I use a Makerbot 2x every day at work for optical product development. I also use a Printrbot Jr. fairly often for my personal product development projects. Makes iterating soooooo fast and easy.by gmh39 - General
Soldering irons are not marketed as "pens". yes, you do hold them in a similar fashion as a pen, but they are not meant for drawing. Someone who does not understand the that the plastic needs to be heated before it comes out could very will pick this printer pen up and hold it like they would a pencil (ie. fingers all the way at the tip) and burn them selves pretty bad. Not saying, I don't likby gmh39 - General
They also have not finalized the design. Which 99% of the time, results in delivery delays. Almost nothing goes on time in product development. I can also forsee many people burning their fingers on this thing. It looks like the last cm or so of the tip is a heated part...by gmh39 - General
So i've got a few spool of filament here that only have maybe 10 meters of filament each. I have found that you can join them together with some applied heat, but couldn't you also join them with some acetone? Either straight acetone or ABS juice should work, right?by gmh39 - General
It definitely produces some of th best results I have seen.by gmh39 - General
Those prints look horrible...by gmh39 - General
Do you have any problems with it gluing the tap to your prints? I recently switched from painter's tape with rubbing alcohol to glass with elmers glue stick; I never turning back. (for PLA)by gmh39 - General
Hmmm. Ok. I'll double check if I have that setting checked or not.by gmh39 - Repetier
I recall seeing a printer on Kickstarter not too long ago that used this technique. It looks very professional and they claimed it dramatically reduced the print times. I would not be surprised if that was true.by gmh39 - General

So, Im not sure if this is a problem with my Host specifically, or just in general, but I have noticed for a while that it that's a VERY long time to export g-code in repetier host. Like on the order of 5-30, jut for the exporting... It seems the longer and bigger the print, the longer it takes to export. Anyone else have this problem? Are there any solutions?by gmh39 - Repetier
I am looking to sell my Formlabs Form 1 3D printer. It is an SLA printer and has great resolution. I wish I could keep it, but I need the money. It comes with a good bit of resin, you can start printing as soon as you get it!! The Formlabs site says they are still on backorder until July at the earliest. Get one now so you dont have to wait! I am looking to get $4200 (includes shipping withby gmh39 - For Sale
I thought the same thing. Then I bought a lot of 40 x 40 extrusion off eBay for ~$100. These things are super sturdy. Granted, they are also pretty heavy, but I am not going to be moving my large printer around too much.by gmh39 - General
You could also build 1 printer on each shelf!by gmh39 - General
I was referring to hardware, not software, but it is definitely a complicated topic that requires some expert input.by gmh39 - General
From my understanding, they hold no legal value. However, publishing a design establishes it as art and provides proof of it existing. That proof can be used to prove prior art. You can not sue a company or person that copies you, but you can use the prior art to prevent them from patenting you idea.* * - a lot of times, there are patent workarounds that can be used to eventually patent the iby gmh39 - General
Did you try loosening the tension on the filament? (Hobbed bolt). The filament should not be getting that distorted. I don't run a Bowden, just assuming the filament tension is similar to a non-bowden extruder.by gmh39 - Extruded Aluminum Frames
Ah, ok. I didn't notice the 3rd adjustable slider sitting on the table.by gmh39 - Delta Machines
Why not connect the motors similar to a dual motor z axis where they both move at the same time and same rate?by gmh39 - General
QuoteAndyCart Here are some images, and the .stl files for anyone interested in pursuing the printed tower slides idea. I've also attached my Sketchup design file. You can see in the image below the UHMW tape I used on the edge of the slide to reduce friction. These actually worked very well but the belt geometry was all wrong on my machine. With a little work these could be a cheap way to go. Iby gmh39 - Delta Machines
Quotewaitaki It's the quality of finish I found appealing although it's not relevant on flat surfaces. Isn't Slic3r's "vase" option doing the same thing but only in the up direction? I don't think so. Slic3rs vase option makes one continuous line that builds the vase. This looks like it makes individual layer but they use x y and z instead of just x and y. So it essentially makes a smooth 3 dby gmh39 - General
I'm willing to wager that once someone is able to successfully use a pico dlp projector, these style printer swill take off in the reprap community.by gmh39 - General
I've got a Rapman I disassembled a few months ago. Already sold the board, but I can see if I still have the extruder bolt. Can you PM me a picture?by gmh39 - Wanted
QuoteSublime QuoteBill Clark interesting. I thought it would be more or less flow assuming the error was a result of the extrusion width but actual travel adjustment would have the same effect without altering the extrusion proccess. see, I'm learning. thanks Never change your X or Y steps per mm based on a print. Test how far the axis moves using a dial gauge or digital callipers to set the X aby gmh39 - Printing
You can try a dremel sanding tube, kinda like what the Printrbot Simple uses. Just design/print and adapter for the motor shaft and wind the fishing line around the sanding tube. Also, you might want to look into guitar string tensioners if you are having trouble tensioning the fishing line.by gmh39 - Smart_Rap
Do you have a smooth filament path? Sometimes you might need to put a PTFE liner in the extruder so the filament doesnt bind and bend. Also, check your tension.by gmh39 - General

Why does it need to go into the firmware? If you are always using repetier, the Z height offset tends to be a set-it-and-forget-it value.by gmh39 - General
I've bought RAMPS boards off aliexpress. Took a while to arrive but I got it. As for buying a whole printer, you will get what you pay for. I would not be surprised if it would be missing some parts but it will definitely be low quality.by gmh39 - For Sale
