Yvan, I think the largest obstacle is weight. Do not over-build the bed. I learned this the hard, expensive way. I now have a 12x12 hotplate that I'm still trying to figure out something to do with. I've got a piece of 3003 AL, 12"x12"x0.040" thick as my heat spreader. It's bendy but not soft. I tapped and countersunk M5 screws into nylon standoffs and then used the screws to deform the mby akhlut - Reprappers
Yvan, here's a pic of the setup. It's old, but illustrative. I'll get a wiring schematic up soon. I hear ya about the whole McMaster/Canada thing. Really sucks.by akhlut - Reprappers
Yvan, First look for something similar to this: McMaster Item # 35765K614 Or these: this is very easy to do. I run a 12"x12" bed. I have a thin piece of 12"x12" aluminum that I stuck a 10"x10" silicone heating pad to. One leg of the silicone pad is wired direct to AC neutral. The other leg of the silicone pad goes to an SSR. Then you wire the 110V leg of the circuit to the other side oby akhlut - Reprappers

I almost just passed out from laughing so hard! Quote...and I trust Pettis will bring the open source ethos to Stratasys headquarters and tell them it’s off limits. This guy needs to go do his homework. Pettis traded in his "open-source warrior" badge the instant he took VC funding. Now his employee nametag reads "Bre Pettis, whore".by akhlut - General
I don't think anyone really cares what happens to MBI. What will be interesting is what happens to Thingiverse. How quickly will it be monetized?by akhlut - General
I'm actually working on a different solution. I've got a couple of peltier elements and I'm making a filament chiller. Basically, it's a miniature fridge that the filament passes into and then out of through an attached tube. The tube then passes into the heated chamber and finally meets the top of the extruder. I've got a massive air pump from an old pond attached, so there should be plentyby akhlut - General
I am from The United States of America. New Jersey if you must know. And not liberal North Jersey. Good old South Jersey - far enough south to be below the Mason-Dixon. I live in a red county for sure. NJ has some pretty restrictive gun laws. Body armor is legal to possess here as well. Just don't use it in the commission of a crime. @ bobc - you're pretty much dead-on. Both partiesby akhlut - General

Yeah, you're right. So people need to stop distrusting the government simply because it suits their bullshit political beliefs. The US isn't Syria, it isn't Turkey, it isn't Russia, it isn't China. I'd really like to hear what rights you have that the US government tramples on every day. People in those countries don't have the rights that you take for granted every day. They live in tyrannyby akhlut - General
You'e the one who said "anyone". aduy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > that right there in my opinion is wrong, anyone > should be able to have body armor. how can body > armor be a bad thing, that's just ridiculous. ADSK seems like a particularly good fit, given their consumer-friendly "apps" and recent acquisition of inventables.by akhlut - General

I guess the Thingiverse ToU will get a little more scrutiny now... QuoteThingiverse Terms of Use, Section 3.2 License. The folks over on the shapeoko forums would be much more familiar with this particular setup.by akhlut - General
Not really. :/ Jo suggested a fan on the hobbed bolt, which I am going to try. I've also got an alternate solution to keeping the filament and hobbed bolt cool in the works. Retract is about 1mm at this point. Still playing/refining.by akhlut - General
DRV8825's have been remarkably consistent at 24V so far. Actually consistent is an understatement. More like rock solid. They have outperformed A4988's in every way. But maybe it's my setup that has lent to the successful use of the drivers - only 1/8th microstepping. I haven't gotten around to pushing 35V through my setup yet - I've been...distracted.by akhlut - RAMPS Electronics

The limitation is probably due to some stipulation of the grant money used to fund the contest. But I think it's a great idea - something we need to see more of!by akhlut - General
Do yourself a favor and get a DRV8825 based chip. They work just like A4988's but offer more current. orby akhlut - Controllers
For a J-head you don't need a fan if you intend to print ABS. I'd estimate I have about 1000 machine hours printing ABS and have experienced zero jams with a J-head. Just doesn't happen (for me at least). As far as carriages, I'm partial to Richraps Quick-fit carriage. but you need to print a mounting plate and some additional hardware to get it up and running. Tommyc's carriage is also niby akhlut - Reprappers
What hotend and extruder are you using? I'm assuming your carriage is pla. Make sure you get an abs one next.by akhlut - Reprappers
So, after 8 hours I wake up to this: Well, still printing. Which is a huge plus. I'll share all the changes I've done to get here so you don't have to read the whole thread (but you probably should anyway). Firmware changes: I went and dialed back my E axis #define DEFAULT_MAX_FEEDRATE {500, 500, 50, 60} #define DEFAULT_MAX_ACCELERATION {9000,9000,10,3000} #define DEby akhlut - General
