Hi It would be interesting to see what Slicer software you use and why. I know that Slic3r is probably the mostly used software but it would be great to read about the others and your experiences concerning the other software. Thanks Vaughanby scubi - General

Thanks guys thats awesome, will take your advice. One thing, so J-head will work fine ? I have metal hotend but dont want to change it right now as I am learning and the J-head seems to be doing well. Checking if the J-head would work fine with ABS at 230c to 250c Thanks Vaughanby scubi - General
Hi I have just completed my Mendel90 and prining in PLA with great success. I was thinking of trying ABS, however I have been reading a large number of topics where guys are struggling to print in ABS. Would you say its very difficult to print in ABS and what tips do you recommend. My setup is J-Head at the moment with a heated bed. I would appreciate your comments with printing in ABS. Thanksby scubi - General

Hi I am building Mendel90 and looking for the STL files for Auto Bed Level using an Endstop. I am using Nopehead X Carriage. Has anyone created them that would attach to the Carriage. I have looked on Thingverse but can not seem to find any that would fit. Thanksby scubi - General
Hi Can you use 1.75 Filament with a 3mm J-Head hotend, if not is there a solution to this. Do I have to buy another Hotend. Thanksby scubi - General
Hi, Please can tell me what the " Manual Homing Switch locations " setting is for in Marlin. Building the Mendel90 , end stops are at right side for x axis , Z is at the top and the Y axis is in the front. All set as Max . I notice the setting on x,y and z are 0 . What I don't understand is that my end stops are at Max and that where my printer homes to the Max position. So Should the Z Manual Hby scubi - General
Hi Which controller Board do you recommend that is a step up from the Ramps 1.4 at a reasonable cost. If you building a another printer and wanted a better board. Whats your reasons for this board ? Thanksby scubi - General
Hi Olaf, Thank you for your reply, I will try that tonight when I get home. I was worried that there was something wrong with the Pods as they just kept turning without an end to the turn. Hopefully my Motors will move now and not just make a noise. Thanks again.by scubi - General
Hi Some of my motors are not moving, just making a noise. I suspect that the voltage is too low. When I turn the Turnpot on the stepper drivers ( Ramps 1.4 ) it seems that there is no beginning or end to the Turnpots. The help says turn left reduces the voltage & turn right increases, however the pots don't seems to have a beginning. Just keeps turn ?? Is this correct ? Thanksby scubi - General
Hi I am just checking, the Marlin firmware that is under Github \ Nopehead \ Marlin , is this the Latest & correct firmware or is there a better version. I building the Mendel90 ( Sturdy ) , using Ramps 1.4 Board Thanksby scubi - Mendel90
Hi Whats your opinion of the Core XY printers , are they difficult to setup and calibrate. Looks like the Core XY printer can give a better quality & speed print ? Are there build help/ Manuals easy available etc. Whats your thoughts. Thanksby scubi - General
Thanks Ralph I have a look at the Thermistors in Marlin and try determine which will fit into the hole of the E3D. Dont want to do any drilling. Thanksby scubi - Mendel90
Hi I have received my E3D hotend and I struggled to get the Thermistor & Protect Sleeve in to hole and landed up damaging the legs. Do you guys know of a alternative Thermistor I can use that I can use with Marlin. I don't want to do any drilling on my new E3D hotend. Also import another hotend into SA will be expensive and time consuming. I would appreciate your advice, Thanksby scubi - Mendel90
Thank you guys for the Tips and advise, much appreciate it. Enjoying getting into the software.by scubi - General
Hi Thanks Dave, I am busy playing around with it and watching the tutorials on you tube. It seems to be the one to start with. Need to get my mendel90 finished this weekend. Received my E3D hotend today which is awesome. Thanksby scubi - General
Hi If you are knew to 3D Printing & 3D design , would you recommend 123D design to create parts etc. I am not talking about sculpturing animals & people etc. As a starting point of creating objects. ( Beginner at 3D software ) Whats your recommendation ? Thanksby scubi - General
Hi Guys I need to ask a stupid question, see attached photo, what are these things and what are they used for ? Thanks Vaughanby scubi - General
Hi Guys I am building the Mendel90 and was thinking of buying the Mk3 Heated bed. It comes fully assembled with the thermistor. Whats your opinion on the PCB bed, Thanksby scubi - General
Hi Thanks for the reply guys, much appreciate it. Just don't want to damage my Ramps board. Thanks again.by scubi - Mendel90
Hi Guys Tried using a Multimeter to test polarity but can not get the Leds to light up. Tried also on the Leds legs themselves. 1. The Heated Bed has two Leds and a resistor. If it has two Leds does it make a difference ? 2. If I get the polarity wrong what will happen if i connect the bed up, to 12v or my Ramps Board ? Sorry I got the board second hand and removed the wires without taking notby scubi - Mendel90
Hi, thanks for the reply. OK I have abit of problem. The heated bed has as a Led on it. If I connect it the ribbon cable the wrong way round, will the only problem be is the led will not light up?by scubi - Mendel90
Hi Please can you help with my heated bed. 1. I can not see which side is postive or negative on my heated bed. ( Mk 2 ). Does it matter which wire goes to the positive or negative, Ramps board 1.4. 2. I want to test if the heated bed is working, can I connect it directly up to the power supply 12v and see if it gets warm , then switch off ? Thanks Vaughanby scubi - Mendel90
Thanks Nophead, appreciate it.by scubi - Mendel90
Hi Guys I am building the MDF Mendel90, do I connect the wires to the endstops as Open Or closed ? Which is the the default, open or closed for Marlin. I know you can change it in Marlin but what the default. Thanksby scubi - Mendel90
Hi Neil, Thanks for the reply, I understand now. Was worried I was missing something. I could imagine that the brass is softer so it moves better over the steel thread. Can not wait to get my Mendel90 up and running. Thanksby scubi - Mendel90
Hi I am building the Mendel90 and busy with adding the Threaded rod through the Idler Bracket and Motor bracket. Instruction says add one Brass M8 Nut to the threaded rod and insert into the Bracket. Is it correct that only ONE nut per threaded rod ? Will it not be too loose etc for the threaded rod. I see older versions had two nuts and a spring ? Also why a Brass Nut and not a steel nut ?
