only for frame construction). I just ran a 608 bearing in the 20mm T-slots I have and I can see why you went that route! what a perfect fit. Delta bots are the way forwards, Nice job! Richby richrap - General

Custom sized/fitted things that work and fit in your life will drive the desire for a home 3D printer. Along with hobbies and innovating things that don't yet exist. The absurd one-off object/fitting/device becomes possible and just general gifts and hand-made / designed items that mean something more than buying them from a shop. I hope you can see it this time, I put it in a different place - If not, it shows sales of about 5500 in 2010 and 23000 in 2011 - the graph looks exponential to me! Thanks Viktor - That's less than I expected, but I guess not everyone needs to be a registered user to get a RepRap up and running. I'm not sure you can count used microcontrollers, or RAMPS shields etc. but maybe active users starts to tell us something. Do any of the moderators on this forum know how may registered users we have? Interestingly Tuan TranPham from Objet, just sent me a graphic showing sales of sub $4000 printers to the 'home' market in 2011 - see below So if that's how many were sold in 2011 and just looby richrap - General
Came up in discussion today, and I found it very hard to estimate how many RepRap's are in the wild - anyone got any ideas? I thought it would be a good question to gauge what the community thought of how big the project is becoming and how fast it's expanding... So I'm going to start with 100,000 machines - of which, maybe 20k not running Too many? / little? What about geography? I know fromby richrap - General

Thanks everyone! Always something new to do with RepRap. @Grogyan -glad you liked the video, I thought it was about time I appeared in one! @Cluso99 - yea it's a bit heavier, not a problem for MendelMax, but a Bowden version would be fantastic on a Tantillus, Rostock or an Ultimaker. @Dave - good luck with the build-up and go for the Delta bot first - it's the futureby richrap - General
