I've unplugged the thermistor and the heated bed. When the thermistor is plugged in it reads temp correctly. The issue again is that I can't control the temp on the bed at all - it just keeps going up and up - on off setting it.. nothing works, but the thermistor reads it correctly I wanted to try printing without a bed but pronter is confused when I unplug the thermistor and bed about what tby bobby_rep - Reprappers
So when I turn on my prusa my heated bed starting turns on and starts heating out of control. I can't turn it off in pronter can change it, can do anything. You can feel that it's getting hotter and the thermistor reads the temperature fine so I can even see what it is in pronter. My reprap buddy says the my mosfet must be burnt out on my ramps. So I've disconnected and removed my bed. Until Iby bobby_rep - Reprappers
Thanks all. I'll try some of those steps and give it a go. Just further information what I did as a test was: 1. Disabled and removed the fan from D9. Ran a print. Hot end and bed temperatures were correct for the first later and subsequent layers 2. Re attached the fan and put it on D9. Ran a print. Hot end and bed temps were correct for the first layer. SUBSEQUENT layers though the hot end waby bobby_rep - General
Hi all, Using Marlin with slic3r on a prusa.... Switched to PLA recently If I print without a fan attached and cooling not enabled the heated bed does 85C for the first layer and 60C for subsequent layers just fine (as I have it set in slic3r) When I attach a fan (to D9 on my ramps) and enable cooling in Slic3r the first layer on the heated bed stays at 85C.When subsequent layers start thoughby bobby_rep - General
Hey Guys, I might have too much work to do tonight so I might not be able to make itby bobby_rep - Canada, Fraser Valley B.C. RUG
I should also be able to make Wed. See ya guys there.by bobby_rep - Canada, Fraser Valley B.C. RUG
Nudel do you not find a fan over the build draws heat from your heated bed? Do you use a heated bed. I've had to disable my fan until I can print a tilted fan holder so as not to blow on the bed and draw the heat. With a fan as is my bed can't get past 119C (printing abs on kaption/glass ontop of a bed)by bobby_rep - General
I'll be able to finally drop by this week for a bit as wellby bobby_rep - Canada, Fraser Valley B.C. RUG
Im printing with ABS but on glass and kapton on top of the glass with a Heated bed below. Need the bed up around 127 to get the glass up to the temp I need it to stick. I need a better thermal barrier as am sure Im losing lots of heat down under the bed. Using cardboard right now but the aluminum top plate still heats up a lot. I need to go hunt down some wool. Other thermal barrier suggestions?by bobby_rep - General
I've just hooked a fan up to my D9 on ramps and now my bed cant seem to get up past 120. If I unplug the fan or put it directly on the psu wires it seems fine. In slic3r cooling tab is there a way I can disable the fan while the hotend and bed heat up. I tried disable fan first N layers with N at 4 and set the min fan speed to 1% and max to 7% and resliced and loaded the file in pronterface. Butby bobby_rep - General
Cool thanks I might try that out as home depot is open later than alder and fastenalby bobby_rep - General
Thanks ECSuyu, but I better get my own..one of these days I'm just going to 'borrow' your printer. So Sublime 4 2" screws and nuts will fit in the nut traps? And yes those are first prints after 3-4 hours of false print starts... with ECSuyu on skype the whole time troubleshooting until 1:45ish AMby bobby_rep - General
Zombie Alligator... or crocodile? End of the print failed cause of some extruder slippage. But thanks so much to ECSuyu, Sublime and johnbiehler from the Fraservalley BC group for getting me this far. The Lower mainland BC Reprap group is awesome and helpful. Without them I would still be trying figure out the difference between 5/16 and 8MM threaded rods... Kapton was definitely the solutionby bobby_rep - General
