I update Wikipedia all the time, but I have never updated the Makerbot or Reprap wiki, even when I have seen errors, because they have the "combed" feel. If I saw a miss spelling I would not feel comfortable editing it. What I have always thought would be neat was a Live update copy of the "official" Rep rap wiki. Something along the lines of Google wave, but handled by a group of Etherpad pagby spacexula - Administration, Announcements, Policy
The dreaded PTFE strip. I purchased 2 PEEK thermal barriers from makergear, and nozzles nichrome, thermistors, an barrels enough to make 3 nozzles from makerbot. Hoping to be back to 100 percent this week.by spacexula - For Sale
Not really mandatory with PLA at all. ABS needs it for the larger pieces. Anything that can be done on makerbot can be done on Mendel, so yes, I will give you dimes to donuts that Hot Mendels will be running around in the next few months.by spacexula - General
Lots of captive nuts, high fidelity silicone mold material is not cheap, good strength resin is not cheap. Most parts can be printed in twice the time it takes to cast them. You to better to just run 2,3 printers. Same time, no fixed print design (If mendel 2 is uploaded tomorrow you don't have old design molds sitting around). But as they always say here, if you do it, I will watch and cheerby spacexula - Casting and Moldmaking Working Group
Easiest way in the US is to try to find someone who owns a Makerbot in working order, and try to barter access to their machine. Most of the owners are pretty friendly as long as you help them out with their machine.by spacexula - General Mendel Topics
Some of the mechanics are coming together today while I am sitting here at work. Ystage trolly: Top is a small peice of acrylic, with two RP brackets to hold acrylic spacers (could not get bearings to fit) , one has two Mendel belt clips. Build plate is removable like maker bot, but uses throw y magnets instead of the pretty gold ones. Xstage trolley: Base is cut Acrylic sheet, with motor andby spacexula - General Mendel Topics

I have been messing around with sketch up trying to build a small scale (100x100x100cm build area) Mendel. The design is in 3 different programs and in my sketch book, but basically it's Mendels outer frame and Z axis, Makerbots XY axis & electroncis The reason I am doing this is I want to expedite RepRap reproduction, and given all parts for Mendel can be printed by Maker bot, why not juby spacexula - General Mendel Topics
Resin sticks to ABS like mad, especially ridged ABS. If you really want to cast some stuff: Adrian Bowyer's guide to casting parts : Great Resin, reasonable price rtvmoldmaking.com US source for low viscosity 22a as refereed to in the Soft Tooling For Casting section of RepRap. (US supplier is significantly cheaper, but this stuff is expensive in the 1st place).by spacexula - For Sale

This is a little bit dangerous association to foster. RepRap is still very young, and very poorly adopted. Any type of association with left of intellectual property is a step in front of giants. Thingiverse is taking a very conservative approach, and at this point it's the only way to go.by spacexula - Administration, Announcements, Policy
There are two smart ways to go about it, both of which are only avialable because RepRap is open source. -Check online at the professional PCB printing companies and see how much the screen burn will cost you. If you can get the screen burnt, the follow on prints are actually not that expensive, and then you can sell the PCB in your country online for much less than people would be able to sourby spacexula - Reprappers
Now imagine that piece, with 2-6 captive nuts, and 2-4 bars ran through it. It can be done, but it's going to be hard on the molds, and your sanity. Better to take the money you would spend on the silicone/resin and just pay for a second printer. Static cost for silicone is close to the cost of electronics/rods/screws for a printer. Better to build a second printer.by spacexula - For Sale
That was my dream as well but when your price the silicone required for the molds, it ends up being about 10-15 dollars each for the molds because you need to use platinum cure silicone to insure no warping, and a high quality resin to ensure stress tolerance. I set down and did the math, even with buying in a decent bulk it would have cost me 10-12 dollars a piece for the molds, and 3-4 a pieceby spacexula - For Sale

I am within a week of having my 1st Mendel set printed in PLA (with ABS vertxes, because that's what I was printing with at the time). I have decided to sell the 1st printed set to help fund MY Mendel, but can't figure out the fair way to offer this set. Should I: -Post it on Ebay, with no Buy it now and a 2 week auction time (about how long it took me to print the set) -Post it on Ebay withby spacexula - For Sale
I don't think a printed book would be appropriate for the 3d printing community at this time. Too many things in flux, and given a 6 month lead time on a printed book, from purchase to publication, it would be woefully out of date when it hit the shelves. Just think if you sold the book today, what will have likely changed by the time it hit the book stores? -Likely a new Makerbot CNC -Likelyby spacexula - Administration, Announcements, Policy
