Hello, when I try to print the infill and perimeter are always disjoint at the same places. Please, does anyone know how get rid of the gaps? Has anyone experience something similar and what did you do about it? I read several posts here, it most probably looks like there is a backlash somewhere. The problem is, I don't see any backlash, I cannot move the carry by hand (it does not "wiggle"), tby Ecir Hana - Printing
Very helpful, thanks a lot for the explanation!!by Ecir Hana - Controllers
Ok, but if I have such a one small line, what do the steppers then do? Does the motherboard command them to run simultaneously 3 steps forward on X and 1 step back on Y? Whaf it the line has finer precision than one step of a stepper?by Ecir Hana - Controllers
Hello, not sure if I got the thread folder right, if not I apologize in advance. Please, does anyone know how does it work when Mendel (or a printer) gets a some 3d model (say, a cross-section in a shape of curve) and turns it into steppers motion? I mean, does it turn the curve into many tiny straight lines and then, according to the slope of such a line it command X-stepper to turn 3 teethesby Ecir Hana - Controllers
You are right, the g-code contained wrong temperature code. It works! (And thanks, CPhoenix-2)by Ecir Hana - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Hello, my Mendel is somewhat able to extrude a bit of PLA but the software (both Adrian's host and RepSnapper) report that the temperature is going down after a while. Naturally, the PLA stops to flow down the nozzle. Please, have anyone seen something like this?by Ecir Hana - Plastic Extruder Working Group
It seems that the PLA I was using was a bit weird. Now I'm using another type and it flows quite nicely and is very sticky. I have another problem but as it is not related specifically to PLA, I'll start another thread. Thanks a lot!by Ecir Hana - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Thanks all for the suggestion! I rebuilt the heater - I moved the thermistor all the way down (close to the nozzle), and I put the wire also a bit lower (away from the barrier). However, it exhibited similar behavior as before and when I tried to speed up the extruder stepper it teared off the barrier from the reprapped part, i.e. the glue bond broke. Right now I'm waiting for the glue to hardby Ecir Hana - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Hello, I'm using Adrian's geared extruder and PLA. From the videos I've seen melted PLA appears to be very fluid. The problem I have is that in my case the PLA is coming from nozzle very slowly and is already quite hard. I think the gears' speed is ok (perhaps a bit slow but not that slow) and when I heated the barrel even more (I think I even tried 220 C) is was more fluid. And this is the heaby Ecir Hana - Plastic Extruder Working Group
ensgrp, thanks a lot! It turns out, this is a bit embarrassing, I was was using default host software and there is this "extruder" tab. And I hit "extrude" button to test it and to see if it works but it stopped after a while. Well, the thing is, the field next to the button says, how long it will print during the test. So I just typed-in larger dumber and it prints longer. Sorry for the false aby Ecir Hana - Controllers
Just for the record: Z cable from endstop to controller had bad signal (blue) connection. Everything works for me, now!by Ecir Hana - Reprappers
I have similar problem. First, the motor just twitched so I tried to unplug one coil at a time. And yes, one of them had bad connection so I rewired it again and now the motor rotates. But only for a while, say a few second. The extruder controller's 4 LEDs blink, they blink too fast but it seems to me that when some LED is off some other is on, etc, sort of they blink in a synchronized way. Buby Ecir Hana - Controllers
I have the same problem. Please, does anyone know how to proceed?by Ecir Hana - Reprappers
Hello, just to check if I understand it correctly - when I "lace in the declavity in the idler holder" and put the M4 insert into opposite side - these two parts (rod and thread) stay there only if I put filament in-between. Is this correct? Because everytime I remove the filament the larger gear falls off. Shouldn't I glue those two parts so that they stay in-place?by Ecir Hana - General Mendel Topics
Just for the record (I don't know how to edit wiki): 8mm is too much, it is doable but you can save yourself a lot of trouble if you stick to 4 - 6 mm, as the wiki currently says.by Ecir Hana - General Mendel Topics
Just a quick one - could I use 8 mm MDF for all the thick sheets?by Ecir Hana - General Mendel Topics
Reading the specs, there it says that the belts need to be 5 mm wide. But I only seem to get 6 mm belts. Are those going to be ok or do I need to trim them down to 5 mm, as well?by Ecir Hana - General Mendel Topics
Hello, I'm reading the docs but I'm a bit confused over two simple things: - "Mendel-m4-assembly-data-sheet" says two different things about cap screws: first ("BOM"), that I will need 4 x "m3-capx25" and 1 x "m4-capx20" but later ("Fasteners...") it does not mentions them and includes them in "m3-capx20" and "m4x16-cap". Will I need those 4 + 1 special screws or is it possible to get away withby Ecir Hana - General Mendel Topics

I'm sorry I'm not sure if I quite follow... The needed torque for the extruder is a function of material being extruded and radius of the pinch wheel. That said 0.21 Nm might be just ok but what bothers me is something else: If I understand it correctly voltage, current and resistance are all related (Ohm's law). So if the motor driver outputs 12 V that is, for instance, 0.4 A * 30 ohm. Shouldnby Ecir Hana - Controllers
For instance, I found the following stepper: Nema 17, bipolar, 0.21 Nm, 0.4 A, 32 mH, 30 ohm Would it be suitable for Mendel?by Ecir Hana - Controllers
Hello, I read the steppers of Mendel should have at least 0.14 Nm of holding torque (1400 g.cm) and that the size of about Nema 17 or 14. But what about the other parameters? What about "related voltage", "current/phase", "resistance", ..? Are they important at all?by Ecir Hana - Controllers
Ok, I understand now. Thanks a lot!by Ecir Hana - General
Hello, I'm reading about the thermoplast extruder and there it says "Arduino- vs Sanguino-based" - what does it mean? I thought RepRap has two ATmegas - one on the morherboard (644) and the other one on the extruder controller (168). Also, IIRC I read somewhere that it is possible to use Arduino - but for what? For the motherboard? For a part of the motherboard? Thanks in advance!by Ecir Hana - General

(for the first time here!) Hello, please, how suitable is PLA for surface treatment? I mean, if I would like to make the surface smooth, is it possible e.g. to rub it with a sand-paper? Ecir Hanaby Ecir Hana - Plastic Extruder Working Group