Thanks Brad, I think I have my e-steps right... I think my problem is the kapton versus blue tape.. so glad I had the Canadian Tire 5$ scratch coupon so the tape only cost me 99 cents haha. Either I'll steal kapton from Eugene next week.. or I'll wait ill my 30mm wide roll comes in..I have a roll of the thin stuff.. if I get really desperate I'll lay it down one strip at a time... or 'con'vince tby bobby_rep - Canada, Fraser Valley B.C. Hey guys, Thanks for the tip Brad. I had a fan connected to stabilize my psu but it was a bit big. I have now mounted the fan this morning. Because it's a little big it's tilted up but it hits the black part of the jhead for sure. Not the tipt though. See the pic below.. let me know if it need adjusting in your guys opinion. The start and end g.codes for purging would be great Eugene.. I'll addby bobby_rep - Canada, Fraser Valley B.C. RUG
As an aside.. Here is my latest print attempt... Getting closer, but so much minor tweaking required... can't wait for spring break so I can devote some serious time to figuring out the issues..by bobby_rep - Canada, Fraser Valley B.C. RUG
I'm going to try and make it, but my students have finals this week so I may be bogged down in markingby bobby_rep - Canada, Fraser Valley B.C. RUG
Hey Guys, I probably wont be able to make it out either as I wont get off work till 8ish today. Hopefully by next meeting I'll have some prints to show you as my machine is coming along really nicely thanks to some hands on support from Eugene. Glad he lives so close haha Cheers, Bobbyby bobby_rep - Canada, Fraser Valley B.C. RUG
Don't think I can make that one but will try.by bobby_rep - Canada, Fraser Valley B.C. RUG

So true about cars. I see plenty on my daily hour commute lol... never had to get auto type parts myself so it was just neat to see a whole business/supplier world I didn't really know existed beforeby bobby_rep - Canada, Fraser Valley B.C. RUG
Thanks! I was thinking that too for the z-axis. I just wasnt sure how much the Step Angle makes a difference (if at all) as the nema 17's are 1.8 deg and these are 7.5 deg.by bobby_rep - Stepper Motors, Servo Motors, DC Motors
I salvaged a stepper motor from a hp laserjet 1020 printer that had broken. The motor specifications are on the second page of the pdf listed below or further down for a cut/paste of the info. My question is can I use this stepper, in combination with say 4 nema 17's or 4 other mix and match printer motors from other broken printers, to drive my prusa. I've done the vitamins and plastics staby bobby_rep - Stepper Motors, Servo Motors, DC Motors
Welcome to the group What are you using as a instructions for your cnc router? I want that to be my next project after I finish I get my first prusa up running and use it to build another... So project #3... Hope you can make the 11th... Cheers, Bobbyby bobby_rep - Canada, Fraser Valley B.C. RUG
Hey Rob thanks.. I finally found them at another fastenal near my house... fastenal has a lot of locations.. actually ever since I started my build I've realized how many auto parts shops there are around... They're everywhere. I honestly don't get how they stay in business with so much competition.by bobby_rep - Canada, Fraser Valley B.C. RUG
Thx Brad... I'll give them a ring and see if I can get some in.by bobby_rep - Canada, Fraser Valley B.C. RUG
I'm having a hell of a time finding these for my SAE prusa. Do they have to be 1 inch exactly or is 3/4 or 1 1/2 or 1 3/4 ok? Home Depot, Lowes Fastenal etc have these sizes but not the elusive 1 inch... II grabbed what I thought were the right ones.. but turns out they aren't machine screws... should took a nylock nut that I have for them with me as the screws I got are for drilling into wood orby bobby_rep - Canada, Fraser Valley B.C. Hey All, I should be good for the 11th as well at BP. -Bobbyby bobby_rep - Canada, Fraser Valley B.C. RUG
Thanks for the reply Brad. I can wait until Jan as it is christmas and am in no huge rush (unless I can sneak away from my wife and come grab them between holiday events) How much would you like for the parts? Would that include the printed parts for an extruder as well. I'm very much a newbie for 3d printing so I hope I can get some guidance about possible pitfalls Ill run into from the FV grouby bobby_rep - Canada, Fraser Valley B.C. RUG
