I'm assuming the 1 and 2mm sections need to be at melt temperature (otherwise you're not going to get 3mm filament through there). As there is no thermal break between the sections the 3mm section of the brass bolt is also likely to be at a temperature very close to this. So you end up with the whole 50mm bolt length of molten/semi molten plastic as opposed to most hot end designs where only theby Logrod - General
Thanks for the config.h file Gerv. I'll have a look in more detail later today hopefully but it gives me something to check that I've not made any huge errors in mine!by Logrod - Mendel90
Gerv would you mind sharing your config parameters (including the max acceleration)? - I'm in the middle of doing my config (when real life stops getting in the way!)by Logrod - Mendel90
for calibration there is a page on the wiki - search for calibration for firmware there are a number of wiki pages depending on what you're using (marlin/sprinter?)by Logrod - Reprappers
Here's my twopennyworth as a newcomer....I think you have a number of issues You have a wide range of people who have different backgrounds (mechanical/DIY/Electonics/Computing/Materials Science etc) but RepRap is unusual in that you actually need some understanding of ALL of these which most people don't have and don't realise they don't have The wiki is incredibly hard to navigate unless you kby Logrod - General
In Nophead's instructions for the Mendel90 he specifies tightening the belts till you have "enough tension to play a low note when plucked" - I don't know if that helps you?by Logrod - Reprappers
Just out of interest how steep is the temperature profile through the material in the z-axis? Plastics aren't great conductors of heat so I'd expect a fairly steep reduction in temperature as build height increases, which makes me wonder whether it's worth having heated beds operating beyond the first few layers? If in fact all the heated bed is doing (in the latter phase of the print) is heatingby Logrod - Developers
Ok thanks Mike, I might take the extra two off then...haven't got around to testing yet as i'm still soldering all the electric up (hoping to test it all in next couple of days if I don't get distracted by real life too much). How did you assess the wobble just visually or...?by Logrod - Mendel90
Thanks Gerv, I'm leaving the upside downprinting till I have finished manufacturing my space station In terms of the risk of a head crash I've actually installed both top AND bottom Z axis limit switches (though none of the electrics are connected to the Sanguinolulululu yet). Does anyone know can I just wire the two Z limit switches together so that if one is activated then the motors stop or dby Logrod - Mendel90
Thanks Mike, my BOM had just the one each end as well but two looked as if it might be better and I thought I'd ask before I get any further in the build and then want to strip it down!by Logrod - Mendel90
Theres a captive M8 nut beneath both the X-Motor-End and the X-Idler-End , but the topside of the threaded rod location is is in a hex format as well...is there meant to be an additional M8 above both X-ends and/or has anyone tried this? I wondered if there would be more structural rigidity with top and bottom nuts (and less sideways movement of the threaded rod) and there shouldn't be a risk ofby Logrod - Mendel90
Thanks Xiando, I've read the wiki already but was hoping there might be something more.by Logrod - Firmware - mainstream and related support
Is there anywhere I can find a good marlin tutorial?by Logrod - Firmware - mainstream and related support
I'm just about to start a build of a Mendel90 and I'd suggest you have a look at that. The instructions on the wiki are clearer than a lot and the design is supposed to be flexible to expand dimensions (that said you need to be aware of the risks of building something bigger that may not work / require much more debugging). One of my reasons for deciding to build the Mendel90 was that most of theby Logrod - General
An alternative way of estimating numbers might be to look at software downloads of RepRap "specific" software out there eg Slic3r (many software downloaders keep a tally of total downloads). There will inevitably be some double counting with updated versions being downloaded but if you look at current version downloads that might also give you an idea of how many were still being used.by Logrod - General
