QuoteKaroo Klong Quotejamesf I bought both my Ender 3's locally in SA (I wanted some sort of local support) and I'm very happy. They were under R4000 each which for the performance of the printer is a great price. The supplier brings them in by ship which reduces costs. That is way less than the quotes I have been getting. Perhaps you can point me in the direction of that suplier? [3drone.co.za]by jamesf - Ormerod
QuoteKaroo Klong The Creality Ender 3 was also in my wishlist but importing to South Africa does not make it worth at all. The Crealirty Ender 5 was released a few weeks ago and boy does it look exciting! Have a look at the video. Quotecheeseandham A friend bought a Prusa i3 Mk3 a couple of months ago and I must say I've been damn impressed with it so far. I've even considered selling both of my Ormerods (or even just discarding them) and buying the Mk3! I'm now giving my better Ormerod 2 one last chance to come up to scratch.... I looked at the Prusa for a long time, but I just can't justify the price. So I closed my eby jamesf - Ormerod
Thanks David, Does the Delta give much better quality? Jamesby jamesf - Ormerod
So, I suppose it was bound to happen , but still seems a difficult question to ask :-) I need a second printer and I dont think it will be an ormerod. Anyone else here "replaced" their old favourite? With what? Experiences? Jamesby jamesf - Ormerod
Hello all. The standard y-belt tensioner on the ormerod 2 is finally annoying me more than I can bear! What would be the best recommendation for improving this, both with regards to functionality and ease of installation? Thanks Jamesby jamesf - Ormerod
This is quite funny. Just reading release notes on V4 of simplify 3d. They fixed the bridging perimeter speed and angle issues we were just dealing with.by jamesf - Ormerod
Thanks Eric, glad to know it can be done. Was that with the same settings from your previous post? What I did notice while watching the printer and the simulation on Simplify 3D, is that the direction of the infil of the bridge is not always directly parallel to the bridge direction. The printer is then at some point attempting to attach a bridged strand to the bridge perimeter, which is oftenby jamesf - Ormerod
Thanks Eric What is your default extrusion speed ? (normal printing, not bridging ) I also saw that simplify 3D does not apply bridging settings to the perimeters. not sure if this is a bug or something that is hard to achieve ? How often do you replace nozzles? I wouldnt think mine could be worn, but you never know, and the symptom is that the filament gets dragged if not supported. I may jby jamesf - Ormerod
Hello all Can anyone give any advice on Ormerod 2 and Simplify 3D bridging settings? I have printed a test part reducing the bridging speed by 1 percent at a time and frankly I see little difference! Thanks Jamesby jamesf - Ormerod
Works perfectly after the upgrade to 1.17d - thanks David Jamesby jamesf - Ormerod
Where can I get DWC 1.14 I only see 1.11 here and I am already using that Thanks again Jamesby jamesf - Ormerod
Thanks for going to the trouble of testing it David. I will update the firmware this weekend. Perhaps I will also find the time to install the IR Board I got from you more than a year ago! - never seems to be enough time! Of purely academic interest perhaps regarding the file - slicing two of the offending STL's together as one Gcode file makes no difference to it's readability.by jamesf - Ormerod
An update on my own problem Used pronterface to print the above file. When I select it for printing it says something like "cannot print no file selected" and then a little while later (about 30 seconds) it starts printing. Thinking about it the delay could have been the extruder coming up to temp) So definitely related to the web interface?by jamesf - Ormerod
Hello all This is a strange one (to me anyway)! Ormerod 2 Firmware DC42 1.11 (I know I should probably update!) Simplify 3d I have a certain STL file that slices fine on Simplify 3d. It uploads succesfully to the printer, then when I click "close" on the dialog box after the upload the web interface crashes with an Ajax error. (error reason "timeout" If I reconnect the web interface agaiby jamesf - Ormerod
Thanks that was it. I had skimmed through the text and assumed I had the 4.7K because of the date I purchased the printer, not thinking the duet could have been a bit older! And of course I didnt go through the setup process as thoroughly as when I first built it! Just goes to show - never assume anything! Regards Jamesby jamesf - Ormerod
Hi guys, After a LONG absence from using my Ormerod 2 (having a young child will do that to you!) I switched the beast on a few days ago, and all was well (did not print though) Today I had some time on my hands so decided to really start using the printer again. I feel like a complete novice again, and since some parts of the learning curve have to be repeated I thought I might as well startby jamesf - Ormerod
Quotedmould While I don't know what the case is with the BuildTak material, it is worth bearing in mind that colours that look dark or even jet-black under visible light may reflect IR well. I once had a monochrome camera that automatically switched to IR below a certain visible light level, and I recall seeing black clothing magically changing to white as the IR function cut in - it looked veryby jamesf - Ormerod
HI Dave Good news! It only took the South African post office 2.5 months to get the parcel the last 50km from the airport to my address! (you mailed late December) Received in good order, now to find time to install. Thanks the arm looks great. Jamesby jamesf - Ormerod
Erik seems to have a thing for 8 legged creatures! Looks really good. Is the wood on the x-axis functional?by jamesf - Ormerod
Hi Tim, Yes I saw your thread. I am looking for a duct that will fit with DC43's IR sensor which I am waiting for. Does yours support that? I should have some printer time this weekend. Will try your house print Cheers Jamesby jamesf - Ormerod
Hi John here is a link to Ormerod 2 documentation. There are minor differences but I think it should work, unless I'm missing some small detail. thanks Jamesby jamesf - Ormerod
Hi John Great design, will this work on the Ormerod 2? Looking at the STL they are not too different Thanks Jamesby jamesf - Ormerod
I've been wanting to do the same thing with the ormerod 2 Y motor mount. There's a long countersunk groove allowing Y belt tensioning and mine has already started to split. Perhaps that will be my first attempt at part Editing! Jamesby jamesf - Ormerod
Hi Tom, Yes those numbers are about what I got when setting up my Ormerod 2by jamesf - Ormerod
App jaws may be on to something. Is it possible there are axis compensation entries in configuration that should not be there? did you replace or change your configuration files with the firmware upgrades?by jamesf - Ormerod
Hi From my very limited slicing experience I have found one thing to help a lot with small pieces Slic3r has cooling control settings which can be activated. This has two effects on layers that are going to take less than 30 seconds to print 1. Increases fan speed ( not applicable to ormerod) 2. Slows the printing in proportion to the time the layer will take I found this to help a lot, evby jamesf - Ormerod
