The whiteant is the best documented repstrap out there so if you dont want to buy 3d printed parts for a mendel90, had access to a reasonably equipped wood shop, and had more than a few weekends to tinker with it you should go for it. Otherwise hit nophead up for some mendel90 parts.by bwevans - General
QuoteI don't think it's in 3DS interests to do anything other than drag the case out until form labs goes under. Boy I really hope thats not the case. I backed the project to pick up an affordable stereolitho machine for my University. 3DS is a monster and it will be hard for Formlabs to do much I suspect unless the patent just cant be defended. The patent seems very specific to a type of finishby bwevans - General
This is what I think of repraper... I have no way of knowing but it seemed like a little ball of dirt inside the filament. This is grey 1.75mm PLA and every meter or so there is one of these inside the filament. More info here. Couldnt see these in the black PLA but that destroyed a MakerGear hotend after a few hours of printing and found the same blobs in some white that I really liked but deby bwevans - General
This is such an intrinsically flawed argument that its kind of funny. We need a reprap standard, or some other word that is not standard but means the same thing, so that beginners will have a place to start. Or so that we can design parts that fit many machines so that beginners are happy. Right? Because if you have a modicum of ability, ie not a beginner, you can go ahead as Rich has done and rby bwevans - Developers
I picked up this power supply for my Huxley: At 150W and 12.5A its pretty solid. Like nophead said you'll need to build your own bed. I did with some nichrome and it worked great with this PSU.by bwevans - Controllers
Wow! Simply wow! This is one huge upgrade. And I was thinking Slic3r was fast but you just upped your own game. Haven't tried support yet but I have cool rocking with great effect. Great job! Cheers! Bby bwevans - Slic3r
I've noticed quite a bit recently that reprap developers (and I am as guilty as everyone else) have a ridiculous amount of hubris. The "I can do better" attitude, cousin to "how hard could it be", which started the platform to begin with. Attempting to presume a standardized distance for all x carriages, by way of example, is an extreme exercise in futility and imposing the hubris ever more. Iby bwevans - Developers
All of this talk recently about standards, established goals, 'grading criteria' for designs, and even the suggestion of certification, presupposes a group consensus on a type of project that will benefit all parties. The thing is these conversations while seemingly new to the RepRap community are not only rooted in the early days of open source software, but they have been happening with quite sby bwevans - Developers
In my mind there are really three main classifications of active printer designs that could be grouped into three columns: Mendel, Huxley, and Wallace. Mendel are all semi-triangular frame based printers and include the Prusa Mendel, Mendel Max, and Mendel 90. 200^2+ mm build areas are common in this category and printers in this group are the most likely to develop dual printheads. These printerby bwevans - General
Got it working finally - I guess I was being dumb. The design looks great, I wish I had more time to play around with it. Ive been running a cupcake in one of my art classes this semester with mixed results and would like to see some new electronics that fix all of the goofy things about each and every design thats out there that could work for both makerbots and repraps. Yep, went to 5.11 just in case I had an older version compatibility issue but still get an invalid data error. I'll try a few more things and see what happens. I've never used the teensy library but I imagine it should work fairly well to port some firmware over to it with minor(?) changes? Have you tried this yet? I can see that parts cost isnt that bad on this design thanks to the internal Uby bwevans - Controllers
This looks pretty good. The addition of the ATAT90USB1286 for native USB is really smart. I personally am interested in this design without the 'lu' - either integrating the stepper drivers directly (you are already using smt design) or as separate driver modules to allow replacement. This would allow more current per driver and save money if done right. Also a micro sd would be a nice onboard adby bwevans - Controllers
