There where some very good points made here on why a Lego RepRap might not work all that well. I think some things it might be good for, but most things it's not optimal.by spacexula - General
I am sorry to see you are selling it at no profit. If you do this at no profit this is likely going to be a 1 off hobby. It you turned a profit you would be more likely to keep doing it.by spacexula - Reprappers
It kills me to pay Ebay so much commission, so wanted to try it this way. I will print any part of Mendel you want, at a rate of $15 an hour plus $10 shipping. Just tell me the parts you want and I will start printing in in ABS on a non heated build plate. Hope to be switching back to PLA shortly, for now ABS is all I am having luck with. I will only take 5 hours worth of printing at a timeby spacexula - Job Shop: I make stuff!

I live in Winston-Salem NC, but have family in Atlanta. I am interested in going in with you for the hardware. I don't read your thread often, so please PM me when you order, I will likely throw inby spacexula - Atlanta, Georgia RepRap User Group
Estimated cost? If you can't meet or beat the 130-140 for the motherboard and 3 steppers from Makerbot I don't see much of a point. Would it be open source?by spacexula - Reprappers
I think this way of doing it works better in the wanted forum for several reasons. -Most people are currently requesting "full rp sets", You can not machine a full RP set, but a tender would allow the Machiners to easily provide the machinable peices to the people that want full sets. -It allows people to barter for needed materials for their RepRap as payment for some of the parts. -It will dby spacexula - Administration, Announcements, Policy

**EXAMPLE** Hey guyes, I am wanting a full set of Mendel Parts. Following is my Tender. Upon more reflection, we could actually do a "test tender" her on this board within the Wanted thread. I think it would be interesting to see the response. Basically the format would work something like this. You must request all Mendel parts BY NAME, so if you want a full set of mendel parts you must list ALL the mendel parts in your post, and how much you would pay to get them seperately, noby spacexula - Administration, Announcements, Policy
Has the administrators of RepRap ever considered an Auction/Tender System in parallel with the forum? There are a few open source Tender/Auction systems from which RepRap could choose that are licensed under the Mozilla Public License, so they would not conflict with the Open source philosophy. I personally believe it would solve a few problems that have plagued RepRap from it's inception: 1.by spacexula - Administration, Announcements, Policy
Surely someone has thought of this, but can't find if there has actually been any work done on it. Basicly you build all the peices for mendel out of hybrid rp/lego peices. The standard dimentions of legos are set internationally, and already based of metric measurements. They also have an already active development community. The parts can be had new and used cheap Basicly what you wouldby spacexula - General
Better place to get answers for Makerbot related questions is the Makerbot Google groupby spacexula - General
I have been selling mendel components on Ebay, I am using my Makerbot to produce the peices, but I think machining them will actually turn out to create a higher production rate What parts of mendel would be the hardest to machine? That way I can concentrate on populating the parts you, and the people using your designs would have a hard time producing.by spacexula - For Sale
Sebastian, this sounds bad, but as of late you have sounded almost jealous of Makerbot/Thingiverse. It's just different. Sort of like the Salvation Army being jealous of the US Marine Corp. RepRap is an open source uberella organization for a style of device that defies profit. RepRap, and this forum will be around WAY after Makerbot and BfB goes away. Makerbot is a temporary RepStrap companyby spacexula - Administration, Announcements, Policy
So any person that tries to sell anything in the For sale forum must produce 1 orgininal design and post it to the RepRap.org commons? If it is "less than a gentle suggestion" does that mean you will in some way punish someone who does not follow your commandment?by spacexula - Administration, Announcements, Policy
Big difference between the projects. Who is tweeting RepRap? Who is vlogging Reprap? Who is promoting RepRap? Who is buying booths at CES for RepRap? Look at google trends, the work they are doing is paying off, and the lack of work on the RepRap end is making RepRap pay. There is a reason I own a Makerbot and not a Reprap, there was NO way to get a RepRap, but I could get a Cupcake.by spacexula - Administration, Announcements, Policy
My suggestion would be to purchase 100 of the PCB from Makerbot at 3.75. You are not going to get any cheaper than that, and Makebot already sells most the peices at lower costs than you can privately get them anyway.by spacexula - For Sale
Sarrus Linkage Mark III is comming closer, but the $.10 material is VERY limiting. Unless you can come up with a home made subs trait for printing we are not going to reach this. Remember ABS is $10 a lb and we have to get to $.1 to win. It's not going to happen easilyby spacexula - Kartik M. Gada Humanitarian Innovation Prize

If would be great, what where the heck would you have it? Likely the BEST/COOLEST option would be a Hackerspace simultaneous party. Basically have a 24 hour party where people stream the party online and display the parties on screens at each location. I am just sayingby spacexula - General
I have a Makerbot in Winston-Salem NC (Central NC). If anyone wants to use it to print off parts just let me know. I don't mind sharing. All I will ask is that you help out with some spare parts and PLA.by spacexula - For Sale
Sebastien, I understand your frustration, we at this point have between 100-200 blogs (maybe 20-30 active), 3 fully functioning but separate Wikis (Makerbot, RepRap, and Bf, 2 forums (Reprap and Bfb), 1 google group (makerbot). The sad thing to me is not that the development is so spread out, but that the people are compartmentalizing. I don't see many of the RepRap folk in the Makerbot group oby spacexula - Administration, Announcements, Policy

I think both of you have a point, but I come down more on the side of Nophead than Sebastien. In the End RepRap.org should be the wikipedia of Reprap. Does Jimmy Wales get angry at Brad Pitt because he didn't update his Wikipedia article when he adopted his new kid? NO! Does Pitt have a right to get angry when someone updates his wikipedia article? No! It took me 2 times as long to make myby spacexula - Administration, Announcements, Policy
I think you guys are WAY over thinking this. There are really only 4 solid RepRap/Strap desings. Makerbot Rapman Darwin Mendel Each of these have fully functioning, cleanly documented wikis. Ponoko Darwin, and Makerbot can both be built without RP parts, and the Wiki's tell you how. McWire is the only non documented version, and that's because it's the most free form. Mcwires are everythingby spacexula - Administration, Announcements, Policy
