To follow up here, the smelly parts haven't been a big problem, since you can't smell them unless you get up real close. That's great to hear about the galvanized steel though, that's definitely a great solution.by unicoder - General
I'm no longer looking for anything, I decided to go with a MakerGear hot end. Thanks.by unicoder - Wanted
Yeah, I think you're right that there's no way to change it ourselves. I guess I was hoping I could convince an Admin to change it manually.by unicoder - General
Who administers this forum? Would it be possible to change my username?by unicoder - General
Thanks for the great advice, I'll see if I can find some non-stinky lubricant. If I can't find any, I guess I'll paint it.by unicoder - General
It sounds like there is still a lot of differing opinions regarding this part of the printer. Wade, what would you recommend for a newbie? 0.5mm or 0.35mm? Of course, my first order of business after building my prusa mendel will be to print a set of replacement parts. Will that take ages with 0.35mm?by unicoder - General

Hi, I wonder if anyone else has had a problem with smelly parts? My vitamin kit from ThingFarm just arrived and all the parts have that greasy "garage"-y smell. Is it safe to clean off whatever is causing that smell, or is it required for lubrication or something? Also, if I were to clean it off, how would I go about it? My wife has a pretty sensitive nose and she really dislikes smelly having smby unicoder - General
I'm going to venture an educated guess here. A Groovemount (tm) is an insulator that also function as a mounting system for your hotend. As for the motor, I'd guess that depends on which motor you get. I'm getting this Nema 17 motor, which lists a holding torque of 5.5Kg.cmby unicoder - General
Thanks for the tip, I think I'm pretty set now. For the hot end, I will get a superpack+wad extruder mount from makergear.by unicoder - Reprappers
Talked to some very helpful folks in IRC last night and they cleared up a lot of questions I had. I even got the inside scoop on a cool new groovemount that will be on offer soon NewPerfection, why do you suggest starting with a 0.4 nozzle? I was thinking of getting the 0.25 nozzle. Shouldn't that allow me to get better resolution, or am I over simplifying here?by unicoder - General
No worries, I'll probably just get a makergear hot end.by unicoder - For Sale
I find the number of options in MakerGear's shop to be overwhelming. Can you give an example list of items I would need to get from them?by unicoder - General
OK, thanks nophead. I'm in the US, so hopefully I can go to Home Depot or Lowes and get some MDF cut to size. Unfortunately, the thread about nozzle kits is old and he isn't selling them anymore so I will need to get the parts elsewhere. Please post if you have any suggestions! Are there people who do this kind of thing for a living that I might be able to find locally?by unicoder - Reprappers
Don't forget the hot end/nozzle for the extruder: I think the hobbed bolt could be considered pretty trivial compared to the construction of this beast. This "detail" seems to get overlooked a lot from what I've seen and it wasn't easy to track down the wiki page for it. Good luck!by unicoder - Reprappers
Heh, I don't think I've been around long enough for that, nor do I think I have nearly the technical expertise necessary to write such a piece. I hope someone else can step in and write this.by unicoder - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Oops, it looks like it's gone now.by unicoder - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Hehe, I figured, but can't someone modify it to keep it current?by unicoder - Plastic Extruder Working Group
I'm confused, you just posted to this thread 19 days ago and your post implied that you had something to send someone. That's all good if you don't have anything, I understand, but I wonder if you may have mixed up this thread with another one?by unicoder - For Sale
I don't have the equipment necessary to machine the parts for a nozzle. I'm looking to have a nozzle like the one here, although if this page at EckerTech has any validity I would prefer a .406 mm nozzle like theirs for the better print resolution. I will pay you whatever you think is fair, if you could make one or sell me one you're not using. I'm in the USA. Thanksby unicoder - Wanted
Was it intentional to leave the link to the deprecated mendel extruder (http://objects.reprap.org/wiki/Mendel_extruder) in the sticky post?by unicoder - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Update: I found this thread so I should be able to build my nozzle with a kit purchased there. Now the only things I need are the thick sheets. Anybody have any advice on how to get them without cutting them myself? If accuracy isn't as too important, I could just cut it myself.by unicoder - Reprappers
Thank you so much for doing this! I would love to buy a kit from you! I'm surprised there aren't more nozzle kits available. It seems to be impossible to get a nozzle without some really large/expensive tools.by unicoder - For Sale
I'm planning to build a Prusa, and I've begun to procure parts. I've found most everything but there are just a couple things I'm having trouble with: - I purchased a vitamin kit (fasteners, belts, rods, and bearings) from thingfarm to make things a little easier for myself - I purchased a set of printed parts with Wade's extruder (and a hobbed bolt kit) from EckerTech - I plan on getting all myby unicoder - Reprappers
Very cool, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I had no idea the variety of different print heads people had come up with. I have seen on thingiverse and here a few different objects that have to do with eating/storing food, but this got me wondering: is it safe to eat food that has come in contact with ABS or PLA? You would need to make sure you printed it with food-grade plastic to bby unicoder - General New Machines Topics
Saw this article in Popular Science about a 3D food printer. I was wondering, has anyone extended, thought about, or plans to extend a reprap to print food?by unicoder - General New Machines Topics
