Printing issues ...
Nice writeup! I'll be interested to 'ear how they hold up.
But seriously, what's with the ears and the grey corner ?!
Also, where did you buy the UHMWPE? Sounds like an interesting material.
Cheers,
Gary

Hi Sally,
Definitely an improvement from my perspective - in fact I was taken by surprise when the page loaded so quickly to read you message!
Thanks Bill2or3!

Hi Glen2,
Thanks for the update, and I applaud your efforts to actually do something about this problem!
The only suggestion I can make right away is: if there was a way to donate to the funds, and be sure that the funds are actually used for the intended purpose, then I believe many would happily donate. As you rightly say, this alone wouldn't provide the security necessary, but it would ce

So, two questions seem pertinent:
1: Who has set this up? The chipin site has barely any information saying who is responsible, who is taking the money, etc. As far as I can see no-one from the RepRap project has even mentioned this.
2: How on earth will $150 remotely help set up a new server?
I think your efforts would be better put to use trying to convince the admins of this forum to ac

Hi Uwe,
There's a few similar projects under way to try and produce filament from granules in the home. Some are starting to yield results, and in fact I am building a Lyman's extruder myself at the moment.
I think any information you could share - including both what worked and what didn't - would be appreciated.
It looks like your machine produces a band where precision is not really an is

Hi Rob,
I just tested this myself and you're right - the result is flipped along the Y axis. I hadn't noticed before because the few times I used freesteel my models were symmetrical. I also use Slic3r for slicing DLP models now.
I can't see an option to "unflip" it (though I can't imagine it doing that on purpose!) so the only suggestion I have (if you still want to use it) is to load your S

Hi Marcos,
Congratulations on completing your build. As I am planning on building a Mendel90 in the new year I am looking forward to reading the build notes you say you'll be posting on your blog
Regarding the print problems with the stepped object - my guess is that because the deformed area is quite small it is not cooling down enough, i.e. the hot-end is keeping it pliable - hence the longe

Hi Mike, Nice work!
Have you considered uploading the files to Thingiverse? Or perhaps to a github repository, if you plan on developing the printer design further.
Cheers,

"really hot hot-end?" Hava a look at this list:
I'd love to see your design for a hot-end that can be safely and reliably heated to at least 660°C to melt Aluminium, which is one of the lowest melting points or useful metals in that list.
I'm sure the metal working industry, including those toiling in smelting plants, furnaces and such, would also love to see it!

Hi Adrian,
Your printer looks very nice! Congratulations!
Have you documented your modifications anywhere, say on the wiki perhaps?

I haven't any experience, but I do know the GRRF recently started selling Polystyrene:
I'd be interested to hear how it prints, and also whether it could be reclaimed from recycling.

FWIW, I mainly read the forums over RSS, perhaps others do to, and this would not count for the page hits the actual forum gets
Also, I'd love to know what's happening with the infrastructure behind the forums and the wiki - it seems to be slowing down a little each time I visit. Does someone need to reboot a machine somewhere??
And +1 for deleting some of the unused subsections.

+1!! I've had pretty much this idea on my todo list for a while but never got around to implementing/suggesting it.
Could it be implemented by making the perimeter count relative to the height?

Thanks for the clarification akhlut, I see what you are saying now, and I agree that given pdesigns, or someone, vets and organises the candidates accordingly then a community vote could help ascertain the suitable candidates. I think your point 7 ("The results of the election are merely a guide...") would be a sensible approach.

RepRap magazine
Hi guys,
(this post has turned into a wall of text, the TLDR is that I think gaining adoption for an alternative would be hard and I try and describe a decentralised alternative further down which I would love to hear peoples thoughts on.)
I've been thinking about this for a while, in fact I posted on the forum in May of last year trying to find out opinions about the state of the RepRap Wiki

"adhocracy" - love it! and it does describe this project very well. At first I found it quite frustrating, but I now realise that there are genuine advantages of it being so loosely coupled.

Sorry akhlut but I have to disagree about the election idea. Firstly, it's pdesigns' idea so I think he should run with it as he see's fit. Secondly, democracy, and hence elections, only work when the people are informed - how can picking from a list of names choose the right person to be an editor? Choose the right person for the job based on their skills, abilities and commitment, rather than

I agree with Viktor that all aspects should be featured, and commercialisation is a valid topic. However I have to disagree about the board - I don't think there are many (any?) examples of times where a committee actually helps. By all means have some kind of advisory board, but I would strongly recommend that someone take control of the magazine and have the final say. Of course I also recomme

I'd certainly read it, and contribute if I could, and I'm sure many others in the community would too.
I think there is enough going on to validate its existence, and whilst most of the community no doubt gather their info in real time via RSS, Google+, the forums, etc. I think collating recent events and topics in a magazine format could allow for deeper analysis and discussion, and to capture

What I'm having trouble understanding with regard to the Moral Rights clause is that it seems to be moot for the majority of the targeted userbase.
According to the MBI post Moral Rights are not applicable in the US, and according to Wikipedia they are only valid in the US for a narrow subset of visual arts. Also, in at least Europe : "...it is not possible for authors to assign or even waiv

@Elbot - I think your argument starts with a false assumption - that economics is the controlling factor - and I also think your conclusion does not imply the title of your post, i.e. that economic success of non-RepRap printers will lead to the demise of RepRap.
"Economics will control whether or not people will do Reprap at all." - I disagree. Many (the majority?) of people join the RepRap pro

Of course you're quite correct. I had completely disregarded the fact that the primary license of each work may not necessarily be non-commercial, and therefore selling the piece is totally acceptable. My apologies, next time I'll try and think a bit more before posting.

Whilst I would be amazed at someone forking out $749 for a printed plastic heart it's quite obvious that the changes in the ToC allows them to print and sell any design in their shop without having to give anything to the original des

Hey Viktor you seem to have a million projects going on at the same time Arbofill and Arboblend look really interesting. Did you order your pellets directly from Tecnaro? Do you think they could be extruded into filament?? This is something I would really like to pursue!
