That's a shame. I have had a look at the code and it is not obvious what the problem is. And I can’t reproduce it as I don’t use a stepper for the extruder. Instead of just setting the PMW value and getting on with moving the x,y steppers (as with the DC motor) the code uses interrupts to ensure the electronic pulse is in the right place for the stepper. It is completely different set of codby stephen george - RepRap Host
Hello? Is it working? Stephenby stephen george - RepRap Host
I think I have got it. Grin. Your pin outs are as follows //#define EXTRUDER_1_TEMPERATURE_PIN (byte)0 // Analogue input ..... // if you don't have a stepper motor for the extruder ensure #define EXTRUDER_dc_motor is uncommented in parameters.h // if you do have a stepper motor for the extruder ensure #define EXTRUDER_stepper_motor is uncommented in parameters.h #define EXTRUDER_0_STEP_ENby stephen george - RepRap Host
You said Note that I am able to continue to send serial messages (i.e M101, M102, M103, M105). However, it comes to a point where if I send a M101 the serial won't print OK and i won't be able to send any more commands. I think this is normal behavior because the firmware waits for the extruder to reach temperature before executing M101 (moving the stepper forward), but because the heater is no lby stephen george - RepRap Host
Hi Please could you update the serial.txt with what is going on. e.g. M105; T:200 ok M101; ok // Temperature light has gone off // motor is running forward Press reset // Temperature light on etc So I can step through the code and work out what is going wrong. The interesting thing is that the light should never go off. i.e Code extract from extruder.pde heater_low = 64;by stephen george - RepRap Host
You said The extruder barrel will heat up to the temperature pre-set on the firmware (i.e 200c) and stay there, then when I send a M101 command it will start extruding however I've noticed that the heater will stop heating the barrel (I can see the LED turn off on the PWM output) and will never turn on again even if I send M104 S200; to set the temperature again. My reply Does the extruder keepby stephen george - RepRap Host
If you could upload all the files that would be great. That way I have the whole story. Thanks Stephenby stephen george - RepRap Host
Hi Luis I will have a look into it and see what I can do. Have you made any other changes to the firmware? Stephenby stephen george - RepRap Host
BeagleFury () Interesting idea. A question might be posed as to whether you'll be able to read the USB stick. 20 years ago, 3.5 inch floppy disks were all the rage for storage medium. My reply True. But then to get the reprap to work you needs some form of USB connector for the arduino. I just wanted a repository of all the data required to get the reprap to work. That way even if Makerbot wentby stephen george - General
Hi I am fast coming to the end of my second repstrap build. This robot is built to last and to be very reliable (we shall see). I am adding an old USB stick which will be fixed permanently to the chassis of the reprap. It contains all the build instructions, software to use the reprap and any other tools I found useful. The idea is that in 20 years time. After I have moved on, if someone wantsby stephen george - General
BodgeIt () said The reason your steppers are now not getting hos could be that you are now using the motor enable pin on the stepper boards. Hence the Steppers are now not turned on all the time. My response All my motors were running hot. I could not touch any of them for very long. I put two large heat sink on the X and Y and a small one on the Z. Hi BodgeIt () said Good point only having my motors mounted on MDF.. I had forgoten about the steppers as they do get quite hot. My reply My steppers motors used to get very very hot. i.e. burn your hand hot. At one point I even had a heat sink and fan on them. Then I put an aluminum heat sink from an AMD Duron CPU and a small CPU fan on the stepper driver board itself and the steppers motorsby stephen george - General
So now the 2.3 stepper is off the market will reprap.org be moving to the next makerbot stepper board? Currently the reprap instructions deal with 2.3 only regards Stephenby stephen george - Controllers
Guys, Just a thought. Sorry if someone else has come up with this. Rather than using a separate pin for a max stop and an min stop on an axis why not use the same input and the direction of travel set on the stepper to calculate which stop we have hit. i.e. if we are moving the x axis left and a end stop raises a pin high we can only be at the min stop position. if we are moving the x axisby stephen george - Controllers
darenp said Hi i manufacture 3mm abs and other plastic rod in 300mtr spools where do people using reprap machines currently source this material? My reply How much do you charge darenp?by stephen george - Australia, Brisbane RepRap User Group
I would be very interested to see you code. regards Stephenby stephen george - STEP-NC
Triffid_Hunter () said don't quote me on this, but IIRC that starch plastic is hygroscopic, so it swells up and goes moldy after a while unless you live in a desert. 1) Can you paint it? 2) Could you use it as a filler ie. ABS outside with a solid IIRC centre.by stephen george - General
I am interested in a heated bed but surely the higher the object the less of an effect it has. Surely a "green house" and a variable temperature controlled heat gun (I am thinking of the thing from a hardware store used to remove paint) is the way to go? Crank up the whole reprap (not the electronics ) to 70C heat gun example at $48 regards Stephenby stephen george - General
Hi As you probably know PLA is made out of starch. I came across these pages on how to make plastic out of cornstarch. I wondered if anyone had 1) Other plastic recipes 2) Investigated the properties of these plastics. regards Stephenby stephen george - General
What is it about the reprapers where they all have to have their own special version of the firmware? Do we really think our needs are so special that we need a unique version? Disclaimer: I am no better, I have my own custom one based on the original firmware for the arduino. However Could we work together and come up with a singe Gcode / 5d Gcode interpreter BIOS based on this arduino rewrby stephen george - Firmware - experimental, borrowed, and future

Jgilmore To get a 6.35mm hole exactly in the center of your 10mm bolt, you need to put the 10mm bolt in your hand drill, the 6.35mm drill bit in a table vise, and drill into it that way. You can easily tell if it's precisely centered or not, as it will shake/vibrate if you try to drill off center. It will also auto-center to some degree when you try to hold it steady. Brucew said The only issue i have seen with Graphite being a locksmith is after a bunch of years it tends to become a friction agent like sand. My reply I don't suppose you could quantify "a bunch of years". If it's more than 5 I don't think I have to worry. Also what climate do you work in? and does this contribute to the graphite becoming a friction agent?by stephen george - Reprappers
There are many open source licenses (see ) Which one does the reprap use for it's firmware / design ? Should there be a reprap specific license? e.g. This object falls under the REPRAP OPEN SOURCE License Should things created by the reprap automatcially have to be open source? That is if you sell it you provide the "source code" ie CAD file. Should we be asking Richard Stallman in for adviceby stephen george - Administration, Announcements, Policy
Hi I have used many lubricant for the threads on the reprap. Most ending in a black mess. oil, WD40, Silicon etc. However I have found the cheapest, most easily available and best by far is the humble pencil. The pencil "lead" is of course graphite which can be bought in powder form as a lubricant. But it is much more convenient to run the pencil over the thread and in the thread leaving aby stephen george - Reprappers

Hi goinreverse () said To me the whole print itself thing is a gimmick, 80% by weight threaded rod... Design changes so frequently there will never be enough printed parts to go around. My reply. It's a work in progress and it's fast becoming a reality. Take the reprap I am currently building. It's a darwin design and only has four threaded rods and three un threaded rods. My understanding is that people are working on a reprap printable rack and pinon type drive with a nice V in it to make sure that the pinion does not fall off the rack. see I am sure this will be incorporated into the next reprap as Adrian is very keen on maing the reprap build itself. Hi aka47 () You said "Source code does always benefit from a look over by more than one developer though, It's all too easy when down in the trees to loose the shape of the woods.
